Is now REALLY a good time to buy a new Tesla? [Jan 2023 / April 2023]

Got it so the rule of having up to 70% of the battery available to you means 231 mileyous of real world range on the MYLR vs 195 miles on the MY Std. Fairly significant drop off unless you just keep the car plugged in all the time.

Is now REALLY a good time to buy a new Tesla? [Jan 2023 / April 2023]

Do the 4680 batteries have charge issues where you need to maintain them between 20 to 80% or can you keep it at 100% charged? I find the real world usable range on my MYLR is much less than advertised because only 60% of the charge(200 miles) is available to me normally for battery preservation...

Is now REALLY a good time to buy a new Tesla? [Jan 2023 / April 2023]

Agreed but probably gives them flexibility to de-couple pricing in the future - raise MYLR prices while keeping standard prices flat. That or their pricing team is just inexperienced which I wouldn't be surprised about. I'm not sure the number of price cuts in reaction to demand is a feature...

Is now REALLY a good time to buy a new Tesla? [Jan 2023 / April 2023]

Looks like the best time to buy a Tesla these days are at the beginning of the quarter when they deplete their last quarter demand. The introduction of the standard AWD model Y is what they should've done in January rather than destroy the value of MYLR and MYP overnight for those buyers - would...

2023 Model Y no USS discussion, incl. Discussion of Tesla Vision Firmware

Just tested it. The front distance detection system is pretty useless compared to USS systems I’ve used in other cars. There’s such a large gap due to the camera blind spot in the front that a competent driver can eye ball the distance better. Maybe helpful to vision impaired drivers. The rear...

Is hope in sight for our USS-less cars?

Any idea how well this works in the front of the car? Anyone risked their car to try it out? I noticed the backing in worked well but there's a clear front blindspot on the Model Y at least that I'm not sure how they will address.

Is now REALLY a good time to buy a new Tesla? [Jan 2023 / April 2023]

I tend to agree about the looks of the ix (just Picked it as an example) but from a pricing perspective I think there’s a lot more price they can cut based on where other premium suvs land. Model Ys we’re at rock bottom for sure.

Is now REALLY a good time to buy a new Tesla? [Jan 2023 / April 2023]

There's probably another $10k price drop that's easily justifiable if demand is indeed softening at the high end of luxury (BMW iX MSRP is at $90k)

Red MYP delivery. Fremont build. Bad fit and paint. Thoughts?

Short of something falling off, they will say most comesetic issues are within spec. I took delivery at the Fremont factory and made sure my model y was free of all visible defects. They said a lot of defects were within spec when we went through them. The only reason they fixed it was this was...

Is enhanced autopilot (2022) worth it?

i tried the subscription after making the original post - decided it wasn’t worth it - the benefits were marginal and not worth what they were charging. Basic autopilot is generally good enough. Also, some of the decisions the car makes is highly questionable. The EAP feature set should really...

Another Direct Model X vs. Rivian Comparison: My Personal Experience

Good comparison. My casual observation is that Rivian currently occupies the Hummer H1 niche of EVs. It doesn't necessarily need to be a better car if it takes off due to distinctive styling and value proposition. However, the market for such a product is limited so their future Rivian R2 and...

    So much Tesla hate now

It’s deserved - Asshole drivers are everywhere but brand is definitely tainted these days between bad CEO press, the whole price cut and screwing customers, and persistent bad quality and customer service. Many of my friends who can afford teslas are avoiding it to not suppprt Elon Musk even...

Take this delivery or listen to Tesla SA's advice they will fix it?

Sorry that you had your time wasted but good job on rejecting. As an fyi, my rear window developed an issue that let in lots of rain water. Luckily I was able to dry the car out. However, My service appointment to fix it on feb 10 got moved to February 27 unilaterally by the service center...

Take this delivery or listen to Tesla SA's advice they will fix it?

At the end of the day, it’s the customers fault here most people overlook these issues and still buy the car. Tesla doesn’t care about the customer because their customers have low standards and overlook the problems. Until there’s meaningful competition that hits demand, they won’t care.

Take this delivery or listen to Tesla SA's advice they will fix it?

The SAs will say anything to get the sale. However, once you accept delivery, you’re going in the back of the line for the service center like everyone else. Make them fix all obvious issues before you take delivery. You will not get this attention afterwards.

2023 Model Y Unacceptable Build Quality and Issues

I took delivery at the Fremont factory and walked around looking for exterior defects for other cars while waiting for them to fix mine - A LOT, I don’t want to say most, but A LOT had all kinds of random small cosmetic defects yet they were “ready for delivery.” My guess a lot of people...

Is enhanced autopilot (2022) worth it?

Think they’re going to just do nothing realistically but the backlash is at least getting some good coverage. https://www.wsj.com/articles/teslas-big-price-cuts-fuel-owner-backlash-116750384 The sad thing is ford did the bare minimum but still look customer friendly because of teslas low bar.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/30/business/ford-mustang-mach-e-pricing/index.html How you properly segment the customer base and lower prices without major existing customer blow back. Also, note that they're doing something for Jan 1 and onward customers vs nothing.

Why is tesla Asking me to pick up the car ASAP?

Make sure you inspect the car before taking delivery and make sure it's acceptable to you. I inspected my car and found issues in Fremont at the factory - took two trips back to the factory to fix it. Their customer service is horrible so don't expect them to fix any of your issues in a timely...

Discussion: Model 3 and Y price drop Jan 2023 / April 2023 / Oct 2023 and All other Pricing Speculation going forward

My take on this is if you can only buy one SUV for example - you want to have the convenience of gas for longer range trips (e.g. roadtrip) and the benefits of electric day to day. I think it's an irrational anxiety at this point but it's there. I think the super chargers do make it more...

Yup - look at the back order and the mark ups for the Toyota rav 4 prime. All of that demand is based on range anxiety with electric charging.

Discussion: Model 3 and Y price drop Jan 2023 / April 2023 / Oct 2023 and All other Pricing Speculation going forward

I agree actually - which is why the best thing to do for those affected is to never buy from them again and for prospective buyers to avoid Tesla if they care about customer service and being treated well. Actions need to have consequences. You only have yourself to blame for enabling this type...

Discussion: Model 3 and Y price drop Jan 2023 / April 2023 / Oct 2023 and All other Pricing Speculation going forward

I don't think the Tesla fan boys and girls will agree and this will end in circular arguments. Nor do I think Tesla will care now that the stock price has recovered from the 120s - although it might be a good opportunity to buy some puts on the stock since there's so much volatility here just...

Is now REALLY a good time to buy a new Tesla? [Jan 2023 / April 2023]

Given the location of the sensors, don't expect it to perfectly replace USS. If you're a normal 50th percentile competent driver, you should be able to easily back into most spots without issues with the cameras. Where the issue is the front, with no cameras or any way to visualize that area...

Upset that Tesla screwed customers who took delivery in the last few months

Yeah so maybe they sell only to buyers who are looking for the cheapest possible price. But anyone who doesn't qualify or if/when subsidies go away - why would they trust Tesla's pricing ever again unless it goes down in a meaningful way. Cars right above the subsidy line doesn't seem to be...

Upset that Tesla screwed customers who took delivery in the last few months

That's a fair statement. However, that's a short-term benefit - longer-term, will customers outside of diehard fans ever trust Tesla again? If Tesla were to raise prices by say $5k or $7k in Q2, would anyone dare buy knowing it can tank any time and get burned?

Upset that Tesla screwed customers who took delivery in the last few months

It was mentioned here in one of these threads that they gave the customers who recently bought a refund for the difference. The appropriate time frame of that is a fair debate but nonetheless, customers who bought a day or two before was not left out to hang.

Model Y Not Worth the Price Now [Nov 2022]

Eh even if that’s true, way too much bs to deal with. My original point, So much for making the auto buying experience better, instead Tesla is just acting as one giant dishonest car dealership.

Model Y Not Worth the Price Now [Nov 2022]

spoken like someone who did not get screwed by the price drop. Tesla could have ripped the band aid and softened the blow to recent customers. They made their decision - it’ll be their one and only car purchase with me and many other buyers. I have yet to see anybody who got screwed by Tesla...

Model Y Not Worth the Price Now [Nov 2022]

Model Y Not Worth the Price Now [Nov 2022]

I don’t think Tesla has a monopoly on supply chain efficiencies in the automotive industry. A lot of what they’ve done is fairly common sense and just need ramp up - my guess is a lot of ice cars are already built this way - tesla just know how to market it well. As for the dealer network, I...

Model Y Not Worth the Price Now [Nov 2022]

I’m sure by the time he’s ready for his next car, many of these features will be standard. The technical gap isn’t much anymore and he has car play, which will is still better than teslas half hearted Apple Music app. Competition is great and I hope the innovation isn’t just on price

Discussion: Model 3 and Y price drop Jan 2023 / April 2023 / Oct 2023 and All other Pricing Speculation going forward

Good article although somewhat self serving to the marketing industry and I doubt it’ll convince the Tesla bros. The one main thing that’s missing is maybe they were able to improve their cost structure from before so there’s more margin. I think the rest of their points are very valid though.

Model Y Not Worth the Price Now [Nov 2022]

Discussion: Model 3 and Y price drop Jan 2023 / April 2023 / Oct 2023 and All other Pricing Speculation going forward

I appreciate your positivity but not sure resale value will follow. Tesla now has one of the oldest non-refreshed product lines in the EV world. They're puling the one lever they have to move inventory - price to a new more price sensitive customer segment. They will also flood the market with...

Model Y Not Worth the Price Now [Nov 2022]

Maybe, quality is a form of product differentiation. I think the main issue is that Tesla only has one lever that it can pull today - price. It might be a major competitive advantage but that was the same lever that the Detroit automakers tried to pull in the 1990s and early 2000s when customer...

Their fundamental assumption is we're all focused on money at the end of the day. In 3 to 5 years, if they are still the market leader by volume (who knows?) with the best product (will be debatable) at the cheapest possible price (maybe), you will forgive them for burning you for $10k and come...

My last car is 14 years old with 146k miles and counting although much slower now with the Model Y.
