    Supercharger - Kettleman City, CA (LIVE 15 Nov 2017, 24 V2 + 16 V3 stalls, lounge)

Several times I was at Kettleman when my car did not have the current update, so the code displayed in Nav was not the most recent and didn't work. Fortunately Tesla owners are a helpful bunch, so when they see another owner frowning and punching in the numbers (even remembering the symbol at...

    Comprehensive USB Bug List

I held out as long as I could, but eventually had to take the car in for service and was "updated" to a current release that no longer shows my USB album art, among other downgrades. The new version spews a series of errors about my USB drive being corrupted or not formatted correctly, even...

Who here is going to lose 3G Connectivity - Feb 2022 when it sunsets?

Still on 3G, and as of 12:30 AM on February 23rd, 3G still works for me. Tesla has sent two messages via the mobile app, one back in November and the other on the 11th of February, reminding of the impending 3G shutdown and offering the $200 LTE modem upgrade. That seems reasonable and fair to...

Poll: Official Tesla Motors Club (TMC) T-Shirt. Which version would you want?

The car graphic on the sleeve is cool. I would also vote to remove the "Member" text, for the reasons that @Stavinski mentions. As someone who has collected a lot of unique t-shirts over the years, my observation is that the ones which are actually wearable out in public are as understated as...

    AP1 ONLY Please -- life after 2018.50.6

My personal version of Hanlon's Razor: "Never attribute any change to someone making a deliberate decision, either for the original behavior or the new behavior." It could be that the smaller font sizes were a bug that wasn't intended and later went away by chance when a newer version of some...

    AP1 ONLY Please -- life after 2018.50.6

It's been 865 days since 2018.32.4, a slightly later flavor of 8.1 in which USB audio works great, the UI is still relatively usable, and charging speed and range aren't throttled. Giving up app access and real-time supercharger status to keep these things is not a bad tradeoff, IMO. I think...

    Used P85+ Advise

You should know that only about 400 P85 and P85+ cars were built with Autopilot; we've been keeping a list. P55854 showed up as a Tesla used inventory listing back in October 2017. One word of warning: not sure what constitutes a "weird" Carfax but if it's been in a major accident or has a...

    Used P85+ Advise

That is a great find! The listing shows you the original packages that came with the car, including the Tech Package, the Fog Lights package, and the Parking Sensors package. Autopilot was not yet announced at the time this car would have been built (probably in September or October of 2014...

    2021 P3D with Frunk removed.

What's a 2021? ;) Anything built up through New Year's Eve would still be considered 2020, right? Or has Tesla started playing the legacy manufacturers' game to get people thinking they're buying a model that won't be out of date for another year?

Seems like my original speculated location, the Target on Birch Street, isn't happening either... at least, not anytime soon. Target apparently released a list of the locations where supercharger improvements are authorized to be installed in 2020, and Brea's not on that list. :(

    Who is still on v8?

I don't think Tesla considers it one of the primary features of the car. In order of presentation on their website (for Model S), those features are: 1. Safety - High Impact Protection, 2. AWD Performance - Quickest Acceleration, 3. Range - Go Anywhere, 4. Autopilot - Future of Driving, 5...

It's easy to write the thread off as "silly" because you own a Model 3. This thread is about coerced software updates to Model S, where there have been some significant user-visible changes over the past 18 months which you may not have experienced. Among them: - removal of choices (loss of...

Do all older S models not have chill mode?

This was answered in the thread Bruce referenced. To get Chill mode, your Model S must have AP1 hardware (or later). A 2013 Model S will not have Chill mode, because no car was built with AP hardware prior to September 2014.

USB music auto-resume related to allocation unit size

Interesting. So auto-resume might correlate with drive access speed? My experience has been with a variety of USB3 thumb drives, but not with a SSD drive, so sounds like I should give that a try. (Not sure how my edited post got split into two posts above... didn't intend to do that.)

USB music auto-resume related to allocation unit size

My observations over the past few years: 1. MP3 tracks will auto-resume in my Tesla, but FLAC tracks will not. 2. Best quality for MP3 is obtained with 320 kbps CBR (constant bit rate) encoding. 3. FLAC is preferable to MP3 since it's a lossless format and its sound quality is superior (when...

    Battery

@Jimsantacruz - does your P85 have Autopilot? (The first Model S cars with Autopilot rolled off the line in late September 2014, and the P85 was discontinued just over a month later, so there aren't a whole lot of them.)

    "Hard" reboot... nonsense, right?

Also interested in details. Are you just speculating that your reduced supercharging speed was connected to the remote login? Did it happen without accepting a software update? Is the remote address logged? How did you reach the conclusion that a person manually initiated something?

    2014 P85 Depreciation?

Both my car and the one @flynnstone bought have most of the available options, including Autopilot. For a new Model S, you now have to buy the FSD package in order to get "convenience features" including traffic-aware cruise control, which adds $7,000 to the price. I went through the Tesla...

    2014 P85 Depreciation?

Yeah, I did have some second thoughts about using the word "equivalent" since Tesla doesn't offer the same model anymore. Is it price, range, performance, features, or some combination? I used to think that as well, at first. Let's be pessimistic and assume everything SSedan listed (plus the MCU) is going to fail, even if it doesn't. 0. Keep my P85: $0 1. Replace primary charger: ($2200) 2. Replace TPMS computer: ($600) 3. Replace brake rotors and pads: ($700) 4. Front...

    2014 P85 Depreciation?

Yes, chargers and inverters can fail. The door handles can fail. So can the MCU (media control unit, AKA the big center screen), which costs somewhere around 2-3K out of warranty. My Model S: I've had it!

    1. That's the classic speedometer display for a Model S without autopilot hardware (roughly, those built before the last quarter of 2014.) I've always thought it was a shame that Tesla doesn't give AP cars the option to show that speedometer display when driving the car manually. 2. If your...

Original 12V battery @ 99k miles. Should I proactively replace?

Right, so that means your experience didn't really answer your original question: namely, does the 12V battery need proactive replacement, and when it dies, is it going to be a sudden event with no warning that prevents the car from driving? I wonder if the car can be jumped from the terminal...

Original 12V battery @ 99k miles. Should I proactively replace?

It's definitely not an unnecessary thread. Seems important to know whether impending 12V failure on a Model S will actually give you some advance warning of the fact, or will just abruptly tell you to pull over and then leave you stranded. If the 12V in a Tesla can go from apparently fine to...

Tesla forced an update of my P85D to 2019.16.2
