Full FSD Free Trial: Why I'd never buy it . . . ever.

What on gods earth does flying a plane got to do with FSD?? Let's stay centred on this subject shall we? It's growing arms and legs because (a) it's new(ish) technology and (b) peeps are parting with their money. Ergo it is becoming an emotional subject matter. Facts - let's talk facts .... 1...

    UK - FSD, Motorways, Regulation

Some gullible members (on the Canada site) are opting for the $99/month for fsd(supervised)....you really couldn't make it up! Why not just send Musk a cheque each month for same, whilst carrying on as normal because you have to drive with your hands and feet inches away from the controls whilst...

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

"Driving is less stressful and less tiring with an assistance program such as this. If you are driving a long distance, you will be less exhausted when you arrive." Might I suggest that if/when FSD makes a decision (overtaking/lane changes/speed changes) the driver will need to monitor the cars...

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

You're not answering my question. It might be amazing, but does the driver still need to supervise and monitor at such close quarters - to ensure the car doesn't 'go bandit'?
  13. Z

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

Thanks for the reply. But it doesn't directly answer my question. You are paying over a thousand bucks each year to take your hands of the wheel. Everything else remains the same. You can't doze off, you can't sight see, you can't read the paper, you can't do anything but concentrate on what the...

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

So tell me - assuming you go ahead and pay $99/month or $10/month - allowing you to use FSD......do you still have to (a) supervise the car, (b) remain within touching distance of the wheel and pedals and (c) look ahead and second guess what might be coming up and prepare for the worst? If the...

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

CarGo - I am talking from an holistic perspective. The software engineers must protect the occupants in all scenarios of NORMAL driving. When ALL cars are aotunomous - there will be no boy racers! Problem is......getting from now to when autonomy is compulsory - that is the minefield.

    Tesla MOT near Chester UK?

Apologies - didn't realise the Tesla SC didn't do MOT's! Have you called them and asked where others do their MOT's? I believe most garages do EV MOT's as they don't need specialist equipment to carry it out. Nonetheless here is one: https://peacockgarage.co.uk/car-service-prices/tesla/ Good...

How to deal with phantom braking?

Reduction of gen braking is a backward step for me. It happened about two downloads ago. I loved "creep" mode! Why remove this function I wonder?

How to deal with phantom braking?

I had my first PB experience last week after 6 months of nothingness. I reported it to Tesla via my APP and lo and behold they came back with: We need your geographical position / time / dashcam data for the incident to investigate. Then I looked on the UK Tesla forum only to find that owners...

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

mspohr - just think about what I said for a second. It is rare - exceptionally rare - infinitessimally rare - vanishingly rare....... that a human being with family onboard for instance - will deliberately slam the brakes on at speed in the fast lane of a highway (phantom braking). The same goes...

xcyber - come back in 10 years...they'll still be talking about FSD version 26.11.00 or similar. Full autonomy isn't going to happen as we know it. Full stop. It will require a containment area to capture or prevent stray or bandit autonomous vehicles. IE: Driverless cars locked into a road...

Only yesterday in heavy rain, coming back from the airport; every 5 minutes or so - various messages came up saying anything from: pillar cameras obscured, or lane deviation error, or camera obstructions.....and FSD relies 100% on cameras - no? Fursty ferrret - quite naive, if I may say so. You have little or no experience of such circumstances. I have spent a working lifetime of being involved in such situations where life or death decisions are made on roads and in the air. Like it or not - some decisions made by the operator of...

    UK FSD Discussion

Then there is the driverless car dilemma, does the car decide who should die and who should live? EG: Driverless car comes around a corner at speed and is confronted either with colliding with a group of children crossing the road or swerving to avoid them and killing "only" the one passenger...

So two driverless cars are approaching each other down a narrow (one lane) road. If they had drivers, one would inevitably back up until they could move over far enough to let the other car pass. However, what would happen if they were driverless (no steering wheel, passengers in the back)...

Model 3 Tow Hitch Installation - EcoHitch and near Factory Wiring

You obviously know your stuff respect. However, you say that the M3 isn't rated to tow in the US, so why do it and at the same time - remain within warranty/insurance? In the UK, fitting a hitch, post manufacture, is not recommended. When I spoke to Tesla to ask for clarification, they said my...

I just drove 800 (highway) miles on FSD v11.4.9 and it was really, really good.

RNhurt - based on your experience using FSD in anger so to speak - can you see a time in the next 10+ yrs when driverless cars will be used where the occupant is genuinely a passenger only (IE: no steering wheel etc)?
  38. Z

    UK - FSD, Motorways, Regulation

You're right the transition is going to be a blood bath by comparison. Certain drivers will take advantage of driverless cars and create mayhem during that transition. For instance FSD goes into defence mode if the car is threatened by the proximity of another vehicle which poses a risk and the...

    UK - FSD, Motorways, Regulation

Even IF.....IF FSD level 4 / 5 came about, then the system would have to be duplex as a mimimum. IE: every decision made by the car would have to be corroborated by an independent arrangement. This could mean that all data sent back to either the central bus in the car or back to a server...

    UK - FSD, Motorways, Regulation

Two of dozens of examples of misdemeanors with the FSD. Please try and remember that ANY mistake the fsd makes - could cost you your life. UK - FSD, Motorways, Regulation

wiberdaforce - IMO, just look around you. For FSD to function properly - never mind safely (on UK roads) the road system needs to be borderline pristine with clear and unambiguous white lining and road signs to boot. VERY FEW roads outside of modern motorways have anywhere near this standard. It...

Teslas and UK ‘don’t touch your phone’ laws

No-one in their right mind would agree that moving to a touchscreen for nearly all driveable functions including essential ones like 'AC', Emergency SoS, wiper speeds etc etc - was an intelligent move by the OEM's. Probably tolerable if that screen was front and centre of your line of sight but...

Why don't you bypass the charger? Plug the car into your 3 pin socket and try again. That's what I do as I haven't a charger. Admittedly you have to double the charge time but you've got the time haven't you? Set the car to 80% and the IO App to 80% and say 0700 completion time....see what happens

    Tow Bar / Hitch

In the UK - it is not permitted to fit any aftermarket tow bar to a M3 without nullifying their warranty, due to: software and electric issues. I have checked and double checked with Tesla. The car isn't configured for a tow hitch once it goes into production. Only way to remain within warranty...

Why choose Model 3 over Model Y if you can have more trunk space?

Tow bar - I spoke to the local SC and they said two things (a) Post production fit mustn't be installed by an after market company because it means them splicing into the existing electrics which will make the warranty null and void. (b) tow bar anchor is too clase to battery tray and a rear end...

Why choose Model 3 over Model Y if you can have more trunk space?

I was looking to buy a 2nd M3 - love it so much........but and it's a massive BUT...... In the UK, Tesla have told me that categorically you cannot fit an after market tow bar???? [Only order one to be fitted pre-production]. I am a keen biker which means I couldn't fit my bike rack to the car...
