Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

I just want to report that despite the fact that my Ownice T3 was working flawlessly when I first got it, it recently started acting up. I started getting momentarily disconnections between the phone and the device. I see the Ownice start page for a second or two then it goes back to Carplay...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

Can you tell us which Tesla firmware version you are on?

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

Its just to supply connectivity to your car, not the Carplay apps. If you don't set it up, your Tesla is "off the grid", which is not the end of the world but might come in handy if let's say you want to momentarily use your browser to access the web then go back to Carplay.

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

I usually just leave it on all the time but the Ownice (or any other device I want to use) won't connect automatically unless i go on the Personnal Hotspot section in the phone settings (even if it was already on). Kind of a weird iPhone behaviour...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

One thing I just realized, the Ownice device connects to the phone hotspot through wifi, but I think the Carlinkit T2C is doing so through bluetooth because I don't remember having to enter my hotspot password for it to work. This could explain (partially) why I was having problems with...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

So today I tested the Ownice T3 in hotspot mode and it just worked as perfectly as the "off the grid" mode. Furthermore, I do not experience the connection problems when making Facetime Audio calls. So to sum it up, the Ownice T3 and Carlinkit T2C are two very similar devices but it seems...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

So today I tested it on a couple of long drives and it still worked flawlessly. No hicups or disconnections. Next I will test the hotspot mode and then I will test drive the T1 for a couple of days to see if it works as well.

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

So far I'm using it off the grid. Since I rely on Waze for driving directions and use the Spotify app through Carplay for music, I don't feel the need to have the car connected to the internet on its own. But I will definitely test it with the hotspot feature turned on eventually just to see...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

Well, today I road tested the T3 on many short drives and every time I'm happy to report that it reconnected flawlessly, as long as I turned the Tesla wifi back on each time I was departing of course. It looks promising! I have yet to find a flaw in this product. Tomorrow I will test it on a...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

Yes I did that, as it's the only way to get it to play full screen but still the videos would not quite use the full width of the browser window. There was an annoying black margin on each side (and top/bottom too but that's to be expected since the window is almost square).

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

@Mandingo What I meant by the initial connection was the very first time I set it up. For some reason when I first configured the T2C it took a bit of fiddling around before I actually got to see the Carplay home screen appear. With the T1 as soon as I paired the phone and the car to the...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

Well, my Ownice device was supposed to arrive on May 17th but surprise! I got it today! So here's my first impression: I actually got two of them because I mistakenly ordered the T1 at first when I actually wanted the T3 so I placed a second order for the T3 figuring I could easily sell the...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

@ricksli : From what I understand, the Ownice device is capable of using your phone's hotspot, but you don't have that feature turned on, correct?

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

For those wondering what the difference between the Ownice T1 & T3 here is what the company had to say: "T1 is cheaper, without brand logo, with ordinary craftsmanship, one power cord, and normal battery life T3 has stronger heat dissipation, comes with an Ownice brand gift box, two power...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

Hello everyone, So I bought the Carlinkit T2C device a couple a weeks ago and have been using it on a 2023 Model X since then. I must say that despite the couple of annoyances that came with it I am mostly satisfied and very happy to finally have Carplay in my Tesla. The biggest problems I...
