40amp Single Phase wall charger info

As others have mentioned the dual charger option should really be listed in the specs if the car has it, but failing that finding a public 22kW destination charger and plugging in is likely the easiest way to be sure. In fact plugging into a 3-phase charger of any sort might be sufficient, as...

40amp Single Phase wall charger info

Preparing to be proven wrong twice in one thread, but i don't think dual chargers were ever standard, always an option. And chargers changed completely sometime between 2015 and 2022 (at facelift if I recall) to the newer models capable of 17.5kW (no longer any 22kW option). :) The 17.5kW might...

40amp Single Phase wall charger info

I didn't think they ever had the US single phase HPWCs out here. I suspect it's just the normal 3-phase original HPWC that came with cars in 2015. So it can supply up to 22kW 3-phase or 7kW single phase. Manual attached so you can check it. The car of course is limited to 11kW unless it had the...

Tesla app unable to wake car

I contacted Tesla service and they confirmed they have a fleet-wide issue caused by a 'third party provider'. Supposedly this provider is working on an 'immediate solution' but no ETA.... Thankyou Telstra, again.

Tesla app unable to wake car

Been consistently unable to wake for days now for me. Really pretty poor, especially if it's the same Telstra issue as before.

    OTR service station EV charging

I used to be flabbergasted by that sort of thing, then I realised that some people have good reasons for not being able to leave the house, and delivery services are a boon to them regardless of the distance involved. But there's also the lazy ones... More on topic, I see several OTRs on the...

    BP Pulse Network

The fact that 'they' (everyone) keep on rolling out chargers with half their capacity dedicated to ChaDeMo is just ridiculous. ChaDeMo is a dead standard and wasting capacity on it is a massive lost opportunity.

Gen2 UMC plus tail is NOT a road trip plan A

If the article is about the downside of charging in remote ;locations away from grid power then the title should reflect that. It's nothing to do with the adaptor.

    Powering up the Princes Highway

Someone on plugshare claims the council has advised them (in response to a query) that Orbost and Cann River chargers are due to be finished mid-September. Any locals seen evidence of progress to that extent?

    Tesla Software Update

It's weird that this only applies to 3 and Y when all S and X have the capability to do this as well (and do so all the time in AP).

Tesla Model S/X Charger upgrade email

You can tell in plugshare from the quoted power level, 120kW are the old V2 sites, V3 sites will (should) be quoted as 250kW, and mostly will note that they are CCS2 only in the description. But there's no single list of each type.

No connectivity for a few minutes after starting car

I have this exact issue and it also started after MCU2 upgrade. It's clearly a software bug from my observation of the behaviour. The car is failing to wake up under some circumstances (making it unreachable by the app at times) and then sometimes takes many minutes to re-establish connectivity...

    NRMA fast charging network

50kW DC units are $35-40k I believe. A type 2 11-22kW is a fraction of that and could be installed plugged in to a 3ph socket rather than hard wired (as they do at some of the RACV resorts). Even a parallel 3ph socket would add little extra.
  16. lennier

    NRMA fast charging network

Yes the simplest and cheapest approach any network operator could take to mitigating risk with single stall chargers would be to add a type 2 or 32A 3ph (preferably both) as part of the installation. Minimal additional site cost for a whole lot of benefit.
  17. lennier

    NRMA fast charging network

I don't think congestion will be an issue at any of the sites I'm interested in, it's just the circumstance of unresolvable charger faults that I'm trying to hedge against (in the relatively short term).
  18. lennier

    NRMA fast charging network

Yep. Just wanted to make it clear that the reasons for them using the NRMA charger were irrelevant, it was the circumstance of the charger failure (seemed ok from plugshare, no resolution possible etc) that were relevant and problematic in terms of planning a trip that would have to rely on...

    NRMA fast charging network

I wasn't using the Hume as an example, I was pointing out if this sort of problem occurred in the regional towns I was considering that have no backup options then you'd be in trouble. Clearly as you point out on the Hume you have a lot of options and ending up relying on an NRMA charger is a...

    NRMA fast charging network

Case in point here. Someone was coming down the Hume last night and diverted to the Holbrook NRMA because of the inclement weather making it dodgy to reach Wodonga. Plugshare had someone charging on it earlier in the day but when they got there it had an Error 22 on it and that was that. No...

    NRMA fast charging network

I would have been surprised. However high power DC to DC would be perfectly feasible at decent kW ratings if they really wanted to. Just didn't think you wouldn't have been suggesting a tow truck for the obvious reason of getting towed. Haven't done that in 6 years and don't intend to start now :)

Are they carrying top-up batteries these days to do VtV charges for EVs?
  23. lennier

    NRMA fast charging network

Thanks, that's pretty much what I figured. Certainly looking to have backups of course but for some of the towns I'm looking at there's literally nothing other than perhaps a caravan park 15A! Hopefully if we can see a problem ahead we can potentially change route and avoid really slow charges.

    NRMA fast charging network

Other than monitoring for posts here, is there any live information available on the status of NRMA chargers? I'm more concerned with out of order situations than whether they're free or not.

Can't get a Model S to Hotham/Dinner Plain legally in winter

Yes as I mentioned way back there is no problem fitting normal chains to the rear wheels of an S, there's plenty of clearance. There was misinformation kicking around in the early days about there not being enough space but that was referring to the front wheels. I know of at least one S driver...

Lost power for 5mins today (just now) - PowerWall2 keeps us up....

Yes you can. We run this way with a super off-peak overnight rate when we charge the car and the powerwall automatically tops itself up (mostly completely, sometimes less based on its learning algorithms). Coupled with solar (only 5kW and non-optimal) the majority of our grid consumption is this...

Driving round Australia on Route 1

There are no symptoms for the flash-related MCU failures, they just stop one day. Those sorts of display corruptions are normally just software problems cured by resets but can of course also indicate an underlying hardware issue, especially if they recur frequently.
  29. lennier

Advice on Powerwall for new build?

That's doing pretty well. We get almost nothing from our 5kW array in this sort of weather! PW2 and ToU charging are still worth considering even in the absence of solar I think, depending on individual circumstances. We don't generate enough to be even close to off-grid (especially with car...

Personally I'd be very surprised if both were charging, regardless of what some Tesla staff member may have said. How good are Tesla’s in Australia’s extreme heat?

YMMV but my S has been set on Auto and a fixed temperature for nearly 5 years and driven in everything from sub zero to 45 degrees. Tesla's 2020 Supercharger expansion ignores Australia

    MCU upgrade/replacement for early vehicles

Yes that workaround indicates that it's definitely a bug not a performance or optimisation issue. So you basically press it once to activate and immediately again to end, then normal operation from then on until the car is restarted? Also I've had an update since then so need to test if 40.2 is...

I'm glad I'm not going mad, I'd noticed recently how crap the voice stuff had become. 2019.40.2 - got smart summon & ‘hands off’ summon

Supercharger - Great Ocean Road VIC

I really hope if this finally goes ahead that they manage to find somewhere in the Anglesea to Lorne region as they had originally indicated. Torquay is not an ideal location and with Chargefox there now it would be great to have an alternative in a different location.

With superchargers ~200km apart there is no issue with long distance travel at legal speeds. My S barely has more rated range than the base Model 3 and I've never had a problem with long distance travel, on the relatively few occasions we do that.
