Ontario overnight ultra low rate announced

I agree. Toronto electricity price is way too low for solar to make sense unless you can sell back to the grid.

Canadian Insurance and Tracking app with Teslas

I do #2-#4 (aren't #5 and #3 the same?) not to game the insurance app, but because that's how I drive and how I want my kids to drive in the future. Also because my Prius had a scoring system built in (It evaluates my start up, cruising and braking for each stop and go), so I am used to it. I...

Wouldn't Hydro produce less power in winter as well? That's pretty amazing Quebec is doing 100% renewable now.

Battery Change-out Stations— why wouldn’t this work?

Is that true? I thought only the 4680s are like that.

Tesla won't ship or mobile service winter tires???

How much are TPMS and rims from Tesla? I don't see them listed online.

Ontario overnight ultra low rate announced

Thanks, That's interesting, Yeah, MicroFIT was a great program. That is a lot of power being generated. Even with the EV, I don't use that much per year. But the difference between summer and winter is staggering. Hard to get enough battery capacity to store all that. I wonder how they are going...

Ontario overnight ultra low rate announced

In Toronto? Wow, I didn't think Toronto winter was that bad for solar. Yeah, without leaving the grid, not sure solar is really worthwhile in Ontario. Will see how the ULO plays out, but I suspect I don't pay enough for electricity to justify solar.

    Our very unpleasant experience

$5K rebate? Damn, I should have waited for that. They have those in Ontairo?

Ontario overnight ultra low rate announced

The Chinese 5kwh LFP battery is $2500 a pop I think. If you save 10 cents per kwh, then you will need 25000 kwh or 5000 cycles to break even, not to mention installation cost. Ontario's rate is just too low to make that worthwhile. In the UK, they are charging like 34p per kwh on peak, 60 cents...

There is no such thing as default regen braking on a Tesla. It's based on the pressure you apply to the gas pedal. Yes, the program doesn't really work on highways ramps, but that has nothing to do with regen breaking. Just delete the trips. EVs are not great on highways anyway. At least in...

Canadian Insurance and Tracking app with Teslas

Based on the comments here and from my friends, there will not be a lot more adopters. :D They can drive up the rates anyway, they don't need driving stats. And any driving stats they got would probably be counter productive since only "good" (more like slow rather than good) drivers will get...

What broke on the model S? $14K is a lot.

    Tesla is Total Junk

That sums up Toyota for you. :D They can last forever if you are willing to ignore all the minor things and keep them well maintained, but not very good cars.

    New SC rates in Ontario

Yeah, it is more expensive to charge the Tesla than fueling up my Prius C now (which can go 800kms on a tank whereas my Model Y can only go less than 400kms). Glad I only charge at home and there's a free level 2 charger not too far away if needed.

Canadian Insurance and Tracking app with Teslas

Had the similar tracking with my previous insurance company, got a big discount and it kept going down over the years. I am sure it went up for the masses, don't really care. In the GTA at least, the masses really need to learn how to drive.
  16. A

Canadian Insurance and Tracking app with Teslas

Would be pretty hard for them to justify given their apps says I am getting 21% discounts on renewal and pretty much everyone is getting it since you can just delete your bad scores given there's no way they can prove you were driving. Plus, they don't need excuse to raise rates, they can raise...

    Bogus "Gas Savings"

That's rough. Ontario just got 2.4 cents/kwh over night rate, in exchange for higher peak rate (24 cents/kwh). At 32 cents/kwh, might make sense to get solar roofs.
  18. A

Canadian Insurance and Tracking app with Teslas

Why not? It's not as if google, apple or even Tesla don't already know everything about you. Tesla is the wrong car for people who are concerned about privacy.
  19. A

    Bogus "Gas Savings"

I replaced my Prius C with a model Y (well, I still got the Prius as the second car). So far, gas saving is about 80%. Granted, I only spent a little over $100 CAD on gas each month, but charging at home cost only about $20 a month.
  20. A

Canadian Insurance and Tracking app with Teslas

I am with TD as well. It's basically only good for local drives since you will get dinged regardless how well you drive on the high way. Just delete anything less than 80 score. I usually score in the 70s on the highway. But yeah, you just need to be very gentle with the pedal both during...

Tesla won't ship or mobile service winter tires???

Who do you guys buy winter tires/Rims from? I normally buy from Costco for my previous car. Tesla is $3K including TPM, which seems really high, I am wonder whether I should just go with them or find better prices elsewhere. The same tire at Costco is $2K, add rims and TPM, not much less expensive.

So...do we charge the LFP RWD Y to 100% everyday?

2023 Model Y RWD, made in Shanghai. Sorry, I mistyped, was 394kms.
  25. A

So...do we charge the LFP RWD Y to 100% everyday?

That's amazing. Mine was rated 394km, less than two months, it already dropped to 379km once before recovered to 385km now. Right now I am charging on the weekend and it can last the entire week. With the new ultra low overnight rate plan, I might have to charge a lot more frequently going...

Ontario overnight ultra low rate announced

Alectra just enabled the ULO plan. Time to sign up. Although I am not sure whether I will come out ahead given the day time rate is much higher. We will see.
  27. A

So...do we charge the LFP RWD Y to 100% everyday?

True, but I would really hope the car last at least 20 years, if not 40 years given the price. I am ok if the range shortens to 100km (25%) though, just don't die on me. My daily commute only uses 6-7% and since I am charging at 110v, I can precisely control how much goes in (16% over 8...

So...do we charge the LFP RWD Y to 100% everyday?

Based on the chart, 10% or less have the lowest calendar loss at 25C, significantly less than at 40-60%. Not sure I am comfortable going that low though.
  29. A

So...do we charge the LFP RWD Y to 100% everyday?

Interesting, so I should keep it at 20%? I guess my previous setting of 80% was probably bad for the battery, assuming the car keep the battery cooled to 25C at all time.

    2 year difference

Unfortunately, I think this will continue with fast battery technology advances and our cars will not be able to retain value. I hope I never would have to sell my car. It is good for the EV market though and if we allowed cheaper EVs into the market, EV would have more momentums to replace...

Ontario overnight ultra low rate announced

That is great news. Thx. Read an article where someone in PEI had to rip out their batteries due to code. MSN but likely regulations are different across provinces. I haven't looked into Ontario code. I use about 150kwh at peak or mid-peak, not really worth the hassle to install a battery...

Ontario overnight ultra low rate announced

I think account fee is like $30 or something (part of Delivery), which is robbery. I also heard that it's illegal to go off-grid, but I could be wrong. My last bill had $60 for electricity and $50 for delivery, so it will make a difference, but percentage wise, not a lot.

Model Y RWD now available. RWD+AWD now eligible for iZEV Rebate

Not sure what you meant. It was Tesla's decision to not price their cars under the threshold. The threshold also kept the other EVs price down (we are seeing price jumps across the board after it was lifted). Speaking of getting screwed, I missed the $14K Ontario rebate and any future rebates...
  34. A

So...do we charge the LFP RWD Y to 100% everyday?

I wouldn't be able to even if I tried unless I kept it plugged in all weekend. I am actually a little worried about warranty implication given Tesla knows everything about our cars. I kept mine at around 50% most of the time, charged to 100% three times so far. Lost over 2% capacity after less...

Ontario overnight ultra low rate announced

Unfortunately, no. Other than the price, that's my biggest regret comparing to an Ioniq 5. It would still require a lot of electrician work though. I have seen a UK video where they installed batteries to take advantage of the off-peak rate. However, I believe that could be illegal in Canada...

Ontario overnight ultra low rate announced

I am still waiting for Alectra to bring it. They are really dragging their feet. Note that we pay another 2-3 cents/kwh on "delivery charges", so it would not really be 2.4 cents/kwh, more like 5 cents or more.

    Tesla is Total Junk

Really, I rarely hear anything good about BMWs, Mercedes, etc... Lexus, on the other hand, are supposed to last forever. My Japan built Toyota started to develop engine noises after 10 years/180k kms, not to mention a set of other problems (e.g. fan is very loud, rubber fitting fell off, piece...

Wh/km (or mi) / range grossly mis-advertised, if not fraudulent... srsly.

My RWD model Y (60kwh LFP 394km EPA) hasn't experienced a winter yet, but here is my experience after about 2500km in a unusually cool summer: Overall, on board computer is telling me I am doing 120wh/km, translating to 500km. Teslamate says I am doing 132wh/km, translating to 455km. At 35C...

Brand New 2023 Model Y LR Battery Failed in 3 Days

Would they replace it with a new brand new battery or a refurbished one?
  40. A

power steering failed within 3 months.

I have never had a car company do that for me, but then again, Tesla is the first "expensive" car I have ever got.

Where to get tires rotated in Gta

Why not their service centers? I plan to just do it while swapping winter tires on/off. Those things are expensive though, might bite the bullet and buy it from Tesla for $3K. Pretty much will wipe out all the gas savings for me. :(

Battery Change-out Stations— why wouldn’t this work?

Sorry, it was NIO, not Li Auto. Here is a video:
  44. A

Battery Change-out Stations— why wouldn’t this work?

I don't know about battery changing stations (Li Auto does it rather successfully, but I don't think it would scale), but it would be nice to be able to replace failed battery for cheap or upgrade to a better battery. Therefore, I am all for replaceable battery designs.

The Floor Mat Decision - If It Helps Others

I bought Phantom from Costco (made by Tuxmat) for $230 CAD, cheaper than their own price. I didn't even clip them in, works well and I like the sides are very tall. Probably hard to take out and clean though. Somehow my son still manages to kick on the parts that are not covered. Didn't feel...

Floor mats that don’t slide and look good

I got Phandom from Costco (Tuxmats) mainly because the sides are very tall and it doesn't feel like rubber. My wife said she like the mat more than the car. :D
