    Homelink Australia questions

Yes. When you activate the garage door with Homelink, it actually transmits the command 9 times in a row across approx 1 or 2 seconds. This causes problems with my garage door because open and close use the same button on the remote, and so Homelink sometimes makes the door start opening then...

    Non random battery drain

I have the same issue. It ONLY happens between 60-65% and I lose around 5% or so while the car is asleep. It doesn't seem to be affected by temperature or by firmware updates. If I park the car with 66% then come back later, it will still be on 66% (no drain). If I park on 65%, when I get back...

Tesla recalls 2 million vehicles to limit use of Autopilot

The only way you can look at your phone for 2.5 minutes with AP on is if you're deliberately trying to fool the system. It is possible if you wear sunglasses, keep your head pointed straight ahead, and hold your phone somewhere the cabin camera can't see (like on your knee). Otherwise I find it...

Thoughts on buying a used Model 3 from Hertz?

Maybe it's different here in Australia, but I've rented a Toyota Corolla from Hertz that was about 10-20,000km overdue for an oil change. In fact the car was also unregistered. It hadn't been renewed after the initial 12 months ran out. Personally I wouldn't touch a rental car with a 50 foot pole.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

It worked for about 24 hours for me but then this morning it had gone back to beeping the horn again despite the fact that I have a custom lock sound enabled in the settings. This update is pretty buggy.

Updated to 2023.44.30 (cabin camera enforcement) Anyway to roll back??

I live in Australia. The recall doesn't even apply here but Tesla has forced this crap update on us anyway. That is on Tesla. They pushed the update out globally entirely on their own accord.

    2023 S/W Holiday Update

Interesting that it managed to add an entire car that doesn't exist when they said it's not using pre-computed objects and is looking at what's actually there. Sounds like the way they claim it works isn't entirely true.

Got Homelink installed and it never sees the remote

Homelink only works with 433MHz garage doors. What frequency does yours use? I had to buy a 433MHz receiver for my garage because the one it had was different.

2023.44.30.2 downloaded to 100%, then poof, gone.

Agree. I was looking forward to the update and anxiously checking every day for updates, but now that I've got it I wish I didn't. It's terrible.

    2023 Holiday Update Imminent

When using a custom lock sound, or when using horn on lock (or whatever it's called in the settings)?
  12. S

    2023 Holiday Update Imminent

I noticed the same behaviour on a 2019 Model 3. I assume it's probably happening to everybody but most haven't noticed because when using a phone key you never get an unlock sound.

Errors - power reduced, vehicle is free rolling, unable to apply parking brake

I've had the car back for a while now. Tesla was unable to reproduce the problem and said to let them know if anything further happens. They blamed it on the OBD harness and said that it was messing up the CANBUS. I couldn't really find much information about that online but the Tesla technician...

    2023 Holiday Update Imminent

When? I never had it until today when I updated to 2023.44.30.2. 12 hours ago I could use AP with the camera covered with no issues.

    2023 Holiday Update Imminent

I haven't tried yet with the cabin camera uncovered so I'm not sure if it will be different, but with the camera covered on an EAP (so, non-FSD) Model 3, the wheel nag is horrible. I can barely go 10 seconds before it gives one of the beeping red alerts just before it force disconnects. If this...

    Uberturbine Aero Covers

When I bought my chrome trim car earlier this year and showed it to people at work, one of the very first things they said was "I like the chrome around the windows". These are people who know nothing about cars and have no idea that some Teslas have black trim. I'm obviously biased but I think...

Why choose Model 3 over Model Y if you can have more trunk space?

I play golf too and I can get a full set of clubs inside the boot of my M3 without folding the seats. If you put it diagonally with the bag in the back left corner and the club heads just behind the right side taillight then it goes in no worries.

I continue to be amazed at the hatred for EVs

No, people who live in cities don't necessarily have long commutes, and for them an EV would probably work fine. I drive 60km per day for work and so I own a Tesla because it suits the driving I do. The problem is that if you live in a rural area the range of an EV is nowhere near enough and...

I continue to be amazed at the hatred for EVs

Me too. If people want to buy EVs, that's fine. If they want to buy a petrol or diesel car instead that's also fine. Let the free market decide which is the better car. Despite what I'm sure the government wants, it's impossible to mandate EVs here in Australia - at least not for a very long...

I continue to be amazed at the hatred for EVs

Where I live Teslas are still uncommon. I still get people deliberately blowing exhaust smoke in front of me, or revving their engine in neutral as they overtake me. It's usually one of those lifted 4WDs with mud tyres, maxtrax on the roof, etc. Not sure what they're trying to prove because my...

What's your favorite model 3 interior?

I'm pretty much in the exact opposite situation. I currently have a refresh loaner and dislike it compared to my original. I do prefer how the dashboard strip continues onto the doors in the refresh, but I hate the centre console. The way the compartment doors look is messy and cluttered. The...

Errors - power reduced, vehicle is free rolling, unable to apply parking brake

The car sat at the service centre for 5 days (which to be fair included a weekend) before it was looked at. After it was looked at I was sent a $300 estimate for diagnostics which was listed as customer pays. I spoke to the service manager on the phone who confirmed that yes, it actually is...

Model 3 (Stealth) Performance - 5y ownership, service history + high battery degradation?

The most efficient speed is around 70-80km/h. If you cruise at this speed and never stop you can do pretty much double the EPA range. This obviously isn't realistic driving though. In my city I spend a lot of time on quiet roads cruising at those speeds, so when you then take into account things...

Errors - power reduced, vehicle is free rolling, unable to apply parking brake

Interesting you say that. I've never really paid any attention to the parking brake, but I just went out to play in the loan car they gave me. There are two very different sounds, a mechanical whirring when pressing the button, and a short click when holding the button. I wonder if the whirring...

Errors - power reduced, vehicle is free rolling, unable to apply parking brake

Yes, regular brake pedal still worked luckily. Power steering was also okay. Parking brake not working seems like a bizzare fault. It's not a very complex component.

Errors - power reduced, vehicle is free rolling, unable to apply parking brake

They gave me a loan car and put an estimate of 48 hours on the repair job, so I think Tesla is assuming that it's something more serious. Also, the puddle was water afterall. It fully evaporated.

Errors - power reduced, vehicle is free rolling, unable to apply parking brake

I logged a job with roadside assist. He rang me and asked a few questions. He seemed concerned when I said that it fell out of gear and was free rolling. Tow truck is on the way and will be here in 90 minutes...

Errors - power reduced, vehicle is free rolling, unable to apply parking brake

Yep, it's a Tesla CPO vehicle which is still in warranty. I agree. I'm currently at work and I drive on a 110km/h road to get home. This problem occuring at that speed could be fatal. I just found a fairly large puddle under the car. I rubbed some on my fingers and smelt it but it appears to...

OBD bluetooth adapter fails to connect to ECU

I did try ScanMyTesla with the cheap eBay OBD2 adapter. I then got a refund for the app because I couldn't get it to work. I haven't tried it with the OBDLink adapter (don't think I'll be able to get a second refund and don't really want to buy it when there's a good chance it won't work) I...

Errors - power reduced, vehicle is free rolling, unable to apply parking brake

2019 Model 3 Performance I was driving this morning and everything was fine. I then got an error saying power reduced, and that power may return after parking and starting a new drive. I was unable to stop on that road so I kept going. A few minutes later, it lit up like a christmas tree. I...

OBD bluetooth adapter fails to connect to ECU

I bought the exact same model and am still having the same issue that the cheap eBay ones had. This is what it looks like in Torque. It's connected to the adapter but isn't seeing any data from the car. What am I missing here? Clearly the adapter is receiving power from the car.

UK Tailgate Light 3pin to 4pin Adaptor

I don't know anything about how the US cars are wired, but I can tell you that on European/Australian cars the front and rear fog lights are controlled separately. There are two independent buttons in the lighting controls on the screen.
  34. S

UK Tailgate Light 3pin to 4pin Adaptor

Yes, but the car originally already had one rear fog light. All I did was add the second one on the other side. I got the lights off a crashed car from a wrecker. The outer taillights (with the brake and indicator) are a direct plug in with no modifications needed. The inner lights have 3 pin...

UK Tailgate Light 3pin to 4pin Adaptor

I will too, over a year later. I've successfully done this conversion, Europe (/Australia) 3 pin inner taillight to 4 pin. I removed the pins from the old 3 pin connector and inserted them into the new 4 pin plug. I then spliced into the reverse and rear fog light wires to add the extra wire...

Model 3 (Stealth) Performance - 5y ownership, service history + high battery degradation?

In my experience it took several weeks of letting the car sleep at different charge levels before the BMS recalibrated. It's a gradual process, not something that happens instantly as soon as the car sleeps then wakes once. I was getting 445-450km range in my 2019 Performance Stealth which has...

OBD bluetooth adapter fails to connect to ECU

I bought an OBD harness which goes under the rear air vents. I installed it and connected an OBD bluetooth adapter to it. The adapter powers up and seems to be running correctly. I can see the OBD bluetooth device on my phone and can pair with it. But the problem is that when I run ScanMyTesla...

What actually are the signature lights and how to tell if they're working

Thanks. Are there any good close up photos of how a working signature light should look? I can see light coming from mine but it seems like the LEDs are set back a fair way from the plastic diffuser which makes it hard to actually see. Is this the problem people talk about where the glue fails...

What actually are the signature lights and how to tell if they're working

I've done a lot of reading and looked at photos and videos but it's still not clear to me what the signature lights actually are. At first I was under the impression that it was the big textured strip between the main headlight and the indicator/turn signal, but now I'm wondering if it's...

    Homelink Australia questions

I used that receiver too and wired it up to a Gliderol GTS garage door opener. I got the receiver from Aliexpress where they're about 15 bucks including delivery. I was suspicious whether a device this cheap would actually support rolling codes or not and didn't want to make my garage door...

    Pedestrian Warning System (PWS) Retrofit

I took my car (Aug 2019 build) in for an unrelated reason today, and while I was there I mentioned that it has the PWS speaker installed but it's not working properly and seems to be disabled. I didn't say where the speaker came from or who installed it - just that it is installed and isn't...

    Out of warranty ownership

There were no photos and I couldn't see the car. Although I also didn't bother asking because I just assumed the answer would be no. The experience was good. Everything went smoothly and the car even arrived a couple of days before the scheduled delivery date. Cosmetic condition is very good...

Running service mode battery health test with mobile connector

I want to run the battery health test but I only have a mobile connector (240V 10A). I'm aware that it will take at least a couple of days to run the test with 2kW charging, but other than the fact that it will be slow, are there any issues with running the test with a mobile connector? Will...

    Out of warranty ownership

Thanks both for the replies. Mine isn't a salvage title (at least I hope not), but what would those people do if they needed repairs? Basically they're on their own, and if they can't find a mechanic, tough luck, send the car to scrap? What's considered a third party modification? I'm...

    Out of warranty ownership

I have just recently purchased a used 2019 M3P direct from Tesla. Being a Tesla CPO vehicle it comes with an extra 12 months warranty, but I'm wondering what happens after those 12 months are up. Can I still use roadside assistance if I'm willing to pay? Obviously I know that I won't get...
