Model Y - Frunk automatic opener

There are so, so many horror stories out there of these things malfunctioning; a lot of them fail, and (best case) your frunk is stuck closed, or (worst case I saw) the frunk flies open while driving. I would love to have a power frunk -- probably the feature I want most other than cooled seats...

Paint flaws on brand new March 2024 Model Y, Deep Blue Metallic color

This is exactly how my blue Model Y is. Worse, it has underspray on the *outside* of the trunk lid, and a blotch spot on the rear fender. The paint quality is absolute crap. I didn't bother to ask them to fix it because I was afraid they'd make it worse.

FSD 12 perspective from a previous skeptic

I’m same as you (same timeline too with the v11 trial last August, on my 2023 MYP), hated FSD’s behavior when I tried it last year…tried the new v12 yesterday and it was still terrible. Cannot handle roundabouts gracefully (there are roundabouts everywhere here), chose the wrong lane multiple...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I last tried FSD in the September/October/November timeframe last year (2023), when I had it on free trial after my August purchase. Wasn’t impressed. It did a lot of dumb things and I was more nervous with it driving. Got in my car today, saw the free trial of the new v12 version…decided to...

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

LOL I know you didn’t mean it this way but it still sometimes strikes me as wild how quickly we’ve gotten used to a family crossover doing 0-60 in under 4 seconds, to the point that you are making distinctions about whether or not it was measured with rollout. Not that long ago, for anything...

    Snippiness 2.0

You really are coming off as a fanboy who can’t have a legitimate conversation. I’m not arguing with you about Rivian’s system, I have never tried it. It might be totally useless. But Tesla’s doesn’t really work any better than most other systems in places like construction zones, that’s my...

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

What does the free/included version of AP do other than follow lanes and auto-adjust speed to the car in front? Literally almost every car does that now. My wife’s 2021 Kia Telluride does it. Full Self Driving, aside from being heinously expensive, is still very, very beta. I hated using it...

    Interior Ambient Lighting by Hansshow

Nice work. Can you take some more close-up pictures with the lights off, so we can see the quality of the integration of the lights into the trim pieces?

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

I watched some of the walkthrough videos from car YouTubers…overall looks really nice. Only two design choices I can see that I disagree with are that I think they could have taken this as an opportunity to evolve the headlights/front end a bit more, but my real issue is the charge port. Rear...

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

As did I. I'm willing to throw $100 at them if it helps them make it to 2026, directly or by show of support for investors. It's a small risk.

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

I knew they were burning cash really fast but this really shows it well. It illustrates my concern…can they survive two more years to get the R2 to market? I think the R2 is going to be a really good vehicle — and the style of it will probably be very appealing in this market that loves Broncos...

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

I really want Rivian to succeed. The R2 is a must-win for them. They must nail it, and they must survive long enough to get it into the hands of customers. It is literally do or die on the R2. I'd be surprised if the $47k version does 0-60 in 3 seconds (I bet that stat is for a higher end...

Model Y Performance 21" Tires - Larger, More Comfortable Fitment Details and Experience - Michelin AS4's (With Photos)

Tax credit 2023 [The tax credit discussion thread]

Like Alonzo, I enter them as a summary from the 1099. IRS doesn't care about you entering the details of each individual transaction...unless you get audited, I presume. I also like FreeTaxUSA — I switched to them from Intuit TurboTax years ago. Don't know well it handles small business income...

Tax credit 2023 [The tax credit discussion thread]

Just as a data point, I had no issues filing my return. About three weeks ago I logged into my Tesla account and requested they generate that document (thanks to the directions on this forum). That was not super obvious though, I’m sure there will be plenty of people who don’t know how to go to...

Picture of your Model Y - Right Now!

LOL...I mean yeah, colored seat belts would be great and all, but I just laugh for me that's pretty far down the list of things I think it would be nice to have options on. How about... More exterior colors (lighter/brighter blue, silver, some kind of green...) More interior colors (saddle...

Vendor Official Atomic Wheels thread for Model Y

Wow, looking good...that's the exact style I'm considering. But those are 20s with larger than normal tires on them, right? I think 255/40 R 20 would be the closest diameter for 20" to the 255/35 R 21 stock, so you upsized to the 255/45? Got any wider shots?

2021 MYP Uberturbine 21" to 20" Aftermarket Wheels... 30 pound weight savings

I know this is an old thread but I'm looking to do this exact swap (from an MYP with 21" Uberturbines to a lighter 20") and I would love to hear more people's opinions on the ride quality and handling. Model Y Performance 21" Tires - Larger, More Comfortable Fitment Details and Experience - Michelin AS4's (With Photos)

OK, but can you tell us which sizes you tried? There are a lot of sizes being discussed here. While the larger tires will certainly weigh more, and I believe that the handling doesn't feel as sharp, I have a hard time believing that the ride is worse. A much larger sidewall is almost certainly...

Is the new Macan EV a MY killer?

Oh well sure, if you’re comparing them to a 911 that makes sense LOL. I thought you were comparing them against, you know, other SUVs…in which case I think they’re amazing.

Is the new Macan EV a MY killer?

LOL what? Have you actually driven those vehicles? The way they drive is incredible…the Macan barely feels like an SUV it handles so well, and the Cayenne, while it’s definitely big, still handles and drives so well it’s just fun. I almost bought a Cayenne GTS a couple of years ago and I was...

Cheaper to buy a new Model Y?

Juniper is largely expected to show up at some point this year, but it could stretch into early next year. There’s a big thread on it around here somewhere. Is the new Macan EV a MY killer?

I’m sure it will be $30k better. Porsche engineering and build quality is legit. You’re not “just” paying for the name, it’s the high level of product you’re getting for that name (I’m saying there’s legitimacy there, unlike, say…Alfa or Maserati these days, where you ARE mostly paying for the...

New Car with Black Paint, are automatic car washes that bad?

I don’t take my cars through car washes because I am quite sensitive about the way the paint looks. After a year or two of regular car washes, a dark paint will be swirl city. I see this all the time and other peoples cars when the sun hits it. But… As you said you’re not that concerned with...

Resurrecting this summary table based on comments I've been reading. Added Con #3 to the Supersize option based on what a couple of people have said. I'm really getting sick of my MYP's harsh ride, even with the stocks underinflated, but I'm very undecided about going with the Upsize or...

@Noflash Looks great. Are those both wrapped in a matte PPF? Really love how the blue looks. I love keeping my cars nice, but...damn that's a lot of $$! My MYP's paint is so sh!tty though I'm seriously thinking about it.

    Vendor Official Tessie app talk

It's definitely less than 90 seconds but I haven't timed it...probably somewhere in the realm of 20-30 seconds. Vendor Official Tessie app talk

James, I've been using Tessie since August and it's been great. My main use case is starting the climate control from my watch, but I also dive into the data analytics on occasion. Lately (I can't say exactly when), waking the car up via the watch app has been extremely unreliable — I'd say it...

Need help deciding which Tesla to sell

Yeah..."I'm already underwater on two cars, but I bought another one at a price I couldn't pass up" translates to "salesmen can see me coming from miles away." Model Y on the track

Well in that case I’m glad you’re having fun! I haven’t seen a Model Y at any of our events yet, but there have been a couple M3Ps and it’s just hilarious to watch them. They‘re so fast, and one guy is so aggressive with his braking that he can make the front end scrape the ground a touch. At...

    Snow, Ice, and regenerative braking

This is definitely the truth. The last few days are the first I’ve been out in really crappy conditions in my Tesla, and man the wipers are pathetic. I thought I couldn’t hate them any more just because of how stupid the auto-wipers are, but now when I actually need them — when other cars are...

    Model Y on the track

This has been an interesting read, but I can’t help but wonder what you guys are experiencing that I’m not. I’ve never taken my MYP on a track, but I have done AutoX for years with a friend’s Focus ST, and prior to the MYP I owned cars like a BMW 340i M-Sport, a VW GTI Performance Pack, etc...

    Windshield Wipers

I’ve only had my car since August. The windshield wipers got significantly dumber with one of the fall updates — like everyone else here, they now wipe randomly under a clear sunny sky, and they are unreliable in the wet. Now I have to leave them off, and then when it rains tap the washer button...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Took a roadtrip last week and tried to extensively use FSD. Still on my free trial. I'm on FSD Beta v11.4.7.3. I had tried out an earlier version a couple of months ago and did not like it. My experience: it’s still a disaster. I had to cancel it so often… riding too close to the center line on...

Ambient Lighting that Integrates with Model Y like the Highland Refresh?

That does look good. I watched their full install video, it looks fairly clean in daylight (always the big problem with these kits, do they look like crap during the day). Probably the best one I've seen. I agree that's not ideal but it looks a lot better than the alternative. With the way the...

Poll: When will FSD V12 be in wide release?

You're right...I can't edit my original post, I feel like an idiot, but I'm on v11. I got my wires crossed and thought a big update I got recently put it on v12 but I was wrong. Anyway...v11 sucks :P Go on, laugh.

Poll: When will FSD V12 be in wide release?

LOL if my experience with v12 is any indication, they’d better not release it for a long time yet. It’s a disaster. I still have the free trial so I’m trying it out as much as possible. I had to cancel it so often on a roadtrip last week… riding too close to the center line on a 2-lane state...

Hannshow Model Y Frunk opener - V5 question

The hood into the windshield thing I've only seen one confirmed instance of. The far more common issue (and why I've not installed one of these) is the situation where the unit malfunctions (because of water intrusion or whatever root cause) and then you can't get into your frunk at all, and...

MY 2024 Refresh - Project Juniper?

You ordered accessories before you even ordered a car? Not only that, but a car that hasn't even been announced? Why? 2022 Model Y One Year Review

#1 seems kind of pointless, TBH. Just someone trying to invent a problem to take money. Unless you're driving around with your wiper fluid cap off, or purposely pouring gunky wiper fluid in, I don't see how debris could ever get in there. Haven't seen #2 before. Update after 1 month and change...

What have you hit with your rear hatch recently?

I haven't actually hit anything with it yet, but I'm terrified I'm going to tap the wrong icon in the app at some point and open the hatch while it's in the garage, with the garage door shut — meaning it will probably bash into the metal structure on the back of my garage door. The car is parked...

Emergency Door Release - can I try it?

I've had more than one passenger "try" the emergency door release their first time in the car, because for some reason they decided that was the way to open the door instead of the clearly marked button on the handle. So yes, it's fine. It's not going to damage anything if you do it once or twice.
