2017 Model 3 failed CCS upgrade

Forgot to add how I reversed the mod! I did exactly what you described: unplug Gen4 ECU and bundle of wires, plug in old ECU, and reinstalled software via service mode.

2017 Model 3 failed CCS upgrade

Hi all, a late update here due to other life things coming up, but here’s the final update: I did some troubleshooting directly with 2muchsun and was able to rule out some things. Using a known good bundle of wires, we were still getting the same error. We doubt that the problem is with the...

2017 Model 3 failed CCS upgrade

I'm running on software version 2022.20.7, and usually quick to update when new software is pushed. This theory makes a lot of sense. I'll see if I can muster up the skills from my MechE days to wire up a jumper to test it!

2017 Model 3 failed CCS upgrade

I retrofitted my 2017 LR Model 3 to enable CCS charging using the Gen4 charger ECU (1537264-00-B), bundle of wires (purchased on June 6th), and Tesla CCS adapter acquired via Harumio. Installation of ECU and bundle of wires was completed without a hitch. The next day, I was able to charge via...

Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

Another update: My 2017 Model 3 still says it’s CCS enabled after the retrofit, but will no longer charge with CCS chargers (L2 and Superchargers work). Order of events: 1) Upgraded hardware successfully (new ECU from Tesla, bundle of wires from Ebay, adapter from Harumio) 2) CCS charged...

Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

Well, I've charged it again since then (Supercharger and L2) and no more error! So I won't worry about it :)

Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

Update: I completed the installation last week on Wednesday with ECU from Tesla ($140) and a bundle of wires with crimps and some resistors (purchased from eBay listing). Tested L2 charging on Thursday, and was able to charge successfully. Tested CCS charging on Sunday with adapter from Harumio...

Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

I was able to submit a service request yesterday morning via the app, and pick up the ECU on the same day! I live in San Francisco, so I chose the soonest service date at a nearby service center (Berkeley) to get the ball rolling, and requested the Gen 4 ECU part number. A service rep called...
