What did you park next to? (Or what makes the Roadster look tiny?)

113 after leaving the North Houston Service Center with a brand new R80 pack. Stopped in front of 12 Cybertrucks at the Cypress Service Center on the way home ;)

    Saggy chins

Not an issue with a properly executed layup. I use eight layers of 2 aerospace grade fabrics. 12K 2x2 twill on the visible layers for cosmetics. Zoltek 50K quadaxial fabric in between. Same stuff is used in wind turbine blades, so it should be fine supporting a front spoiler and undertray ;)...

Both of my cars have had their brackets break, so I fabricated a replacement in carbon fiber - https://eggplantfab.com/product/front-chin-bracket/

    VIN 1227 Introduction

Welcome to TMC, and wow!! So excited to see it on 1227. Perfectly complements the exterior and interior carbon accents! As far as events, we had an epic meetup in August 2022 at Unplugged Performance in Hawthorne. Over 25 cars showed up from CA, WA, and TX. Hopefully we can make it happen again...

Hardtops and other clear carbon fiber parts now in production

Latest project - recreating the upper door sills, AKA "waterfalls". In the process, I've recreated these inserts that Tesla never made in carbon fiber. I noticed that on the 1.5s, the "cubby" is raw textured plastic while the 2.x's got a felt liner. Question for the community - if this was to go...

Hardtops and other clear carbon fiber parts now in production

I've actually had this project on the back burner for a while. One of my cars has a torn rear mudflap, and I've noticed several other Roadsters with ripped or very worn pieces. Replacements in carbon fiber would be much more durable and look nicer (in my opinion). Here is a rough prototype piece...

Report: 3.0 pack upgrade now $40k

On the plus side, they're cranking them out faster now. #113's original pack had a brick go bad at the beginning of July, so I got in line for the 3.0. They told me then that it would be 6-12 months just to get the pack built. Received a voicemail from Tesla earlier this afternoon. There's an...

Hardtops and other clear carbon fiber parts now in production

Just finished a 100% clear hardtop for a customer with a Radiant Red 2.5. Somewhere between sanding the 3rd and 4th coats of clear on the interior side, I was slightly regretting offering the option. Lots of details to get right when fabric headliner isn't hiding them. But after finally seeing...

    Roadster 3.0

I'm currently in line for one, as of July 6th. They said 6-12 months for it to be assembled and ready for installation. From what I understand, you can't just order one because you want it. It's only available as a fix to a dead or dying pack. They no longer do sheet swaps on original packs...

Road trip! Looking for charging help in Erie, PA and Buffalo, NY

Looks exactly like what @Frisco-Dad did last year - Epic Road Trip. I've been considering getting a tow rig to take Roadsters to events. Truck transport is $$$$ and I enjoy adventures like this. Thanks for sharing!

    Difference between 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 Sport, 2.5 Base and 3.0

For North America: 1.5 -> VIN 500 and below 2.0 -> VIN 501 - 963 2.5 -> 964+ A Sport will have badging on the rear and sides. Base has none. 3.0 is a nebulous term that simply means the car received the R80 battery upgrade at some point post-delivery. It's possible for a 1.5 car to get the R80...

Hardtops and other clear carbon fiber parts now in production

I've actually thought about making a "fat top" that sits about 8-12 inches taller than OEM and has integrated storage space ;). Maybe someday down the road. Knowing what I know now about the hardtop, I'd be worried about attaching anything to it that can significantly increase drag. The forward...

Hardtops and other clear carbon fiber parts now in production

Thanks again to everyone for the ongoing support. The hardtop brackets have been the hottest item so far - I'm completely out and need to make more! A few people have reached out with ideas on parts they'd like to see. Here's a peek at some of the latest parts in the works. None are listed on...

Hardtops and other clear carbon fiber parts now in production

It has been almost a year since I fabricated my first prototype hardtop and posted about it. I haven't posted much about it since, but it has been an almost nonstop effort to get from a prototype to a production grade top. Getting a repeatable process down took many hours of work and thousands...

Old Roadster pack is recovering after going below CAC 76?

Is this the immersion sensor error? You can unplug the sensor and it goes away. Though you do have to remove the pack and get the front cover off first.

    Tesla Quits Service on Roadsters!!

    Jay Leno 2008 Roadster VIN?

I've never seen Elon's car in person to read the VIN, but I have seen Martin's and can confirm it is F2. Martin said something about how his car should've been F1 but Elon got his way. Therefore, Elon's car is Founder's Edition #1 of 27 ;).

    Lost Power Brakes

I finally found some time to install one of my new pumps from @EV Support UK. Top picture shows the new pump on the left vs (broken) OEM on the right. Slight differences in the design, but the new pump performs at least as well as OEM! Sounds and feels just the same. Highly recommend picking one...

    Inner toe links

I tried these same links a few years ago, and ended up selling them on the Lotus forum. They were super high quality and I wanted to make them work, but I wasn't confident in the modifications that would be required. The Roadster rear subframe is completely different from the Elise's. Elise...

I've been keeping a list of everyone interested so far. Just let me know and I'll add you. Lost Power Brakes

Want to buy: Roadster Tow Hitch

For what it's worth, I had an EcoHitch for transporting bikes and removed it after discovering the SeaSucker system. I wanted something that could be used on multiple cars without requiring modification. Was skeptical of the vacuum cups at first, but they work! This is their 2 bike rack...

For the price paid, those look to be a very good value. If you're happy with them, that's all that matters! From a fabrication perspective, it appears they molded each side in one piece and bonded the mounting tabs on the back. You can see the lines and texture from the peel ply. My housings...

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I was able to get the "T2" OEM 295/30/21s, through a friend with a wholesale account. Only difference I could find between it and the original "T1" tire was an additional sensor with BlueTooth connectivity, for use with Michelin's track app.

Do I risk bending my trunk panel if the right side won't latch?

I've been having the same problem with a front hood latch (same part). It'll release on the highway and the hood will bounce up and down on that side. No damage though. The trunk is made from carbon fiber, so it'll break before it loses its shape. I'd try taping it down with green painters tape...

Wanted a refresh spoiler on my wife's LR, so I created a mold and popped this out today... This is just a test fit after rough trimming. Made a carbon fiber hard top

Fresh out of the mold this morning. This one uses a spread tow 12K fabric, making it slightly different from OEM but looks great. Especially from further away - the characteristic twill line is more visible. I've registered an LLC and will have a website up soon to process orders.
