    Insane Mode- All the time?

Insane mode doesn’t provide “optimal battery temps”. It provides better temps but not optimal. I still had to precondition for 7 minutes to get optimal performance. Insane mode on its own is good but not truly optimal.

My YouTube user name is LearningFast for that very reason. I try to get the information out there as quickly and accurately as possible. It was really difficult to get the video down under 11 minutes with how much information I had to share. I literally said the information as fast as I...

2024 Highland Tesla Model 3 Performance Deep Dive

I disagree that there will be a Ludicrous mode but I agree that at least summer tires are a must for everything but straight line acceleration. The battery is absolutely maxed out in this car. There isn’t another KW to give with it if you can launch with 627 HP of metric Max Discharge. There...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

SOC is largely irrelevant with the new car. However, heat in the battery still matters. I ran 3 consecutive 11.0 1/4 mile passes with 66% SOC or less. However, that was with a cold battery because I had to slow the car down. I think you could run 11.0 1/4 miles with as low as 50% SOC if you put...

This car met and even exceeded my expectations. It truly is a fantastic car. I look for excuses to go for a drive now. My wife loves the fact that I will do every errand she wants now.

Hankook offers a summer version of the Hankook iON EVO tire. If you don’t need absolutely maximum efficiency like I do then I would get the summer version.

    Insane Mode- All the time?

Like Apprunner said. Insane mode is only meant for single 1/4 mile runs at a time. If I hot lapped in insane mode at the Dragstrip I would melt the car after a few consecutive passes. Track Mode could probably keep it going though.
  12. M

    Insane Mode- All the time?

It heats the battery but it never got above 110 degrees in Insane mode and often was slightly under 100 degrees F in Insane mode. I think it is meant to heat the battery when it is extremely cold out instead of heat the battery when it is already warm out. For absolute max power you have to...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

I agree with you that the non performance upgrades are significant on their own. However, there are some people who prioritize performance over everything else. For those people it may be harder to justify the upgrade. I really am struggling with the new turn signal buttons. I just can't use...

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

There could be many reasons why but here are a few I could think of. 1. Max HP is relevant in an ICE car because once you get out of 1st gear the car maintains close to max HP at full throttle throughout the other gears. A single speed EV doesn't maintain max HP at full tilt so maybe they are...

The new wheels and hub have the bore lip so the 18s and perhaps even 19s won't fit unless they have the same lip in the bore. Check that before you buy any wheels. I know that all of the T Sportline wheels have the bore lip machined in so they all work.

2024 Highland Tesla Model 3 Performance Deep Dive

I really am a big believer in switching to 18' wheels with the Hankook iON EVO AS tires if you need range like I do. It gives you the best of both worlds because you still have the 20" wheels and summer tires if you want to carve up some mountain roads or go to a Road Course track.

I still don’t know why they do that. It just doesn’t make any sense why they underrate it.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

The battery is the limiting factor now. Someone could get another 1 or 2 KW more than I had but that is about it. I might gut it and go back to the track in 2 weeks but I may have to wait for some cooler weather to really get a fast run in. Cooler motors with a hot battery would definitely get...

The biggest question would be to stick with their current car or upgrade to the new. They might be taking a major loss if they sell their current car. If the new car isn't much better then it may not be worth it to them. In the US the difference in acceleration is significant for sure. In the...

Just stating the facts about it. There is such a big difference between the two cars and yet they share the same model name. I can’t think of any other car that has such a huge discrepancy in performance yet has the same name as another car. It is worth talking about it so that people...

The issue is that the US based Model 3 Performance can do 0-60 mph in 2.9 without subtracting rollout. The MIC cars can only achieve that with rollout subtracted.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

~16% more rear max motor torque is the biggest performance difference for the MIC LG cars. Everything else is pretty much the same for straight line acceleration.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

My biggest takeaway is that a Hyundai Ioniq 5N will beat an LG 2024 Model 3 Performance for acceleration. The 5N will get foot stomped by a Panasonic 2024 Model 3 Performance in acceleration.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I honestly think the US car might be capable of 10.69 100% stock if everything is truly optimized. My start was extremely slow even on the 10.75 run. Look at the comparison below. My understanding is that the 2022 Model 3 performance below was using the LG battery with a newer motor than the US...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Slope certainly matters but I am 205 lbs so maybe the other driver is much lighter? In the end we already have confirmation that the new MIC Model 3 Performance is limited to a 406 KW Max Discharge value and the US car goes all the way to at least 461 KW. That alone is a gigantic difference that...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

MIC 1/4 mile with what he said was 97% SOC but unknown battery temp. This is severely disappointing. Second run is a US based car with the Panasonic battery. Stats are metric for both. MIC car wins off the line and then just completely falls apart after about 40 mph where peak HP is first reached.

Review: Hankook iON evo AS vs Pirelli AS+ Elect vs Michelin PS 4S vs Michelin PS AS 4

Dragy says that traction isn’t the issue except for perhaps with the new car at full tilt.

Review: Hankook iON evo AS vs Pirelli AS+ Elect vs Michelin PS 4S vs Michelin PS AS 4

The old cars aren’t traction limited in a straight line. These tires won’t slow the old car down in a straight line because of traction. However, they are heavier so that can cost you .01-.03 seconds on a 1/4 mile. The new Model 3 Performance can be traction limited with an optimized battery...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

    Can You Beat 73 Wh/mi?

That nuts. I put my 18” wheels and Hankook iON EVO AS tires back on the 2024 Model 3 Performance this morning and efficiency improved dramatically. This isn’t a loop style test but it is almost flat. I hope to get 350+ highway miles on a single charge with the 2024 Model 3 Performance when I...

56.0 lbs when I measured them in 2022. I had really lightweight tires at one point and I had my 18” wheels down to 44.4 lbs for wheel, tire, and TPMS sensor.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Surprisingly my 18” wheels and tires were barely lighter than the stock 20s even with the aero bits installed on the 20” wheels. 20” Stock front wheel with Aero Bits installed. 20” Rear with Aero Bits installed 18” TS5 wheel and 235/45/18 Hankook iON EVO AS tires.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Traction isn’t a factor. I did my best times with 235/45/18 efficiency all season tires. Those wider rear tires aren’t necessary for straight line acceleration. They are all for show in that respect.

No one has done sub 3.0 for 0-100 kph yet which is what I had originally said. They provided 0-60 mph times which are always quicker. This is the quickest 0-100 kph for the new 2024 MIC cars on Dragy. The graphs in that video look unusual too. They aren’t consistent like the graphs normally...
