Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Just got a reply back from GivEnergy re. my different panels on different strings plan - he confirmed there is no problem with that but he said a 4 panel string "...may struggle to reach the required 150V for the system to start generating". I had no idea there was a minimum! What would cause...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

The guy just came back to me and said I was right and there is no reason different strings can't have different panels. Now to persuade him that 545W panels are the future!

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

A solar installer tells me that my plan of 4 x 545W panels and 4 x 400W panels (as separate strings) won't work and all the panels have to be the same type/wattage. (although we could have been at cross purposes and he thought I wanted to put all the panels as one string) I'm not convinced of...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I'm not against this but I'm only working on estate agent photos/google maps currently. It seems a no-brainer that if £800 scaffolding is going up for a job, it make sense to put up as many panels as possible. This rotated view seems to indicate it would be possible but how would they be...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

The SMA website I mentioned earlier had a 4 min video showing a software solution in its inverter, SMA ShadeFix, that it claimed outperformed most hardware optimizers for shade management. It also refers to 'bypass diodes' and MPP. If I understand, then a string of panels' output is limited to...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Has anyone used the designer at SunnyDesignWeb? I found it useful to prove that rather than use the 8 x 390W panels I was quoted for, I could, in theory, bump up the max kWp for my roof by ~20% by squeezing in 4 x 545W and 4 x 405W panels. It let me create 2 zones and identify the obstacles...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

A quick search found this quote on homebuilding.co.uk:- And I saw the Viessman boiler thing in the garage - it was enormous and I think it had two expansion tanks hanging off it. homebuilding.co.uk also mentioned that the storage cylinder is typically 200-350l. So assuming its all working...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Is calculating a "base load" as simple as looking at the SMETS meter with no big appliances running? (Mine is ~380W rising to ~700W when the washer is running and ~3kW tp ~3.5kW when either the kettle or dryer is running)

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I've spent a few days going through every post in this thread. I've learnt more here than just about anywhere on the web (so thanks to all) and..... I still haven't a clue as to what I need! I'm moving back up north in a couple of months and looked at 4 houses, three of which have perfect...
