Euro crash tester says carmakers must return to physical controls - Impact on Australia?

Yes they are a profit company as are AAATourism that do hotel ratings and SAI Global that do australian standards. So are the various energy rating companies. There is no emotion or influence in a car ancap checklist, and they are broken down into plenty of detail to try and cover the field...

Euro crash tester says carmakers must return to physical controls - Impact on Australia?

Ratings system are typically binary to try and remove human interpretation or bias, so if the seat anchor isnt 100% identical to that tested then it gets scored zero and zero on anchors means no rating. Logically a missing cap isnt relevant to safety, but the binary nature of the testing means...

Euro crash tester says carmakers must return to physical controls - Impact on Australia?

A quick check of the detailed percentage shows polestar 2 is exactly equal to model 3, byd seal slightly below, and merc eqe slight above. There is no brand that stands out way ahead of anyone else. Tesla certainly does not but they are in the top group. The ratings are available online in...

Euro crash tester says carmakers must return to physical controls - Impact on Australia?

I do not have the skill or desire to waste cash doing crash testing to check my own protection, so yes I rely on ancap results in buying a car. There is no way I can know that the impact qualities are superior by simply driving the car. There is zero chance of me buying below 5 star ancap.

Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

VOC is not a product or brand that you buy off the shelf and add. They are environmentally damaging chemicals used to make products you buy off the shelf. Those that care about the environment search for products with no voc’s. This is why car paints are now typically water based, as the paint...

Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

Yeah I dont think the anti-freeze is an issue for us in Adelaide, I was more bemused that tesla are encouraging the use of voc’s whilst inisting we can only have vegan ‘leather’ on environmental grounds.
  12. P

Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

That confuses me somewhat. Tesla claim to be environmental evangelists, or at least elon musk does, and then they produce a windscreen cleaning system that seems to not work so well with cleaners that do not contain VOC’s. I would have thought reducing VOC’s would be a far stronger outcome for...

    Toyota Bz4X

Yes thats the place, with all the homeless sleeping around the cars to get use of the free bus station bathroom
  14. P

    Toyota Bz4X

Just co-incidental, but the first supercharger stall in the adelaide CBD would line up perfectly with the toyota charge port. Probably the only one in Australia though
  15. P

    Toyota Bz4X

I think tesla went backward after AP1. It was a decent bulletproof lanekeeping and TACC system. More recent model S have superior handling, but not superior autopilot.
  16. P

    Toyota Bz4X

I doubt toyota conisdered tesla in making the decision on where to place it’s charge port

Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

I dont really know why we need an internal render of the status of our brake light. It will not change when or how I apply brakes, and I know the brakes are working because the vehicle slows. Seeing a render of a turning wheel baffles me just as much. They all seem like pointless distractions...

    Toyota Bz4X

That would explain why the tesla tacc, lane keeping, wipers, and voice system are so ordinary/flakey
  19. P

    Toyota Bz4X

The brake lights come on during heavy regeneration. It does not mean the brakes are on. Regen is a form of braking.

Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

The original non-tesla system that was very reliable definately did voice learning. The tesla in-house version…no…it is basic. It does not learn.

You can buy these for a one off price of $10 or thereabouts (pay again whenever you update) and upload them into almost all modern navigation systems (except tesla). They even give you lifetime free updates if you advise them of a new camera and are the first to do so. They go in as waypoints.

Ceramic coating has locked in light car wash scratches

In my experience…if the owner of the company isnt super pasionate about his/her work then go elsewhere, and if they wont tell you the name of the coating go elsewhere. Once you have the coating name ask on here or any other similar forum about experinces with that product. If the owner is...

Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

I have a vague recollection of one of these for memory on findon road as my grandparents were western dwellers. We would go there sometimes when visiting them in Adelaide. I’m not a native adelaidian though, born and grew up in country nsw and headed to adelaide to study at university for my...

Ceramic coating has locked in light car wash scratches

Before ceramic coating you need to have the paint ‘corrected’, which is a full decontamination and polish. It takes at least one day, longer if a dark colour. If you got a cheap price then this was not done. Microscratches make the car look dull, and a proper place will proudly show you under...

Laws in australia about delivering what you promise are reasonably strong
  34. P

    Car Insurance Options

Yep its a tesla thing. My new eqe ev is worth 3 times the insurance replacement cost of the model S, and the premiums are $20 different. Same nominated drivers, same garage.

Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

Throw on an american accent and it works great, otherwise it’s rubbish. The previous non-tesla version was amazing though, but that was taken away.
  36. P

I've enagaged lawyers in an attempt to recover FSD cost (Australian owner)

The bad news is tesla have a team of in-house lawyers in australia (you can question why they need that) They will respond and drag it out until you realise the amount you are paying your lawyer is not worth it.
  37. P

    Location Coordinates from Tesla NAV

Equally there is so much that a toyota does not do but a good ev does. I dont think there is a car on the planet that provides everything that everyone wants.

Euro crash tester says carmakers must return to physical controls - Impact on Australia?

You could try creating the hard evidence. Next time you do a tight reverse park, you could try to do it without looking at your screen. Will be an interesting experiment.
  39. P

Euro crash tester says carmakers must return to physical controls - Impact on Australia?

I noticed he has to look at the screen and stretch out his arm every gear change. He is looking down whilst the car is moving so not looking at the road during that time. Indeed his hand is so unstable he has to grip the screen to make contact. With a stalk you neither look away nor stretch out...

Euro crash tester says carmakers must return to physical controls - Impact on Australia?

Every ev I have owned has had a gear change stalk on the right. I do not need to look at it or take my hand off the wheel to change gears

I suspect you are right, and as someone who loves driving I wont be lining up for one should it eventuate.

    Mustang mach-e

I’ve observed nothing but dealer and big brand negativity on ev in my decade of tesla ownership. This isn’t new.
  43. P

Euro crash tester says carmakers must return to physical controls - Impact on Australia?

Typically people on forums like this one are overwhelmingly positive about their cars. I suspect the percentage of owners on here is small. I also think demanding that cars remain ‘traditional’ is ridiculous. The issue I have with touchscreens is I need my glasses on to see the information. No...

Euro crash tester says carmakers must return to physical controls - Impact on Australia?

Motorbikes dont have giant screens that you have to look left and down at. Definately not justifying or agreeing with ancap, but the two modes of transport are very different.

My data will confuse enphase. For some reason the powerwalls prevent the enphase data properly processing so I rely on the tesla data, stored by tesla…Is that a catch as well?

Euro crash tester says carmakers must return to physical controls - Impact on Australia?

There are lots of stupid laws (based on opinion) in Australia presumably to help those that need help. Some of them are seriously frustrating. I dont think I have ever looked at what direction my selector says it is in (unless it will not move) but groups such as elderly, learners, new car...

National and State Renewable Energy stats

I’ve referred a lot of people onto enphase micro’s. None have had issues. I know a lot of people with failure of their single invertors, including one that caught fire in my street. Mine are coastal mounted and covered in a crustly salt spray, so probably about as harsh as it gets.
