    Autopilot and Supercharging on a 2013 Model S 60

You're spot on, except that, sometimes in the past, before I bought the car, a previous owner DID buy the "unlock" making my car a 60. I agree $12.5K is absolutely absurd, even if it does include FUSC, which I really neither want or need. See my other posts on how I feel about FUSC, at least...

2012 Model s WiFi does not see networks

No, it was working when I first got the car 5 months ago, before the DIY 4G LTE upgrade. After I wrote the post last night I laid in bed thinking about it and decided to get up and go out to the car and try again, it had been a few days since I last tried it, before the notice of the new...

Dead S - Towing to SC - Will they be able to move it?

Yeah, and now I have one I care a lot more about!

2012 Model s WiFi does not see networks

OK, now my LTE is still working (after the DIY upgrade) but I've noticed my wifi isn't! Earlier in this thread I said they were both working after the upgrade but now I'm not so sure I actually checked the wifi after the upgrade. The LTE worked so I didn't care about the wifi. I noticed the...

Dead S - Towing to SC - Will they be able to move it?

Yep, that's why I was never keen on it. But that's not the point, the point is, is there anything about the suspension, braking, etc that would prevent it? If it had an LDU then that could get damaged. If it were in tow mode the UG says to go slow and only like 30 ft. But w/o a drive unit?

Dead S - Towing to SC - Will they be able to move it?

You're probably right, but maybe that's just because most ICE cars these days are FWD. Pretty sure they can and still do it. I wouldn't want my MS60 to be towed like that, but I'm not sure it would be a problem w/o a front drive unit. Would it damage the regenerative braking system? I...

Dead S - Towing to SC - Will they be able to move it?

I need to read the user guide but was wondering.... I've got a 2014 MS60 RWD. I've always preferred flatbeds vs raising the rear end to let the front wheels turn free, so this is more theoretical, but w/o a front motor, can my car be towed like that? I hadn't given it much/any thought till...

People who don't buy because of "charging time"

Yeah but they sure do piss and moan when gas prices go up fifty cents a gallon! Time to invade the middle east and take their oil. Yeah, because we all know how cheap wars are and how quickly and cheaply we can build refining and distribution capabilities. Great plan Skippy

People who don't buy because of "charging time"

Agree mostly, I'm also at that age where the bladder doesn't let me sleep thru the night or drive for hours on end without a stop. Having said that, I've never had to take a 20 piss! 😂🤣

Supercharging waiting makes my friends angry

My MS60 does not have SuC so I had to use L2 destination chargers
  14. S

Supercharging waiting makes my friends angry

No, I just severely overestimated my range and underestimated the slow charging rates at destination chargers. I went to a concert and planned on leaving the car charging during the concert, which would have worked as planned, but the charger was in a sketchy area so I didn't. Then when we...

Cost to Enable SuperCharging on 2014 MS60?

And they said they have no way of changing those option codes. He said something to the effect that it was burned into the BMS but that sounds like BS.

Cost to Enable SuperCharging on 2014 MS60?

The SC has confirmed that it has already been licensed for the full 60kW and my charging and range confirms that. I told the SC that the fact that the car started as an MS40 is ancient history and irrelevant. It's been licensed to be a 60kW pack, end of story. But it seems to have the "scarlet...

Cost to Enable SuperCharging on 2014 MS60?

Thanks. The second SC told me that it was originally a MS40 but has since been unlocked. I don't usually charge to 100% but I did to see it's current max rated range, 191 miles, which is about 7% degraded from the original 208 mile rating for a 60kW pack. The 40kW was rated for 139 miles when...

Yes but why no PAYG option? They're trying to get rid of FUSC licenses. Makes no sense.

Cost to Enable SuperCharging on 2014 MS60?

About 4 months ago I purchased my first Tesla, a 2014 MS60. It was a base / "budget" model with optional features purchased except lifetime premium connectivity. No SuperCharging, no Navigation, no Tech Package, no premium audio, interior, suspension, nada. In fact I just learned that...

Charging on Road Trips for Newbie

Thanks Rocky. Yeah, as much as we might hate to admit it, running out of battery is a much bigger issue for us than for ICE drivers out of gas. The AAA mobile charger option is a great start but it's in its early stages and not available everywhere. We just have to be more careful. I did go...

Charging on Road Trips for Newbie

Charging on Road Trips for Newbie

And before I even bought the car, I had them inspect it, and when I asked THEN, I was told it would cost $2500 to enable SuC NOT $12K! So I bought the car thinking that if I decided I needed it, after some time getting familiar with it and it's range, I could add SuC for $2.5K. Now that I own...

Charging on Road Trips for Newbie

I couldn't agree more. I thought they relented when I recently requested a formal quote to get that $12K in writing and to see if there was any other hardware required. They quoted an $800 battery inspection and told me if it passed the inspection they'd enable SuC, but as PAYG, vs the $12K...

Charging on Road Trips for Newbie

Yeah thanks, I'm a AAA member and wasn't aware of that. But I checked yesterday when Rocky_H also mentioned this and found that they don't offer this in Chicago, only in certain cities, and I'd be curious how many of these vehicles they have in each city and what the wait times might be. See...

Charging on Road Trips for Newbie

I stand corrected, thanks! I'm a AAA customer since long before getting the MS60 so good to know. I'll definitely check it out. "The times they are a changin'!". But I suspect that it's pretty limited for now.

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

Update - the problem seems to be with the opener. I have 3 cars, 2Hyundai's with HL built into the rearview mirror, and the MS60, with the recently installed used HL from eBay enabled by the SC last Friday. I also have the MyQ hub paired with the opener. My old Sonata Hybrid, had been paired...

Charging on Road Trips for Newbie

😁, no worries. Yeah, I've had my "vintage" 2014 MS60 for about 4 months and am learning as I go as well. I saw another post asking what users with older models like mine were seeing for battery degradation which led me to charge my car to 100% for the first time and then compare it's estimated...

While cars froze in Chicago, I used hotel charging for a trouble-free 2-week road trip in snowy Utah without superchargers

Yeah, I had a wiring issue in my house after a storm recently, and the electrician charged $225 just for the house visit and 1 hour troubleshooting. He was a really nice guy, only charged me $300 for about 2.5 hours of troubleshooting. No hardware was required, and he fixed the problem, a...

Supercharging waiting makes my friends angry

Read my day-1 nightmare trip when I picked up my 2014 MS60 and foolishly decided to take it beyond it's range to a concert.... A cautionary tale! The wife handled it pretty well but now is, understandably, very gunshy about taking it for anything beyond a relatively short trip! 😂😝😘

While cars froze in Chicago, I used hotel charging for a trouble-free 2-week road trip in snowy Utah without superchargers

I doubt that it is intentional, it is more likely corp. Mgmt folks who know little or nothing about EVs and charging, the old "less is more" mentality, who see articles saying that the EV market is increasing and if they put in some L2 destination charging they can increase their room bookings...

Charging on Road Trips for Newbie

Sorry, right, it could be optimistic, but not nearly as optimistic as assuming you'll get anywhere near the EPA estimate. I read your reply too quickly and was thinking that my swag was too conservative! Often non-EVers, when they hear that I bought a Tesla, ask me what the range is. This...
  35. S

Charging on Road Trips for Newbie

And yeah, starting at 100% was the point. Most people don't. Most people don't get the EPA estimated range. My example wasn't to put a specific number on what a new owner should expect, it was to realize that you don't use 100% of an unrealistically high EPA estimate.
  36. S

Charging on Road Trips for Newbie

Yeah, there are other variables as well. so YMMV but it emphasizes to a new EV'er that the EPA estimates are unrealistic and you never use 100% of your charge. That was the original intent rather than it being an actual formula. But 72.25% of the EPA estimate and factoring in some reserved...

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

Yeah. I thought the same. I tried the D-mode and it gave some errors w/o switching modes. I thought about reinstalling the cars software as well, but have never done it before. I've flashed firmware on several android tablets, but this is a much more expensive "tablet"! I'd be really pissed...

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

Hmmm.... I have the HL icon at the top of the screen and can start to program a new HL but I get a screen saying "preparing to program, please wait it can take up to a minute", then it times out and goes back to the screen where you can add devices. Seems odd that it would show enabled and...

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

I can live w/o SuC, it's more principle at this point, that they have increased the cost to enable SuC almost five fold, from $2500 after initial purchase to now $12K. I could understand if they left it at $2500, which used to be for FUSC, but was now for PAYG, since they want to get rid of...

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

And that seems to be the heart of the problem, my VIN is forever cursed with it's original MS40 heritage and the fact that it has now been licensed to be a full MS60, Tesla seemingly refuses to change it. Having said that, I'm not they only one who has had this $12K price quoted. Back in...

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

That seems to be my last option as they are giving me no real official option. I'll need to research what non-Tesla options are in the Chicago area where I live. They keep bringing up that originally my car was an MS40 but was later licensed for full 60kW battery, making it an MS60, but the...

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

Update: this afternoon I picked up the car from the SC. As I knew would be the case, they said that they had contacted the SuperCharging group and were told that the only option was the ridiculous $12K FUSC option, there was no PAYG option for my car. They said that the BMS had the cars...

Daily Laugh- Service Center Says "Headlight Condensation is Because EVs run hotter than ICE"

It's a shame they can't figure out how to capture all that battery heat and direct it into the cabin, at least in the winter, then you wouldn't need the electric heater and could save some battery! 😂

    Used Model S 2016.5 inquiry

The only issue I had doing the DIY upgrades is that the replacement IC display worked but had a message at the bottom saying it needed a firmware upgrade, which I couldn't do, so paid Tesla a half hour of labor to do it, which cost about $125. The IC display was $175 on eBay. And I've...

    Used Model S 2016.5 inquiry

I'm not an expert on SuC, so I'll leave it to others to answer, but I do remember reading that Tesla may remove FUSC licenses from used cars sold so I would be cautious. Like another poster stated, you will have no proof that it was purchased or transferrable to your account.ould do a lot of...
