    Model 3 with 5 bikes

Also, the lines on the screen look like a mustache when the rack is mounted. Silence the backup sensors alert and it’s all good. I’ve been carting mountain bikes around with our stealth hitch and a Saris freedom super clamp rack since August 2018 with no issues. Installing the stealth hitch...

    Cargo rack on aftermarket hitch?

Agreed on the supercharging logistics. We've been using a hitch bike rack for the last year, too. So far we have not used the bike rack or cargo rack on a trip that required supercharging. Some of the chargers around here have at least one pull in spot, but in the event they are full I am...

    Cargo rack on aftermarket hitch?

I'm happy to report that a cargo rack works great. Although I wouldn't take it offroading :) With the car fully loaded with camping gear to accommodate 4 people for 2 nights this particular rack had about 5 1/2" of clearance at the very back. I had to install and load it on the road because it...

    Cargo rack on aftermarket hitch?

Hey all, I'm one of those weirdos that tore apart the butt-end of my car and installed a TorkLift EcoHitch. I have been using it with a Saris 2 bike rack with no issues for almost a year. I am wondering if anyone has used a hitch mounted cargo rack to add a little capacity for camping and what...

Found: Uninstalled, Palletized Urban Sc, Minneapolis

Yup, they use it to charge new deliveries prior to owner appointments. Ironically, when I saw it in use last year it was hooked up to a giant diesel generator.

    Miles on a charge?

I have attached a picture of the charge screen in the car. The little white arrow on the right of the battery indicates my desired charge level is 100% and the current state of charge is 23%. This should illustrate what ewoodrick is describing. .

    Regenerative braking will be limited?

Pretty interesting discussion about this albeit for a Model S - https://www.quora.com/How-much-power-is-a-Tesla-model-S-capable-of-regenerating-to-the-batteries-when-the-motor-is-braking-or-going-downhill-What-is-the-limiting-factor-the-converter-motor-generator-batteries Seems like the "why"...

That could be. @OP, can you post a pic of the charge screen and indicated range?

    Miles on a charge?

When we fully charge in prep for a road trip we are around 308 indicated miles. 268 @ 100% seems way off. How many miles do you have on the car? If you JUST got it the calculations could be factoring higher than average Wh/mi numbers to come up with that number. For example, if someone...

    Regenerative braking will be limited?

Because the battery is too cold to accept regen charge, don't ask me to explain the science :) I am sure someone else has a dissertation on prior threads. To combat limited regen I use scheduled charging for 5:30 am and set the cap to 80%. Each morning when I leave home around 7 am the...

    Tow hitch bike rack?

Saris makes great products and has outstanding customer support. We have two Freedom Superclamp racks and love them. None that I have seen. Having installed the ecohitch myself I can attest that it is well built and bolted right on with no drama. Unwrapping the bumper will be the most...

My Model 3 Ownership Experience thread

Round 2 - Ordering Experience. Like many of you, I waited in line to reserve on day 1. From that point forward I spent countless hours reading about what was to come, researching other Tesla options, test driving, etc. I connected with the local Tesla owner group and asked lots of questions...

Is it worth upgrading the charging station?

We have a GE EVSE that works great for our Leaf. We had planned to use it with the Model 3 but when we tested it with a friend's car it would not start charging. We tested with a second Model 3 with no luck. Tesla support was miffed and we never figured it out. This same EVSE worked to...

Will there be a delivery sprint to the end of the quarter?

They have been sitting on my order for 9 weeks now. Feels more like a marathon building up to a Jell-O legs stumble over the finish line . I'm not real in tune with their historical patterns, but it seems like trying to cram US deliveries in the weekend before 4th of July could result in a...

    Order estimate pushed back

I'm with you, too. Ordered 4/4/18 just got the "almost there, June will.be magic" email. Oh well, another month is two more paychecks toward the car fund. Maybe I'll get lucky and we'll get a heated steering wheel.. ninja style. In all seriousness, I'm a little bummed about the delay, but...

    What about the tow hitch?

Thanks for measuring. Our Leaf has 10" clearance for a 1" receiver. We don't have a steep driveway by any means so we'll see how the shorty model 3 does.
  23. JCLeonard

    What about the tow hitch?

Anyone with the hitch installed have a moment to take this measurement? (I am still waiting for a car to install the hitch on..) Thanks!

    What about the tow hitch?

Looks like the nut situation has been remedied. Replacement flange nuts came preinstalled on the 6 lugs for attaching the crash bar to the hitch. We opted for the 2" version, the bolt that affixes the removable receiver takes a 15/16" socket. Dang, this thing is beefy. From what I can gather...

    What about the tow hitch?

Would you mind measuring the height from the ground to the bottom of the receiver? I would like to compare to the heigof the receiver on our Leaf. Thanks!
  26. JCLeonard

    What about the tow hitch?

Seems like a pretty simple piece. I imagine someone fashion an adequate cover in a couple beer inspired evenings. We'll give it a go when the car and hitch arrive.

2018 Tesla Model 3 "Oreo" Build Thread

I share your thoughts, but we decided to cram our family in the 3 for a couple years while we wait for a healthier used X market. Who knows, maybe the Y will come along someday! @ahkim the X will haul your bike(s) around better, too! Don't lose sleep over it :)

2018 Tesla Model 3 "Oreo" Build Thread

Whaaat?! Is that a local owner looking to downsize? That's an interesting proposition. Our long term (2-3 years) plan is to replace our Leaf with a used X leaving us with a 3 and an X. I think the 6 seater is our ultimate goal, of course we could make a 5 seater work, tho. Sounds like you...

    What about the tow hitch?

Excellent. I reviewed the installation PDF they provided me and it looks pretty straightforward. Per usual, unwrapping the plastic to get the the crash bumper is the trickiest part. We will have Saris SuperClamp Freedom 2/4 racks mounted to this thing. Will report back with pictures when the...

    Tesla trade-in

This. The math is pretty straightforward and private sale is almost always better, unless you really dislike the process of private selling and eating the "loss" is worth it to you.

    What about the tow hitch?

We will have a bike rack installed in this receiver pretty much all summer. This is the final checkbox on our requirements for ordering the 3. :)

    What about the tow hitch?

Fantastic news. Thanks for posting. This was the last thing keeping us from committing to a Model 3 to replace our Leaf. We need to lug bikes around and prefer to do so on a receiver mounted rack.

Newbie charging question: parked outside, cable run under garage door

Sounds reasonable if you are planning to keep the charge head mounted on the exterior. We wrap ours up on the interior garage wall when we unplug so it was easier to just toss it on the floor under the door :)

Newbie charging question: parked outside, cable run under garage door

We run a level 2 evse cord under the door to charge our leaf year round in Minnesota. We have a foot long piece of scrap 1x2 oak flooring we put next to it to avoid crushing the cord. No issues so far, even when my wife forgets the scrap wood.

    The Problem with "Rare" cars

It's likely just a rant/observation of for sale ads that label something a unicorn in hopes of justifying a "premium" price. All good points in this thread that all boil down to a lesson I learned from my father, a real estate agent, many years ago: something is only worth what someone is...

Confirmed - Production ramp of 5,000/week delayed until late Q1 2018

I'm not sure I follow this. You want to pay more, net, for the car just to be able to use the tax credit? Or are you saying that $5,250 would be a more appealing price to pay for an upgrade from SR to LR?

    What about the tow hitch?

I have also never towed with a sedan, but in Europe caravans are a lot more popular for holiday than they are on the US. Our use case for a hitch receiver is for a hitch mounted bike rack.

    What about the tow hitch?

Interesting. I will patiently wait until someone with a screwdriver crawls under theirs and pops that lid open to reveal what is really in there. If the substructure for a receiver is there, sweet. If not, well, that's more information for us, too.
