It always is. That said, I'm now sold on the advantages of renting a familiar vehicle, especially one I can customize with my preferred settings in a few minutes. As long as the pricing is not wildly different than an ICE, I'll be looking for Tesla rentals when I travel from now on.

Tesla will permit FSD transfers once Tesla determines that it is financially beneficial for them to do so, likely as a marketing/brand loyalty incentive.

I believe it will eventually be permitted (with a transfer fee) as a marketing incentive. But not until Tesla actually starts seeing Tesla owners move to other brands in large numbers. That's not likely to happen until the rest of industry substantially ramps up capacity.

PF612 Mfg 11/22 no matrix

It seems to me like there are multiple assemble lines in Fremont. Each line gets a batch/range of VIN numbers of a few/several thousand. So new vehicles coming out of Fremont on a given day/week can have wildly different VINs depending on the line your vehicle was produced on.
