Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Same! (Well, actually owner of 3 since 2020 (currently 2). Sold all my TSLA shares this morning. Fan of the company but believe I can find a better place to invest than the stock.

    057 Technology

I suspect you are correct; the business plan was not sustainable, and the company ran out of funds. If another company bought the assets, they're likely not going to stand behind the previous company's commitments/ warranty plans, and customers are screwed... A painful experience for all those...

2015 85D 237k miles, warranty about to expire. Advice on service appointment

That is really great - 30 mile range lost over 8 years? Incredible... Was it pretty reliable for you over the years, or was it starting to nickel and dime you with repairs? I think you still could get $15 to $20k for the car, which might make more sense than hanging onto it. But it's so...

    Charging history and percentages

Yep, pretty close, I'm at about 10% degradation... it's been a great car and I'm hoping to get many more miles out of it! Marty

    Charging history and percentages

Hi Steve, how long is your commute? That sounds like about the cheapest possible way you could have a daily drive like that back and forth to work, if your maintenance costs have been reasonable. (Reason I'm asking: I have a 2014 S 85 with 135k miles, and would love to keep it rolling as long...

    Insurance

Phew! That is one expensive paint job alright... Someone made good money on that for sure. Methinks the USAA adjusters allowed some generous pricing there. I am part owner and CEO of a manufacturing plant that has a paint booth, so I know a little about what paint jobs cost... although we've...

    Insurance

USAA is great; wish I were eligible; some of my kids are :) Clark Howard said they'd seen more complaints recently with USAA Insurance, but overall they are always rated number 1 or 2 in the nation...

    Insurance

If you are a Costco member, their home/auto insurance program through American Family Insurance has excellent rates. We pay $800 for 6 months for 5 cars, including my Model S, with good coverage including collision (Tesla on its own is $200 for 6 months). Don't think it's available in...

    2012 Model S Signature Cars

Hi Sig72, cool! How much did you pay total for the new battery pack? I've got a 2014 S 85 and do wonder what I would do if I had to replace the battery... have mentally put aside the funds since it's such a great car!

Questions about purchasing my first Tesla

You even got the rear facing seats - cool! Did you get the free unlimited supercharging? I would be officially jealous :)

Questions about purchasing my first Tesla

Love it! That is about 10 wh/mile lower than I've been able to get on most trips... must have been warm?

    All discussion of Rivian Automotive

PS - forgot to ask - what were the multiple money pits at Tesla in the beginning? (genuine question, I can't recall what these were if you're not referring to the cars themselves and the supercharging network...)

    All discussion of Rivian Automotive

"They will only spend the money if they have it..." True! They've had a TON of investors money and have blown a TON of it... Based on their massive losses per vehicle built, I don't think they're going to be around in 2030, let alone 2050. But it's easy to be a naysayer (which I'm being about...

    All discussion of Rivian Automotive

Tesla's "money pit" of establishing the supercharger network has made them a lot of money over the last 10 years, and has been a substantial differentiator in the market as a whole. Rivian has multiple money pits, including their charging network, that may sink them in the end. I hope not...

    Used Model S Repairs/Service History

Some great advice from blodg1! If you can afford to set aside some cash for potentially big repairs (especially the HV battery), you should be OK. I bought my 2014 Model S with 135k miles quite recently, after selling a similar vintage car for $10k more during the pandemic. I say go for it...

2013 Model S started throwing multiple errors

Wow! happy for you... that's awesome. I'm driving an older "S" as well, and hope to keep it going as long as possible!!! love the car.

surprising indeed! I didn't even know they had their own charging network... another money pit!!

Thinking of S LR to replace M3P

I'd say "Go for it!" Very different cars; if you've driven the S and liked it, you shouldn't have any big surprises down the road. I think the S is far classier and better looking than the 3, also much less common.

    Service Required - GTW-W021

Glad it got solved, thanks for posting the resolution! What year is your "S?" I bought an older (2014) S85 a few months ago; got a screaming deal, but I'm a bit worried about these kinds of things popping up. At least you weren't stranded by the fault!

What a crazy night! First highland, then model S and X drop to the cheapest I’ve seen yet with free paint colors!

There's a 8 minute video review from British youtube channel Carwow; the host demonstrates the new horn which is "now in the center of the steering wheel..." around the 2 minute mark:

    US supercharging cost decrease?

An easier comparison might be cost per mile? For example on a 200 mile round trip: my gas car gets about 25 mpg, so it uses 8 gallons in this example, at $4.50 per gallon right now in Washington state = $36, or $0.18 per mile. The same trip in my Model S, assuming my long term average of 330...
