Class action for Model S drive unit failure?

Thanks. My plan is to find a buyer for this LDU while it’s still working, and then get a new unit from Tesla with coolant delete implemented already. The net cost should be around 3-4k and I’ll get 4 year / 50k warranty.

Class action for Model S drive unit failure?

I know, I get that a lot. Owned it since 2018, got it from Tesla used with around 50k mi. Pretty sure the motor is original. I'm just a pretty gentle driver - always on "Chill" mode, extremely rarely driven in the rain, not a lot of hard pulls, rarely drive faster than 80mph. No indication of...

P85D LDU failure leak past rotor coolant delete by QCC

Makes sense. No concerns about small bits of metal from drilling getting inside?

P85D LDU failure leak past rotor coolant delete by QCC

Did you make just one hole? On this photo someone also drained the bottom. Also what you're thinking about making a drain hole under inverter? The trapped moisture there is a common failure point but I can't find anyone who tried making a drain there without taking out the motor.

P85D LDU failure leak past rotor coolant delete by QCC

150k on the Can you share a link with the instructions that helped you with drilling a weep hole? Wouldn't want to mess it up if I go for it..

P85D LDU failure leak past rotor coolant delete by QCC

Yeah makes perfect sense to me. I just listed my still working motor on eBay and Craigslist. Once I find the buyer they can actually see that it still works perfectly while in the car, and then I’ll go to Tesla, pay 6k for a replacement and will give an old one to the buyer right at the service...

2014 Model S - Strange Noise Coming From Dash (crackling, almost rain drop sound)

Glad I found this thread after my 5 years of dealing with this random noise! The problem is that it’s pretty hard to describe this sound, so the search is difficult :) Definitely an actuator. After reading this thread I just turn the AC on and then back off and the noise stops. Not a big enough...

P85D LDU failure leak past rotor coolant delete by QCC

Actually just went through it.. Seems like no one talks about draining the inverter side except Tony, pushing his updated overpriced cover with a storm drain. I think there is a simplier way to make an inverter side drain, without taking off a motor.

P85D LDU failure leak past rotor coolant delete by QCC

What are your main takeaways from the discussions that you’ve seen? Did anyone do it on their own successfully, without taking the motor out?

    Proactively replacing RDU/LDU

So I have an idea.. maybe a bit crazy but hey, at this point why not try.. Let me know what you guys think. So, there are some videos on YT about making the drain holes on the rotor side of the housing. But seems like you have to take apart the motor first in order to do that. I also learned...

P85D LDU failure leak past rotor coolant delete by QCC

Seems like these days rather than rebuilding it makes more sense to pay Tesla service 6k for the “revision U” LDU that has coolant delete installed. I asked them this week if I would get any credit for bringing them my car while the LDU is still working so they can reuse it, instead of waiting...
