Discussion: Model 3 and Y price drop Jan 2023 / April 2023 / Oct 2023 and All other Pricing Speculation going forward

Any insight why there has been a significant price cut on inventory models? I just received the car last week and now feel like I could have saved more. Are inventory models any different?

Clicking sound in steering at low speed

Just want to update that 2 days after I got the delivery of my MYP, I started hearing clicking sound behind the steering wheel. Took it to SC. here is what the repair note said. “Found the clock spring inside the steering column control module was malfunction and was creating a noise while...

I think they will adjust your invoice. I have a similar issue but for me since I am ordering MYP with blue color I will still cross the 55k mark. I wonder that color is now costing me 2.5k.

High market cap to GDP is because of 1) lower interest rates 2) US GDP as a % of Global GDP has shrunk, while the US companies operate globally 3) relatively US large caps like FAANG have more dominance in global market (share of global market of US large cap is bigger now, hence valued...

People ignoring (not on this forum but generally speaking) the delivery beat are missing that yet again Tesla is showing that we are constrained by our own limitations and we control how many cars we will sell. The more we build the more we sell. How many companies can say that? Other typical...

This comment from Tim Cook validates the Tesla approach (although Tesla doesn’t need his validation). This is what the traditional automakers miss to understand. They focus on individual pieces but not integrated system. I don’t see Apple having any structural advantages over say Google on self...

You guys have some nerves not to sell all these years. After having put all my life saving at $37 post split, I was happy to sell half at $100 (at least happy at the time). I now only wish I had kept them all till date. In life some lessons are learned the hard way.

Btw, most automakers’ chip shortage was due to their own making. last year as production declined big car makers reduced their orders for chip and hence many foundries shifted production to other chips. Tesla expecting a million production this year would have kept the order high, with room...

Even with deep pockets, which btw Tesla has one now, Lucid could be at $10-20k cost disadvantage, or more. And unless they have superior technology, I don’t see how they can reduce that gap competing in same segment (they can remain a small niche player). If EV rebate puts Tesla on equal...

Agree FSD is a key differentiator. On that topic, FSD subscription option will increase net demand by a huge. Buyers who are hesitant or not able to pay $10k upfront will like to have the optionality to subscribe as and when needed. For example, potential buyers of ID.4 vs Model3 will have to...

So I just noticed that Lucid is advertising on CNBC. Lucid Air is Model S “competitor”. So they are already starting with so much disadvantage. Near-future quarterly financial projections

I expect pressure on gross margin this quarter. Commodity cost is higher, copper, steel, and maybe some battery material. Also impact of little S/X delivery may also pressure the cost. No, given the competitors still sell a whole lot of ICE cars Tesla should benefit. E.g. with carbon tax, tesla will have a few extra lever. Potential to sell credits, pricing power as ICE cars will be expensive or Tesla becomes eligible for tax rebate.

Toyota deal if true could indeed make Tesla a whole lot more valuable. Software revenue per car could be ~ $500 to $3k, FSD take will be pure cherry on top. Another accelerator could be tesla app store / info hub. Let’s wait and see.

Plaid+ delivery is mid 2022. That seems too far out, given some are suggesting tesla will have 4680 production capacity of 4.5gwh this year they may have more than sufficient orders.
