    Wiki Model 3 Reveal Event Coverage (3/31/16) 8:30PM PST - Discussion/Pictures/Video

I just wanted to reply to point out that if the rear center passenger is ever launched into the console on any car, you've already failed the test. I don't know of any testing agency that expects unrestrained rear passengers to be safe in the event of a serious collision.

    300+ Mile Model 3?

No offense, but if you can't afford a $35k car, why do you have a thread where you count down every day until the unveiling of a $35k car? You do you tho

Free Power Wall from Free Power? Math.. didn't work for me :(

Yeah your calculations are good. In fact, you give the Powerwall a little too much credit. As Evbwcaer said, it's not clear if the 1500 kWh/month number is the total electricity consumed, or just the electricity you pay for (the stuff during the day). Also, you're gonna need a rectifier as well...

Can powerwall be setup for off grid with natural gas backup?

Obviously I don't know your situation, but I'd be careful about going off-grid. I saw someone on here mention a case where a woman used solar panels and batteries to totally disconnect from the grid, and because of that her house was condemned as unlivable. As I said, I really do not know your...

    70D and 90D performance

I'm pretty sure that experience was rather rare, and people who have asked to upgrade batteries since have been told a flat-out no.

What battery sizes will Tesla offer with the Model 3?

I'm not so sure about that. Remember, they've talked about moving to more steel and less aluminum. If they were to just talk the Model S and scale it down to .80 scale (which they've said they won't), each dimension would only be scaled down to the cube root of .80, and the front surface area...

    300+ Mile Model 3?

When I was walking through the dorm parking lot this morning I saw a Porsche Cayman S, so apparently some can.

Bonnie's Xcellent Adventure w/X Sig 2 - Config, Delivery, Roadtrip

Bonnie, Maybe I missed it, and I know I shouldn't be pestering you, but... how did the bee move go? Are they happy in their new home?

    300+ Mile Model 3?

What college kid can afford a new $35k car but can't afford gas or grabbing a bite to eat every once in a while?

Should Tesla move M3 reservations to a realistic time closer to actual release?

I know this is from a little while ago, but I think this is totally wrong. I believe the main selling point has been and will continue to be the quietness, the space, the huge center console, the low running costs and limited maintenance, etc. Basically, the fact that it's an electric car, and a...

What battery sizes will Tesla offer with the Model 3?

You remembered correctly! I think that chart is pretty telling. I suspect something more like 60, 75, and 90. The high end of that would allow for a jaw-dropping 300 miles of "real world" range or

We want some Model 3 Leaks, renders, sketches !

Did they forget the mirrors? This might just be for the teaser, but if Hyundai actually believe they can sell a car with no side mirrors, that bodes well for Tesla's ability to do the same with the Model 3.

    What does 35K get me?

I was watching a talk from JB Straubel today and I noticed a graph showing vehicle production and battery consumption. The point of the graph is to show that the world doesn't have enough Li-ion supply, but I noticed that it also gives some rather specific numbers — in 2020 Tesla believes...

    Switched Reluctance motors

Does this mean that you could just drop the AC inverter, or would you likely need some sort of DC-DC converter between the battery and an SR motor?

    Lo-Drag: Cd < 0.2

I think Colsla's idea might have been that the door handles will work like the front doors on the X, but the ability for the car to detect your presence and open the door for you, instead of responding to a press on the handle, would be in a tech package. At least, I think that's likely, though...

FAQ: Home Tesla charging infrastructure Q&A

Thanks for the great Q&A! This whole thread is filled with really interesting stuff that I don't understand at all, lol. I'd like to make sure I understand what you were saying about extension cords. My dad and I visit my grandmother's house once or twice a year, and if our family got a Tesla...

    Displayed Range and Seasonality

See this is what confuses me - if rated range is different from actual projected range, why should it vary at all? I would have assumed rated range referred to the EPA rating, but that doesn't vary ever. I definitely agree that if a range meter is to be the most useful is has to reflect the...

A flight instructor teaches Tesla Autopilot

Papafox, thanks for the awesome instruction! I don't actually have a Tesla, but I have a couple questions anyways, if that's okay. 1) How much attention should one pay to the sensors? I know pilots of small planes generally conduct a walk-around, though I never figured out what kind of problems...

Wheel bolt hole pattern on X - Same as Model S?

Unless I'm missing something, I'm pretty sure the total diameter of the wheel + tire is larger on the X than the S, so your spare tire wouldn't even touch the ground, or else the car would drive very funny.

    Lo-Drag: Cd < 0.2

I'm not sure a more sloped hood would be possible, given today's stricter pedestrian safety standards.
