Thanx for the laugh. I've owned a 60, 85, P85, P85d, P90DL, 85D. Do I really need to go on? Bottom line is road trips suck in a Tesla. You can argue it all you want, but getting to a supercharger and charging takes at least 10 times as long as gassing up.

Trolls are negative and adversarial. That would be you my friend. I'm just having a discussion. And I agree, let your contributions to this discussion die.

    Model LS V8

Agreed on the FWD V8. It's weird. It would be better with electric on front and gas on rear like the hybrid Corvette will be. That's just too big of a project with a Tesla. Why a V8? Why not? If I'm going to put anything in there, it may as well be fun. Thought about a generator, but this...

    Model LS V8

Yep, there are trolls everywhere. I am discussing this to see if any of you geniuses can think of anything I haven't.
  5. T

    Model LS V8

Ye of little faith or vision. Your just trolling, but interestingly I have literally towed an Tesla with an F150 to charge it. It worked fine. Keep in mind I can always just cruise in neutral if I think it's taking too much of a toll on the system. I've thought this through pretty well.

For anyone interested in the technical side of this project, and don't mind listening to to guys who like gas, heres a link to the discussion on the LS forum. https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-hybrids/1948020-tesla-model-ls4-6.html

You are so wrong. I've done it many times. Though you do have to be careful as you could pay $15k for a stripped car. My latest is a S60 with a new battery. It's ready for the road. $8k for car, $4k for parts.
  8. T

    Model LS V8

Yea, polestar is Almost the perfect performance car. I think the Corvette hybrid will get it right. That being said at the least I will have a range extender and extra power when I want it for straight line acceleration. Getting it to handle well on hybrid mode will just be a would be nice as...

I hope to start it in the fall. Looking for donor cars now. I'm here to see if anyone sees something I don't.
  10. T

    Model LS V8

    Why?
  11. T

    Model LS V8

It can be done, and I will do it. It's just a matter of time. RWD is on the table, and you might be right. It might be easier to just add FWD structure. But I'm betting this will just be a matter of wiring and changing the cars config. Since they have made both FWD and RWD cars at the same...
  12. T

    Model LS V8

I have done the same. The kids love it and I'm less tired at the end of the day. EV's are great for day to day driving, I won't argue that either. But... In the end you can't deny that charging, and getting to a charger is more time consuming than getting to a gas station and filling up with gas.
  13. T

    Model LS V8

Not emotion. Fact for me and my driving habits. Too much time wasted on road trips when I really want the time. I do not intend to marry the systems together. They will act independently. The road will marry them if you will. I'm not concerned about safety here. This will put more control of...

    Model LS V8

Oops. Got caught up in the good part. Though I can see why Tesla lovers woyld get upset. That said,.... Why is it bonkers if being tethered to a charging station is a major inconvenience?
  15. T

    Model LS V8

You said it much better than I could have. Except the bonkers part. Why is it bonkers if charging is a major inconvenience?
  16. T

    Model LS V8

Gas stations are everywhere. Granted superchargers are plentiful, but they are still a long way from being as convenient as a gas station. Teslas are great, a hybrid Tesla will be greater!
  17. T

    Model LS V8

Well your really overstating my intent. I'm doing this because this is roughly what I think a performance car should be today. The best of both worlds. Not to change the world. So after I made the last post, I did some research and there is a hybrid Corvette in the works. Listen, I love...
  18. T

    Model LS V8

OK, the ICE guys love this. Why do you guys get so upset? I believe EV's would be adopted quicker if they built cars like this. I'm suspicious that's why they did a mid engine on the corvette, too add electric up front and blow everything out of the water.
  19. T

    Model LS V8

Yep, you got me. I had the idea before and posted about it to get input. I've improved on the idea and am posting for further input. Guilty as charged.
  20. T

    Model LS V8

Yep, impractical, but fun! If you look up a LS4 its a compact V8 package that is wedged into a much smaller car than a Model S. I'm trying to find someone who can get me some dimensions on the LS4. So far no luck.
  21. T

    Model LS V8

I do intend to regen through the road. Interesting idea on the accelerometer. But I dont really intend the two systems to interact except "through the road" let's call it drag mode. Which one way I intend to use it. Of course the other way I intend to use it is at the drag strip. So I guess we...

    Lol
  24. T

    Model LS V8

I believe I can trick in into thinking it's a single drive car. I have the programming resources to program it as a single drive car. I think it will just be a matter of wiring it accordingly.
  25. T

    Model LS V8

Do you sleep? 16 hours x 70mph = 1120 miles. I suppose if you sleep at the supercharger that might work.
  26. T

    Model LS V8

I invest in real estate in Florida. I drive all over the place. Teslas on road trips are just a pain. Again, range is not the only reason I'm doing this.
  27. T

    Model LS V8

If I have 265 miles leaving home and have to cover 400 miles I will have to charge at least once. If I have to drive out of my way to charge, I'm going to want to leave with a fairly full battery.
  28. T

    Model LS V8

Well your posts sound like they were written by a crotchety old man! I don't usually trade insults, but this more of an observation than an insult.
  29. T

    Model LS V8

It's not just the charging time, it's the time getting to the charger. And if im going out of my way 45 minutes for a charger, I'm gonna get a full charge. For me to cover 400 miles a day in an 85 would likely be 1.5 hours out of my way and 1.5 hours of charging at least. That's assuming I drive...
  30. T

    Model LS V8

If this actually powers the car while driving, I would be very interested as to how they did it.
  31. T

    Model LS V8

I thought about that, but I think Teslas systems wouldnt like the additional power being added to the system. The voltec system rarely drives the wheels, so you are limited to the power of the electric motor. The volt could've been a much quicker car if the ICE drive the wheels directly all the...
  32. T

    Model LS V8

Yea, it's possible, but again, I don't like being tethered to a charger. It's not just the time to charge its also the time to get to and from a supercharger. 1000 miles doesn't even seem possible.
  33. T

    Model LS V8

Well, I really think traction control on the ICE is going to be manual. Which sounds like fun to be honest. I've considered that the Tesla system might give more power to the rear wheels if senses the front wheels spinning faster. That could be interesting! I think the stability control will...
  34. T

    Model LS V8

Ah, lets see. Insults, speculation, and negativity. Sorry if I'm really not digging into your replies.
  35. T

    Model LS V8

I thought about that, but then I would have to replace the front frame rails to accommodate drive train. That's all there for a front wheel drive. I'm pretty sure I can hack the a D drive Tesla into thinking it's a single drive
  36. T

    Model LS V8

I can tune the LS4 in the Tesla. An LS4 is a compact FWD package that should fit nicely in between the strut towers. I've done the research. Feel free to do your own and prove me wrong. How much are you willing to bet? To be fair I should let you know that I have rebuilt 60 in my driveway...
  37. T

    Model LS V8

Interesting, Your right. I thought that was just another hybrid. Pretty quick car though. I still really like the idea of a V8 in a Tesla though. Not to mention my build will cost a fraction of a Polestar, and I'm guessing be allot quicker. Not to mention allot more fun and a one of a kind.
  38. T

    Model LS V8

I expect my TOTAL cost to be $30k including the cost of the salvage Tesla. This project will allow me to tune a tesla to my liking. Who knows, maybe I can even make it faster and quicker than a stock Tesla! Again, I'm guessing someone will be willing to pay $40k for that. BTW the guys on the...
  39. T

    Model LS V8

Assume it will work, be quick and no cruise control when using iCE.
  40. T

    Model LS V8

Why so angry and negative? My guess is you've never worked on or fixed your own car. I don't need service or a warranty. I can fix most problems in the time it takes someone to drive their car down to and from the shop.
  41. T

    Model LS V8

Not really. I want the gas motor for extra power and range when needed. In addition this will have redundant drive systems and can be modified for additional power.
  42. T

    Model LS V8

The problem with that is the batteries. But probably a market there. I want a car that runs on electric 90 percent of the time, but has the option of gas for range and power.
  43. T

    Model LS V8

Not looking for a market, just want to make money on it, if I decide to sell it.
  44. T

    Model LS V8

Keep in mind, I'm with you. But being tethered to a charger sucks when you need to cover 400 miles in a day. If the laws and automakers favored this kind of configuration, electric cars would be adopted much quicker by the general public.
  45. T

    Model LS V8

You wouldn't, but others might! I personally think this configuration is how you win over the market. No range anxiety. Sounds good. Will run on electric most of the time. People can modify the gas engine for more power. If someone was actually making a hybrid like this, I might buy it and have...
  46. T

    Model LS V8

You don't have any confidence problems do you? You and I are both speculating here, but I believe you are wrong. Granted there will have to be some calibration with the throttle, but I believe the both systems will see this as nothing more than accelerating down a steep hill, and react...

What do you think it would be worth?
  48. T

    Model LS V8

What do you think it would be worth.
  49. T

    Model LS V8

Thanx! Yes a rear wheel ICE with front electric would be ideal, but very hard to accomplish with any existing platform. I was wondering if Chevy is planning this with the corvette. That would be the perfect sports car in my opinion. Yes, space is an issue here. My estimates says it will work...
  50. T

    Model LS V8

Yea, it's not looking like this will appeal to many people. Which to be honest, is part of the fun.
