Model year and mileage will change the selling value. Teslas may be different, but then there's basic human psychology involved.

I'll be keeping my FUSC - one way or another. If they let me transfer it to a new VIN after a two-week hold, that'll be great. If they won't, I'll cancel and they'll lose the sale. My good old current MX with FUSC will stay in my garage.

Is there a specific citation from the IRS that states this? If it's never been titled and it sells for under $80K, doesn't it meet the IRS requirements? Anyone have a friend who's a Tax Attorney?

Well, a sigh of relief. That's a stress reducer. Now if the full trax credit would still work in 2024.

Tesla rep told me the tax credit is based on the MSRP (reported to the IRS), not the actual purchase price. I don't see how that can fly. I don't know but I would assume the IRS uses the actual purchase price as shown on your invoice - not some unused number.

Does you title state that it's a 2021? I got my 2016 MX on Dec 20, 2016.

Tesla assigns the model year strictly on the delivery date. If you get it on 12/31, it's a 23. If you get it on 1/1, it's a 24. And, they don't change the build at midnight on the 12/31.

It's also very difficult to find (and get) a car from inventory that qualifies for the tax credit. Nearly all have MSRPs greater than $80K.

I'm in the same boat exactly. I ordered on Oct 22. My new EDD is Jan 6 - Mar 3. So, the Free Supercharging Transfer is unattainable. They should've based the Supercharging transfer on an order date window. You'd think they would know better.

Regarding the Inventory cars, I was told by a Tesla rep that the tax credit is only available (reported to IRS) based on the MSRP, not the actual sales price.
