Car Hacking Research: Remote Attack Tesla Motors by Keen Security Lab

I think Tesla has done everything they should. No computer system is 100% secure and safe (at least a connected system). Tesla did due diligence, worked with security researchers, fixed the bug, deployed the patch to customers before the exploit was known to the public. These are not the...

Car Hacking Research: Remote Attack Tesla Motors by Keen Security Lab

Wouldn't that depend on whether the browser or the wifi stack had the vulnerability? If the browser had the vulnerability then you would be correct and the article is wrong. If the bug is in the wifi stack but is only exploitable through traffic from the browser (since it doesn't go over the...

It's not worth hacking the car to get the webbrowser, it really isn't that useful anyway.

    My Tesla 1 Year Later

I might be weird but I never even think of that. We just go where we need to go and if necessary use a supercharger on the way home. Maybe because our country is smaller and we have good supercharger coverage this really never becomes an issue for me. Also almost every friend we ever visit has...

    My Tesla 1 Year Later

Are you seriously that worried about range? Even if I go 60-80 miles one-way I almost never worry about it. Maybe it's because I know most of the areas I drive through very well. But I consider every-day range worries to be a thing of the past. For longer trips I just the trip-planner, it's...

Will Model 3 be your first American car?

    Lets hope not. :)

Will Model 3 be your first American car?

Neither would I :) A danish car would look like a million bucks, but the tech would all be custom made and nothing would work that well. Except for the windmill you would deploy to charge it.

Will Model 3 be your first American car?

I actually agree that european (in effect german) cars are pretty expensive to maintain in the US. Prices for parts are way different on both sides of the atlantic pond. Daewoo was actually not asscociated with Chevrolet when I had my cars. They were essentially re-branded Opel cars built in...

Will Model 3 be your first American car?

As a European I would never ever have considered any american car ever. In my country they are mostly seen (whether deserving or not) as trash on wheels with low build quality and way too expensive. What cars have I owned: - VW Transporter (1986) - Daewoo Lanos (Korean) - suprisingly reliable...

Musk: "Version two of the Powerwall probably around July, August this year"

It would be great if you could post some statistics of your power-usage/how efficient the powerwall is. As someone who pays a brick-ton for power from the grid and get paid almost nothing to sell it this looks very interesting. I would love more info about how much you "sell back" vs store and use.

    Any powerwalls in Europe?

I am looking into getting solar-panels for our house. Does anybody know if powerwalls are actually shipping in Europe? Or even better are any shipping in Denmark?

How could we NOT have Model 3 production by the end of 2017?

I think we are missing a key point here. We don't know for how long Tesla's been working on the Model 3. It's not like the company can only work on one thing at the time. I'll bet that a team has been working on things like the drive-train, battery pack and probably software for years now. The...

    Does Autopilot reduce road rage?

I've driven thousands of km's with the autopilot system by now and my impression is that it really does reduce road-rage. Now granted I was never much of an agressive driver, but I find that with the autopilot system I just generally "don't care". Example: Guy in front of me drives with uneven...

    Model 3 AWD option, why?

In my personal experience I prefer a RWD Model S over the AWD. With good winter-tires they both handle very well in snowy conditions. They don't handle the same, but both models are very predictable and easy to drive. Now there is no doubt that the AWD system is slightly more efficient...

How Long Till Solar Powered Car?

Ok why don't we do the math on this one? The amount of power hitting the ground from the sun is at best 1120 w/m2. How much surface area does a Model S have? Lets assume the car was a perfect flat square. Such a car would have a surface area of 9,77 m2. Now assume that our magical technology...

How is the Model S as a family car?

    1. Coming from a 911 you will regret the ride height and the softer feel (it's a tall car so no matter how good it is it will swerve, they all do). 2. Neither the X nor the S is a sportscar. The lower height of the S and the low center of gravity somewhat makes up for it but it is a 2 ton car...

How is the Model S as a family car?

Simple: 1. Give your wife the X. It's a family car and is the most useful for what she does. 2. Get rid of the Porsche 911-jokster dinosaur. 3. Get Model S P90DL for yourself. 4. Work 2000 hours a week to pay for it.

Even after 3 months it's not pretty. But it's like the ugly dog or cat that you just can't help but love anyway. But the ride is nice and the car works extremely well.

What is your budget for the Model lll?

As a current S85 owner here is my wishlist. 1. Same or better range than my current car 2. Smaller size 3. Same or better power to weight ratio. Preferably better. 4. RWD (Please let that be an option, FWD is a deal breaker for me, AWD is acceptable) 5. Supercharger 6. Autopilot 7. Nice...

    Kia Soul EV

I would consider a used Leaf (2012+ model) or a lease. When the Bolt and the 3 hits the market in any quantity the current generation cars will sink like the proverbial stone. A nice lease deal (shop around) or a used Leaf with a good battery is preferable. Good thing about a used Leaf is that...

Is now the right time to order a 70D?

I would wait until the 31st of March. See the 3 unveiling and then order. Just to be safe. Also it gives you time to shop around for a nice CPO car.

Elon says Model 3 will release first as highly optioned.

Since our government thought it would be a great idea to tax electric cars over the next five year I'm probably not going to be able to get a Model 3. Even though I would prefer to downsize from our S to a fully loaded 3. The S really is too big for most of Europe. Way too wide, it doesn't fit...

Nissan IDS Concept : Next Gen Leaf like with 60 kWh Battery

Perhaps I'm a simple man, but I would really really like for them to stop building electric-semi-weirdmobiles like the Leaf and just create a nice lasting design. This in my opinion is what is holding the Leaf back. It's just a little weird looking and with electric blue accents it comes of as...

85 kWh battery removed from design studio

It's gone in Denmark too. I'm mostly sad about the loss of RWD since I much prefer that over AWD. I hope that the 3 will be RWD :)

Does auto lane change work for y'all?

There is a problem with auto-lane change at the moment. So far this has been the most reliable part of the autopilot package for me. But after the latest firmware update it goes haywire. The dash indicates that there is a clear lane to change into. So hand on the wheel, set the blinker and now...

Looking Forward to the Model 3 Debut

Yes please, I love the alcantara headliner. The excitement about the 3 has reached a boiling point in my small circle of friends. Everybody who has ever tried our S is waiting, saving money and praying that they can afford the Model 3.

Looking Forward to the Model 3 Debut

I think we will see a "standard 17" MCU" in the Model 3. It just makes economic sense for Tesla to keep building the same unit just in ever greater numbers. The software is written and amortized over the S and the X. So essentially Tesla can give it away for "free" with the 3. I think nav...

Do you plan to reserve a Model 3?

I would love to replace my S with a tricked out Model 3. But with our current tax structure that seems unlikely to happen. Our country has just put a stiff (and getting stiffer) tax on BEV's so my tax-free Model S might be the last BEV for a long long time. Sad really because the Model S is a...

    BMW i6 Crossover

Better late than never. But let's see them ship it before we rejoice. The numbers in the article don't add up at all. They would probably need around 100 kWh of batteri to do a 300 mile range on an SUV. If somebody had a volume production battery with 3 times the energy density of the panasonic...

EV living: having to drive an ICE for a day

I still suspect that my Model saves me time over the course of a year. If I have to stop regularly at a pump I will spend X*Y minutes a year to do so. (X=amount of pump stops, Y time it takes). With the Model S the same formula becomes (A*365ish + (B*C)) where A is 10 seconds spent at home to...

Tesla Says Model 3 Will Be On Sale 2017 Alongside Chevy Bolt

It's been mentioned in the thread that Tesla could save on costs by shrinking the touchscreen from 17" to 12-13". I'm wondering if that might not be more expensive than just reusing the same unit from the S and the X. Consider that with a shrink in the touchscreen you have to design the...

For Techies: What size server, etc., will TM need to handle Model 3 reservations?

If I were to build that system I would probably make it a simple "contact details, credit card processing and done" page. Later the reservations can be moved to the logistics/manufacturing databases for processing. Honestly even if they have 500.000 reservations on the first day it works out to...

Chevy Bolt is Ugly, Model 3 Still Poised to outsell if Attractively Designed

This really could be a deal-breaking EV. If only Chevrolet would bring it to Europe I predict it would sell like hotcakes.

How long do you plan on keeping your Tesla?

If possible I would keep it for 15+ years. With battery upgrades along the way. But I might be tempted to switch to a Model 3 simply due to size of the S. I Would love to buy a car that I could keep for life. Simply buy 1 car and then have the car problem be solved for good.

Door pockets, biowarfare airfilter and better headlights. And a size shrink, its too big. But that will be fixed with the Model 3.

    Specuwaiting.....

You are correct, I just did the math again and somehow I got messed up on aH and kWh. Given X amount of cells you get Y kWh out of them no matter the configuration. My apologies, a lower voltage pack would have the same kWh as a higher voltage pack. The only thing you balance is how much current...

    Specuwaiting.....

--- Authors note: I screwed up on the math. Yggdrasill is correct. I have left my post for completeness. ---- Actually I understand quite well how batteries work and how packs are designed. Specuwaiting.....

Acceleration comes from the from a combination of pack voltage and how many amps you can draw from the pack. At the moment tesla uses around 400 volts on their current pack design. If memory serves there are 16 modules in series in the pack with each having 6 groups of cells. Now when they...

VERY close call today on snowy/icy Interstate 40

First of all as a resident of a snowy country let me say that I am happy to hear that you and your family are all right. That could have gone badly wrong. Second throw those Primacy tires in the trash where they belong. All-Weather/Year tires are a scam. They are not great summer tires and...

Worst moment since owning my S

Seriously, if conditions are that bad and you don't have winter tires it is dangerous to go any further. I would suggest holing up in a cozy motel and wait for the weather to clear and the power to come back on. The weather can be dangerous and snow storms are among the real killers. Don't...

My Model S Never Gets This Kind of Attention! -The BMW i8 :(

I have driven it and it feels like a dinosaur compared to a Model S. I will admit that it is a good looking dinosaur at this point even though the rear-end looks like it swallowed a 911. If they had left out that stupid gasoline engine and just filled the floor with batteries it would have...

3+ hour drive with auto pilot

I've had the same experience. I activated the autopilot when I drove onto the motorway in Flensburg, Germany. I deactivated it when I reached Odense two hours later. It is brilliant when it works but I do miss it when it rains or is otherwise unavailable.
