This truck design had better be a joke....

Form is going to take some getting used to, but this looks totally like some of the futuristic crazy vehicles we see in sci-fi movies. Function is checking all the boxes for me. I love the dent resistant panels. No paint to chip, no rock chip damage to worry about. Nothing to rust. Damn. If...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

All I know is that my 2015 screen showed no signed of yellowing for two years, then it had tab bond failure and got replaced. The new screen yellowed within six months, but no tab bond failure so maybe the yellow glue is better? I guess I can just wait until they come up with a more permanent...

Service Bulletin out on Hard Acceleration "Shudder"

Our 2015 shudders under hard acceleration when the suspension is High or Very High. Doesn't shudder at Normal, so I guess this is a different issue? Service center always tells me not to accelerate on High, but GPS ride height puts it up to High near one of my freeway onramps for good reason...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

I started noticing the yellow screens on loaner vehicles a couple years ago. But our 2015 did not have this problem so I didn't care. Until our screen died and we got a replacement. Within six months, we had a yellow border on our screen. This seems to be a systemic problem. I sent Tesla a...

What does driving a P+L actually feel like?

I've driven a ton of loaner Model S cars from the 75 up through the P85D and honestly they all feel the same for daily acceleration. They're all quick of the line compared to ICE cars. The 19" vs 21" wheels make more of a difference in daily "feel" since our P90DL tracks on rails and doesn't...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I see a lot of people estimating their range based on the readout when fully charged. That's a very misleading estimate. If you really want to know how your battery pack is aging, you have to charge to 100% and then drive it down to near 0% before charging. This is best done on a road trip so...

New Maps Update - Still Don't Have it?!

We got the new maps a few weeks ago and I'm not impressed. Turn by turn has made a couple mistakes that the old system did not. The larger fonts on display are helpful I suppose, but overall this is ranging from meh to wtf?

2018.12 has ruined the audio system

If you want to blow speakers and amps, keep adjusting that EQ up. Remember, you can adjust EQ down to accomplish the same effect. I'm generally -3db midrange and +3db base/treble instead of +6db bass/treble. I guess I haven't noticed that they cut me back from ±12db to ±8db because I never make...

    screen discoloration

I have had two loaners recently that both had this discoloration. Our Dec-2015 MS never showed any, but we just had the screen replaced for tab-bond failure so we have a new MCU and I'll have to keep an eye on it. We garage our car so it isn't out in the sun all day, I wonder if that's related...

CP0 "normal wear and tear" question

These are normal used car issues. Leather seats are really resistant to stains and smells, but show wear very fast if not cared for. You may need to see it in person and if it bothers you, look for another model with better seats. Or buy new, which is a heavy premium to avoid some worn seats...

P for Performance or Party Trick

Bah. Compared to a high performance gas car, they are much more efficient. We get 380Wh/mi average with ours which is 88 MPGe, I believe. And that's with a lead foot! That's still way better energy efficiency than any gas powered vehicle. And we only charge it once a day (or every other day)...

I grabbed the torrent mentioned above. I'll seed as long as I can. Just browsed a few sections, this is fantastically detailed, far better than I expected.

P for Performance or Party Trick

I thought there was more to the performance upgrade than just a bigger motor. Specifically, I thought we got a stiffer suspension and staggered tires.

Soft knock sound from front of car- not drive

I have clearance issues with the front tires striking the wheel wheels, so I hear knocks and rubbing when in reverse at 3/4 turn or accelerating when the suspension is on High or Very High. Service center treated it as an alignment issue, but I suspect something isn't tightened down properly.

If you had $150k for a car, but the p100d didn't exist, what would you buy?

I'd have to seriously consider a McLaren. But we needed a family car and the Tesla was a hybrid of super-car and family-car that just isn't possible with anything else. Maybe a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S would have been okay.

    California drivers: HOV sticker tips?

We can't get CHP out to stop a drunk/distracted driver. No way are they going to intercept a sticker-less car in HOV because someone called 911. There are too many. Plus legit carpoolers. The only people who get stopped in HOV are the ones unlucky enough to pass a CHP while non-compliant.

    Destroyed by Audi RS4

No. Under the speed limit nothing touches the P90D. Above the speed limit, it depends on levels of driver insanity. Someone chickens out first.

    Anyone using plugless?

With the Tesla's range being 200+ miles vs. our daily driving of 30-60 miles we can afford to forget to plug it in for a couple days. It's not that big of a deal.

Anyone NOT buying the extended warranty?

I'm setting aside $0.08 per mile so when the 4-year, 50k mile warranty is up, I'll have choices. I'll either buy the extended warranty, or keep saving $0.08 per mile which gives me $8k over the first 100k miles to work with. I figure either way I'll have cash in pocket when eight years are up.

    Firmware 7.1

SomeJoe7777, you might want to try some slightly different settings. I use: Bass: +1.5 Mid: -6.0 Treble: 0.0 Dolby: On Balance: 0 Fade: -3 I sit leaned back pretty far, which is why I moved the fader back to -3. Not sure that's the right spot. The upgraded HiFi is definitely bright which is...

New Tesla Model S Lease as of 5/1/16

Tesla needs capital for R&D and to expand production. If they did their own financing, they would be sinking capital into your lease expecting a 1.5% rate of return which sucks. They can mint money much fast than that by spending a couple billion to bang out 500k Model 3 pre-orders in two years...

Warnings, More Warnings and then car "Unable to Drive"

It's difficult to advise since all that might have happened is a wiring harness came loose and the computer lost touch with a bunch of sensors. Assuming Tesla fixes it and returns it to you, you'll have to regain some confidence in the car by driving it. However, you've already experienced the...

Why does there seem to be so many salvaged cars?

Repair costs on unibody vehicles are high because you cannot unbolt a panel, straighten the frame and bolt a new panel on. They are more complicated to repair and thus more costly. Getting it totaled out is probably better than living with one that's been half-assed repaired and has problems you...

Feature Ask: I want variable wiper frequency

Our Model S is too sensitive on the lowest automatic wiper setting. It starts out about once every two seconds in very light rain, but then speeds up to once per second or even faster. I have to turn it off/on frequently to reset. Lately, I'm leaving it off and just pressing the button every...

Dual engine shut down on freeway. Anyone else?

We had a front drive unit fail on our second day of ownership back in December 2015. Got the alert, said power would be diminished, but we were only doing 25mph. We pulled over, called Tesla, did a reboot, everything was fine. Service called the next day and said it was a fault in the front...

    L or no L?

You have to buy what you are going to be happy with. Tell your Sales Advisor and request test drives of the 90D P90D and P90DL. Annual service price increased by 50%

I was all ready to grab my pitchfork until I did the math and saw that it still averages out at $600 per year. They're just making it less expensive for the years when you don't require the full service. I kinda like that--and am more likely to go in because of it. While you may see it that...

Wait, so are rear-facing seats retrofittable or not?

When I heard that the third row seats required bumper reinforcement I realized you were giving up the rear crumple zone for an extra two child seats. No thanks. Those crumple zones serve a purpose for the other five passengers when you get rear-ended. And I would hate to think how much...

Swapping wheels: 1 or 2 jack stands?

Lots of recommendations to only use the hydraulic jack for changing wheels, but since you have jack point stands, just set it down in the stand for safety. Hydraulics can leak and even if you are not under the car, coming down fast on the rotor while the wheel is off can do damage to the car or...

    Repairing a Flooded Tesla Model S : HOW-TO

PG&E Charging - Solar and EV

When I was investigating Solar, I heard many different stories about the way PG&E buys back the daytime power. The solar sales rep claims that they pay market rate during the day (roughly $0.36/KWh) and then you buy it back for cheap at night, which multiplies the KWh you generate during the day...

6 wheels bent now.. anyone else?

New to the forum - have i ordered to right car?

You're going to hear a ton of recommendations to go with 19" wheels. They're right. But I love the 21" wheels on our car. I recommend the upgraded sound system. It give you a bit more bass and fills in the sound nicely compared to the tinny default system. Many will say that you can buy better...
