3 tips to significantly increase range in winter and message for Tesla

At what rate are you charging? Charging slow = little battery heating. Also, if you are preheatin the cabin at the same time, much of that power may be going there, not into the battery, leaving less to charge (and heat) the battery. I have original dual chargers that let me charge at 80A and...

3 tips to significantly increase range in winter and message for Tesla

This is a normal cabin heat ("climate") screen. The only thing new in it I noticed is the battery icon. It may only be an indicator of state (cold battery) and not of heating but I am hoping for something more - if it isn't already there it should be "soon" (the Tesla kind of "soon" ).

3 tips to significantly increase range in winter and message for Tesla

Yes, but it is still proportional to v squared per distance driven, because as you increase speed you reduce time to get there.

3 tips to significantly increase range in winter and message for Tesla

Well, look at the screenshot below. Now there is that battery icon in there that wasn't there for years - it is relatively new (I've seen if at least a few weeks now, maybe longer). *EDIT*: Note - the icon appears a little while after the heating is turned on, not immediately. Almost enough to...

3 tips to significantly increase range in winter and message for Tesla

Actually, that was wine talking. It isn't all true. You say "Energy lost in electrical resistance is proportional to power squared at constant voltage". There are multiple ways and places you can approach this. In a DC world the voltage would NOT remain constant. It would change and would be...

3 tips to significantly increase range in winter and message for Tesla

All true. But these are internal losses, not about the main power to move the car. If we get to this level of detail we'll never stop. These losses are not only nonlinear but also have a non-zero most efficient speed and other factors - if you go slower they can increase, in fact. So, if you...

3 tips to significantly increase range in winter and message for Tesla

Oh ... and range mode is useless from my experience. Accomplishes nothing but a colder cabin, which I can better achieve otherwise.

3 tips to significantly increase range in winter and message for Tesla

I'm a long time Model S owner but... Drag (force) is. But power to fight it is not - it is proportional to the cube of the velocity. However, because at that power you're traveling faster, when you divide that by velocity to figure out how much energy you need per distance you get back to the...

Suggestions for a Toronto-Montreal-Quebec City-PEI (and back) road trip?

I went to Gaspesie. It was great but our hopes of seeing a moose were not met with an actual sighting. Didn't expect so much gravel roads and climbs but Tesla did it... and gained 5 km on the way down :) Well, yes, I knew about that but my wife didn't have enough days off left, she had a tough...

An update Re CHAdeMO adapter.... FLO sent me an email: Hello ..., Just a word to inform you that our engineers had to do a lot of reverse engineering with regard to this issue but we believe the solution has been found. The fix was applied to a few 1st generation AddÉnergie DCFC’s last week...

Suggestions for a Toronto-Montreal-Quebec City-PEI (and back) road trip?

I seem to need help finding something in Charlottetown. I will arrive near empty and need to charge overnight for roadtrips around PEI and, at the end, before I leave. Right now I can see: Most reliable charger seems to be over at Stratford: Sheppard Drive Parking/Charging | Stratford, PE |...

Suggestions for a Toronto-Montreal-Quebec City-PEI (and back) road trip?

Thanks all! I was doing some planning and was initially thinking of something like shown on this map (was gathering data): Toronto-Quebec-PEI trip (public) Still not 100% set on this but getting there. Presently the plan is to skip the whales on the way from Quebec City towards PEI and use...

Purchased May 17, 2017. Tesla says they normally update firmware at the time of purchase. After finding that it didn't work with the Markham Civic Centre station, the firmware was updated again June 9 (I was told that they cannot check which version is in the adapter, they just blindly upload...

Suggestions for a Toronto-Montreal-Quebec City-PEI (and back) road trip?

OK... I picked up the phone and called FLO - used the phone and ticket numbers I got from them in the email. Here's what I learned / facts: They are (now) aware of four distinct cases (cars, owners, adapters) having this problem - I am one of them. Most do NOT have the problem. Four of us are...

Suggestions for a Toronto-Montreal-Quebec City-PEI (and back) road trip?

Well, I have the CHAdeMO adapter... I just had problems at 50% of the two stations I tried :) I was thinking of getting feedback here as to which stations are good / no good for Teslas... but I guess that isn't going to happen the way I hoped. Are you positive? This station appeared to be...

Suggestions for a Toronto-Montreal-Quebec City-PEI (and back) road trip?

Well... I am willing to try it out if there is anyone else. Both FLO and Tesla are aware. I did not pay attention to the brand/model of the charger. It *MAY* be a Nissan one, which is said to be no good for Tesla as far as I can read... If someone can recognize it from the pictures that could...

Suggestions for a Toronto-Montreal-Quebec City-PEI (and back) road trip?

Unfortunately, I am sure. I visited the Markham Civic Centre charger (Markham Civic Centre | Markham, ON | Electric Car Charging Station | PlugShare) three times and each time I made four or more attempts. Every one failed. FLO noticed and contacted me, there is even an ongoing ticket. Basically...

    Canadian CHAdeMO charging

It still shows a wrench icon in Plugshare. I am planning a trip from Toronto to PEI and back and this was one spot I considered but it is risky to rely on right now - not sure it would work with Teslas. Also, does anyone have any recommendations as to what to do/visit while charging there?

Suggestions for a Toronto-Montreal-Quebec City-PEI (and back) road trip?

Hi guys! I wasn't very active at all on TMC (I spent my time on Tesla's own forum a while ago) but I am a long time Tesla owner. I am planning a long road trip (~4500 km with side-trips) with my family this upcoming August (rough plan is to start Aug 4th afternoon). Roughly I'd like something...

"Model S for BlackBerry" disappeared from Blackberry world. Alternatives?

Sorry for not helping before. Get Snap first: Snap Google Play client for BlackBerry 10 updated to v2.0 | CrackBerry.com That will let you get any Android app directly from Google Play including Tesla's. I have both that one and the "Model S for BlackBerry".

Absolutely I am. Yes, the "D" makes me want to have it but still I love my car.

    Driving between Toronto and Windsor

Thanks! Yes, it could be doable non-stop but wind in the wrong direction or rain could spoil things. I also know that whenever went there before we always made a stop for kids to eat. The plan is to add a little buffer at the same time. And, yes, I can't rely on either one, as i'd be toast if...

    Driving between Toronto and Windsor

I will need to make a trip from Markham (GTA) to Lakeshore (near Windsor) to visit some friends. 376km (234mi) one way without diversions to charge (407, 401). Loaded - all seats and trunks will be full. I am in need of some 'fresh' suggestions. Thinking of stopping at London somewhere (not...

Thanks! Still thinking of having attractions planned/ready just in case, as I will be fully loaded... Driving Between Ottawa and Toronto

Hi all ... I read all ten pages of this and it is very useful (I have my S85 for about a month now). I may need to make this trip mid July (Toronto to Ottawa) for an extended weekend, staying there a few days, visiting Montreal while there. I think I'm at least "aware" of all the tricks and...

I see that most people are against subscription and I was the one closest to it. I don't prefer it either, but I'll explain the will to consider it. I work in different offices at different times (days). In many cases I am quite happy charging at home. That is the most convenient. However, I...

Just joined, filled the survey... I am new here, just got my Tesla a week ago... but re: I filled it, but it takes a simplistic view. I will charge at home. And at work. And I want to charge on the road itself when travelling. Not just in one place. As for the subscription, it depends where...
