Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I just want the front seats to retrofit into my 2023. Probably wishful thinking, though.

I finished my speaker swap project on my M3P over the weekend. Here's everything I swapped: Sub: Skar SDR-8 D4 Front dash speakers: FaitalPro 4FE35 in the corners, 4FE32 in the center Front door woofers: Dayton Audio SIG180 6.5" with RWAudio adapters Front door tweeters: Dayton Audio AN25 Rear...

    Homelink retrofit install failure

I agree, I feel like it won't be long before you cannot do a self retrofit and have Tesla fix the configuration. That's why I got mine ASAP.

    Homelink retrofit install failure

I've had the Homelink retrofit in our MY for a year now and love it, so I went ahead and purchased a new module off of eBay for my new M3 despite knowing it would likely fail and I'd have to hope that Tesla would fix it despite installing it myself. I made a mobile appointment, and when they...

Anyone tried to DIY install homelink?

Anybody on the current 2024x software successfully able to install and activate Homelink? I just received a brand new unit but see folks having issues with the current software version

It's honestly very easy. There are quite a few videos on Youtube showing how to remove the sub/amp. I turned off the main screen, just do a quick Google search on how to power down a Tesla screen and that's all you need to do in my experience. You don't have to do anything special with the...

I would say yes. It's quite obvious that the Skar extends deeper which alone is worth the 100 bucks and 30 minutes of time, at least to me. Beyond that, even on the stock amp I subjectively feel that the Skar hits a bit harder in general. But if nothing else, the low end extension is absolutely...

That looks great. The Metra adapter does not recess the factory screws enough and they interfere with mounting. I'll probably replace it if I ever go back in there for some reason.

Yes, I used the Metra 82-8606, however I don't really recommend it. I would get one from RW Audio or Amped Garage.

Great insight! I agree on the Skar and think it's very good for what it is, even on the stock amp. Can't wait to see how the Dayton Audio AN25 tweeters sound with the SIG180 door woofers.

Great post, thanks for sharing! I've been quite pleased with my Skar sub so far, even with the stock amp. Interesting findings on the Dayton Sig180, makes me wonder if I should reconsider prior to installing my Focal ISU 200. I have a set of Dayton Audio tweeters for the doors (AN25) that I got...

Aftermarker Sound Upgrade of 3 Front 4" speakers

If you’d be interested, I have Dayton Audios with brackets and harnesses available, long story short I got them with a package deal and I don’t need them as I got ISU200 with tweeters.

Thank you for the feedback, that sub must be insane! I have the same speakers ready to go in the dash. I wonder if doing the rear doors vs rear deck would be better, unless doing both.

Assuming you have premium audio in that case? Which speakers did you swap and what brand did you install? I was under the impression that changing the rears didn't help much

Swapped in the Skar yesterday along with some cheap, lightweight sound deadening in the sub area as well as the sub trunk (leftover from previous project). While I haven't had a ton of listening time yet, I can confidently recommend the swap, especially for under $100 invested. Output volume...

Thank you! I'm sure I'm going to end up wanting to add a dedicated amp to the Skar so that's what I ask. I just don't want to make it overly complicated if possible. Check out the Orella Acoustics kit, they mount their amp under the OEM sub/amp bracket.

I'm still planning on rolling with the Skar, but I did come across a very good deal on a Sundown SD4 8" D4. It's a shallow mount Neo magnet sub. I'm not super familiar with sub specs, but I was curious if that unit would be more or less efficient with the OEM amp compared to something lower end...

Awesome! I went ahead and ordered it last night, under $70 total, probably get it installed this weekend and see what happens. I figured I can always add an amp down the road if I'm unsatisfied. I'm planning to put some sound deadening behind the woofer area. I keep reminding myself that this...

I was just looking at that exact sub as an easy swap to my OEM sub. Hard to beat the price. I wish I knew if there would be a discernible difference without an amp upgrade (at least until I do decide to upgrade the amp)

Solved: Road Noise & Front Wind Noise

This morning my service center replaced the drivers side main body seal, adjusted the window and adjusted the door. Problem solved, thankfully. Car is much quieter now though I'll still be doing the first 3 things mentioned in this thread in order to make it even better.

Solved: Road Noise & Front Wind Noise

Before adding extra seals around my windows, I decided to schedule another service appointment. This time, the estimate says they will be replacing the whole seal on the drivers side. Fingers crossed that works. The shape is much less uniform than the passenger side, which is significantly...

Solved: Road Noise & Front Wind Noise

Quick update, I stuck a piece of foam behind that kinked portion of the seal but didn't really notice a different on my drive to work this morning, though maybe the foam I used is too soft to do anything. I'll leave it for now and try a better solution with weather stripping when it comes in...

Aftermarker Sound Upgrade of 3 Front 4" speakers

I stumbled across the Amped Garage center tweeter retrofit kit, so I'll be adding the Dayton Audio ND25FN-4 as a center tweeter along with my Faital Pros. I also unfortunately stumbled across a great deal on the Focal ISU 200 component kit to replace the front door woofers and tweeters...

Solved: Road Noise & Front Wind Noise

I’ve been experiencing more wind noise than expected on my drivers side door in my new M3P. The service advisor said it couldn’t the seal since it’s new, so he adjusted the window. Noise improved some but it’s still notably louder than the passenger side. Looking at the seal, there’s a pretty...

Solved: Road Noise & Front Wind Noise

@enemji Quick follow up question, apologies if I missed it in the post. Was one piece of the ceramic fiber insulation (1"x16"x48") enough to do both sides, or did you order more than that? Tagging @Adam3 as well since it seems you installed this also

Aftermarker Sound Upgrade of 3 Front 4" speakers

Got it, I do know of someone here that put the 4FE35’s in the corners and the 32 in the middle, so I’m going off of that. I’ll update here when I have a chance to install these myself, probably a couple weeks out. Thanks!

Aftermarker Sound Upgrade of 3 Front 4" speakers

After much deliberation, I decided to go with the FaitalPro 4FE35 for the edges and the 4FE32 in the middle. I managed to get the trio for about $100 from parts express. It's a bit easier to slide $100 by than what it would be for the ScanSpeaks, though I'm sure they're worth the money based on...

Aftermarker Sound Upgrade of 3 Front 4" speakers

I wasn't planning on rushing into this but I'm thinking I would rather take care of this before getting the windshield tint installed in order to avoid any mishaps. Aftermarker Sound Upgrade of 3 Front 4" speakers

Thanks for the great info! I may just go with the 4032's for cost effectiveness and confirmed fit, but also looking at the ScanSpeak's and FaitalPro's based on feedback above. I've personally never heard of either brand.

Aftermarker Sound Upgrade of 3 Front 4" speakers

I'm very pleased with the OEM premium system in my M3P but wouldn't mind a bit more punch in the midrange and higher, and it seems that based on everything here replacing 2 or 3 of the dash speakers can do the trick relatively easily. (I also love modding my cars) I have a couple of JL Audio...

Help me choose: M3P inventory vs. Highland?

I can certainly understand why one would go with the base Highland over the M3P. Seems like the ride quality and quietness is vastly improved, so if that's what you value most then it's a no-brainer. For me, I'm used to driving sports cars, so driving dynamics/speed/cool factor is worth more to...

Thank you, I am excited. As a long time sports car owner, I decided to go with the M3P over the base highland given my $40k budget, not only for the cool performance bits, but also the premium interior (mostly concerned with the stereo as an audio enthusiast). Once the MY Juniper is released...

Model Y Long Range - New Owner Thoughts

Interesting, I had heard of the M3 Plaid rumors but not the discontinuing of the MS until now. Seems like the MX could also be discontinued. I liked the M3 we rented, but just didn't love the road noise and there are a few luxuries I like with the MS. Obviously they've fixed some of that with...

Model Y Long Range - New Owner Thoughts

Little 10 month update: The Y continues to be great, and while it would have been nice to pay less, I don't regret the purchase. We currently have about 25k miles on it, insane! My wife drives it most of the time and she absolutely loves it. As much as she loved her RX350 we had previously, she...

    Ear pain/Pressure help

I installed the 5/16" vinyl tubing on my Dec built '23 MYLR, made a big difference. Was super easy to install, did it all in one shot. Sprayed lubricant in each of the little holes in the rubber rather than trying to lubricate the tube itself. Didn't seem to mess with the gaps or anything like...

    Ear pain/Pressure help

I have a December built Fremont Y and I would say there's a decent amount of 'buffeting' coming from the rear (like a low, bassy rumble when going over certain patches of road). I've got the 5/16 vinyl tubing to install this weekend, hoping that helps! I removed the cargo cover as it was more in...
