Tesla Tech told me this today after replacement at their repair faculty. Also it’s LTE now.

Humm So only a remanufactured MCU?! Might only last 3ish years. But then again, remanufactured MCU1 $1300 plus tax and labor? What’s the total?? verses MCU2 @ $2700 total (with tax and labor)

Is there some site I can go to with my VIN to see when I’ll be able to get the upgrade to MCU2?

Not sure if this caused my center screen to go black, but recently new software 2020.12.5 installed through the phone app. App froze the install, center screen is now black. 2015 S 85D with AP1 and 88,000 miles. Multiple reboots and screen is still black. Bluetooth on the phone doesn’t recognize...

This procedure did not work after several attempts in various ways. Screen completely black and frozen. Tesla installed a brand new screen and computer system.

@EVnut- Old screen protector couldn’t be saved. I’ll have to get a new one. So far, 228 miles and the the computer and screen are working great. I’ll have to learn how to operate the newest software layout and button controls.

Update: Tesla Service called and my Model 3 is ready. Dropped off last Wed. They replaced the computer and screen. Hopefully all is perfect now

Update on my frozen black screen issue. Model 3 is ready for pick-up now. They installed a brand new computer and tablet screen. Hopefully, it’s a complete fix.

@TigaFF- Nice you have a loaner Model S. I just noticed you have(had) an early Roadster. I’ll bet that was a fun ride. I was able to get a few nice rides in Roadsters. Wishing my Model 3 and my Model S had that strong regen. Our 12.6 kW Tesla solar is pending PG&E email to turn on now.

@TigaFF Interesting that you have the same problem with such a newer Model 3. Thanks for sharing. I too will post as news unfold. Glad they gave me a new Model S loaner. Hopefully you too have a nice Tesla loaner. Sound like I’ll have to wait at least a week for any news.

Wonder if we both have the same problem? When did you get your Model 3 and last six of the VIN number?

2018 Model 3, picked up 3/30/18, currently 12,100 miles, VIN 0092XX, Center screen went black. No rebooting worked. Parked, foot on brake holding scroll buttons for a few minutes or same procedure while driving did not reboot. Headlights work, brake lights work, turn signals work, hazard...

Note: insurance is with the car, not the person driving it. I found this out the hard way when I wreaked a friends car. I said: " don't worry, I have insurance to pay for the damages." My insurance company said no. Insurance is with the car driven, not the driver :-( Hard lesson learned :-(

Has anyone come-up with a "temp spare" that would work for the model "S"? A friend has a LEAF EV w/o a spare. He found out that the Nissan Altima 2003 donut spare is compatible and takes it on long trips. We will be taking a trip to Tahoe soon and don't want to be stranded in the area at...
