Methods to open frunk while approaching a sleeping car

Apple Watch has a complication for the frunk (Watchla app). Works immediately but does ask for confirmation.

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

They all use Bluetooth for the audio channel so they are as good/bad as you have experienced with that. None of them use CarPlay audio. My opinion is Tesla Bluetooth is actually pretty good for calls and music.

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

They all have their strengths. Ownice is very stable, uses the large center display - T2C is faster - Teslasy has no start up wait but screen is obviously smaller.

Lol, since I have amassed a collection of CarPlay devices my wife is strongly encouraging me to sell some of them. I have T2C, Ownice and the Teslasy CarPlay display - PM if interested, definitely priced to sell!

What features do you wish the Model Y came with (Dec 2022/Jan 2023) Wishlist

Blind spot warnings that require turn signals/indicators to be already engaged to work is one step too late. There are occasions where people need to merge/change lanes quickly and the ability to already be aware there is a vehicle right next to me in my blind spot (aka situational awareness)...

Good news and bad news. Bad is they released a software update that broke Bluetooth disconnect so the unit stayed connected after you leave and lock the car. Good news is they have been reasonably responsive and sent me a private fix for the issue before the next public release and indicated...

    2023 Holiday Update Imminent

Apple Podcasts - lots of attention to High Fidelity Park Assist in this update but I think the podcasts app is also a big deal for people who have struggled with Spotify and TuneIn and their inconsistent compatibility with various podcasts plus their awful user experience. If you have an...

So the build/firmware report slightly differently from iPhone browser (192.168.3.1) versus Tesla browser (tespush.com) but they both include “23 12 09” and I installed this Dec 9th or 10th and it has stopped blocking due to the privacy warning. So I think your “23 07 13” might be out of date...

    2023 Holiday Update

Painted parking lines in the visualization. That’s all I am asking for. The number of times I reverse into a space and get out to realize the car is wonky. I suspect the new parking view is just the current one with the added ability to rotate the 3D view with your finger. Looks like the danger...

Wood colored tape. But really I promise you you won’t notice it when you’re in the car anyway. I am 2+ weeks in and forgot all about it and I’m usually super OCD about stuff like that.

I watched your video - you need to start driving (~10mph) before it appears, icon is not visible when you are stationary.
  15. Mandingo

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

Thats kind of weird that you don’t have a CarPlay icon on the main screen once you start driving - it should be a 3 way carousel with CarPlay, Android Auto and Settings that appears once you’re driving above ~10mph. Does the right steering scroll wheel do anything? If not first try a reboot...

Few updates on my review of the Teslasy screen. There is now the first update for the screen on their site, not had a chance to try it properly but it appears to improve performance and refresh the screen more smoothly. There are now instructions for the screen on that page too - I learned you...

I'll keep the tape! I use Apple Maps exclusively (they're very good these days and 90% of the reason I am looking for CarPlay) and do all my destination input using Siri so it hasn't come up yet but I am thinking I would just do it on my iPhone if it's more complicated than that and requires...

OK, the Teslasy CarPlay mini-dash has arrived and I would cautiously say that after an hour of testing ... it's excellent. I haven't permanently stuck it down since I'm still experimenting with exact position (hence blue temporary tape and loose wires) but overall it appears to work as...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

Yeah. I have contacted CarLinkit about the dropouts and they continue to suggest checking the box that says “Remain connected while in drive”. Duh. I use Ownice exclusively now which doesn’t have any dropouts.

Ok here's another mini-dash which *appears* to be: Easier to install (one wire to the rear, no dash disassembly) Combined CarPlay/AA display with speed/range etc. All audio routed to car bluetooth (no tinny speaker) Looks quite stylish I have ordered one (there is a discount code) and I'll...

One more trick for those who have wired into the tow harness - if you power on the climate from the phone app (perhaps to pre-heat the car now winter is almost here) it also powers up the harness circuit so when you get in the car CarPlay is already running eliminating the 30 second wait.

I’ve been trying to rely on the Tesla built-in systems (with the latest update 2023.26.7 and Premium Connectivity) recently and I thought I’d share a comparison with the CarPlay streaming systems such as T2C and Ownice. Most people are familiar with the Tesla systems but I hope this comparison...

I believe most (all?) cars have the connector but I read somewhere that the power is disabled to the connector if you didn’t specify the hitch package at the start. So having the connector isn’t enough - you need the software switch too and I don’t think it’s (easily) hackable.

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

I ran the pigtail wires outside to connect to the USB adapter which is held on by Velcro in the footwell where I can reach it. I switch between Ownice and T2C by plugging them in.

Yeah I have it. Not much change - I think they removed the middle setting for compatibility - now just high and low.

Coming a bit late to this. Most of these questions have been answered but I’ll expand on #3 - I have the unit connected to a switched 12v circuit that powers up and down with my presence in the car. It powers up when I open the door and sit down and powers off when I exit the car (disconnects...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

Ok. I have always had my hotspot disabled and got it to work, though *only* CarPlay worked, the browser and Tesla couldn’t load anything else but I didn’t care. I didn’t enter any information in the hotspot fields (name and password) so I wonder if that’s why it didn’t try?
  31. Mandingo

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

CarPlay WiFi is hidden. If you see CarPlay working it is connected to WiFi although it doesn’t show in the list of networks. Hotspot isn’t required, CarPlay gets its internet from the iPhone cellular connection.
  32. Mandingo

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

That theory didn’t hold up - I got a drop out today with the phone not charging - in fact it was within first 3 minutes of my drive. The ODM/Carlinkit folks need to find and fix this bug, it’s clearly happening to multiple people.
  33. Mandingo

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

It should work, I have it wired to the tow harness myself and it has enough juice to power both 5v USB sockets at the same time. I also have a radar detector on the 12v side of the harness so that’s three devices getting power at once. The led is very bright so you get free footwell blue...

T2C Dropouts - i think i have tracked down the cause of the screen dropout (CarPlay screen disappears, display shows black Settings screen for ~10 seconds) - it appears to be related to the iPhone overheating on the wireless charger. When the phone gets warm/hot which it often does on the Tesla...

Yes, it’s possible for the WiFi network to automatically start and the browser to automatically connect. The only “inconvenience” is it takes approximately 30 seconds to start. I posted a video on this thread of the startup sequence Post #629.

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

Ownice T3 One extra tip I have which would apply to both T2C and Ownice is an easy way to switch on Tesla Wi-Fi if you have started driving before it has connected to your device. A quick button press to switch into Park for 1-2 seconds re-enables Wi-Fi and will quickly establish a connection...

Anyone would be kind enough to recommend a swivel for the screen?

I saw Tesla has added an electric screen swivel to the Model S so I just added a screen rotation bracket to my car (not electric!) and it makes things a lot more comfortable and the driving position more "cockpit like". CarPlay screen interaction is more natural with it rotated to face the...

Ownice no Wi-Fi - I ran into this earlier too, I pinged Ownice a week ago and never heard back.
  44. Mandingo

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

So I did the update for the Ownice and now it won’t transmit a Wi-Fi network that the iPhone or car recognizes. When I first went into settings it had defaulted to “China” as the region so I set it to “US” and now it won’t connect at all so I can’t change the settings. Bluetooth connects ok but...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

Yep, I wrote a post on exactly this. However I don't think we know who the ODM is so they have to a) know there's an issue and b) pressure the ODM to issue a new fix in the SDK.
  46. Mandingo

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

If you and the other folks can submit a bug report to CarLinkit and Ownice with your version number they can hopefully get started on the fix. The fact that Tesla Android still works demonstrates there are workarounds.
  47. Mandingo

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

Yes, I think the hotspot and premium connectivity are both redundant once CarPlay is running. I don’t use either. If you leave the browser running it will often restart on the right screen (see my video Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices) but sometimes it doesn’t - haven’t quite...
