    Air Suspension/Spring Replacement UK

I have never owned a car with air suspension but from what I read, Tesla just fit new air suspension units rather than repair. Your best bet would be to track down an independent garage used to overhauling Mercedes air suspension systems.

“Milling” sound on 2013 85, RDU doomed or…?

Quite possibly the sealed rotor bearings have failed due to a leaking coolant seal, a very common problem on the Large Drive Unit. Probably cheaper to have the LDU rebuilt rather than replace. This topic has been widely discussed on this forum, e.g. Class action for Model S drive unit failure?

X90D battery being replaced with 75kwh battery under warranty!?

Well done. This appears to be a battery which was new in April 2022 but has been remanufactured but there is no 'R1' suffix. I suspect that Tesla have changed their labelling sequence as I have not seen one before starting: 'TL22'. Normally it would start 'T17A' for a battery brand new in...

X90D battery being replaced with 75kwh battery under warranty!?

P.S. The usable capacity of these batteries is worth knowing about: Tesla’s hacked Battery Management System exposes the real usable capacity of its battery packs

X90D battery being replaced with 75kwh battery under warranty!?

I'm not sure about the performance of the car as the 75 kWh battery is only 350V compared with 400V for the 90 battery. Someone with more knowledge than me might suggest that the 75 kWh battery and related fuses may not be able to deliver the power quick enough. But as the car is not a 'P'...

X90D battery being replaced with 75kwh battery under warranty!?

Interesting. I have not heard of such a thing happening before but I do know that when Tesla fit a remanufactured battery, they usually arrange for the replacement to have the same range as the displaced item. A lot will depend upon what Tesla have in stock. You might want to obtain a photo...

"Clunk" feeling between acceleration and regen

At a Tesla meet up, we checked the rear axle nuts on four Model S cars and all eight were not quite up to the required tightness. They were certainly not loose but I was glad that we checked. I guess that they were correct when built but as most of the cars checked were high-mileage, there...

Risk Manangnent of Buying AP1 Model S

Glad you liked it, hope it helps. The easy way to spot the difference between gen 1 and 2 HV batteries is the location of the pyro fuse cover. If you can see it on the underside of the HV battery behind the offside front wheel then you have gen 2. Gen 1 and 1.5 have the pyro fuse cover on the...

    P100D--planning for LDU issues

I understand that the main reason for failure is the often slow and gradual leakage of coolant via the rotor seal. I would drive it normally, keep an eye on the coolant level and well before warranty expiration, do this check:

Brake booster connector for 2014 RHD P85 in UK

I am trying to help a friend to repair what appears to be a bad connector on the top of what I think is called the ibooster or brake booster. It is located under the scuttle panel on the UK driver's side. The unit makes a loud tapping noise sounding like a relay which I can make go away by...

2016 Model S strange sound from dash: Cracking, rubbing, while driving.

A bit of a wild guess but it might be worth removing the frunk to make sure that all of the retaining screws for the cross braces are up tight. Ditto any other blots on the suspension turrets.

    2017 S75D Oscillating/Rotational noise from front

Model X adjustable rear camber kits - anyone with UK experience, is it worth the cost/hassle?

I have yet to fit adjustable camber arms to my 2017 S75 but I will fit the Hardrace items just as soon as I detect uneven tyre wear. I have an S85-owning friend in Worthing who has recently fitted them himself, an easy job. On the S, there is no need to do any bolt-cutting as the fasteners are...

    Battery life Model S 75D

I'm afraid that the batteries can have age-related degradation as well as cycle-based degradation plus the rate of degradation is not usually a straight line. My S75 lost 4% in the first year after 11,000 miles and it was up to 8% by 31,000 miles. i.e the degradation curve is steepest at the...

    Battery life Model S 75D

You have nothing to worry about, your numbers are fine. My 2017 S75 has covered 92,000 miles and has 9% HV battery degradation. It shows 212 miles when charged to 100%. Make sure that your display is set to % and not miles.

Should I test my coolant or just change it as a precaution?

My 2017 S75 has covered 92,000 miles and has never had the coolant changed, nor has it needed to be topped up. No evidence of any leaks. Back in 2017 Tesla recommended changing the coolant every 50,000 miles, now they do not suggest a change at all. I changed the final drive oil recently and...

    Buying Used model s

Only because it has more range and this will make it easier to sell, when the time comes. This is assuming that all other factors are equal. It is a lot of money to spend and so I recommend a test drive of both, listening for any knocks or rattling in the suspension. Even better, ask a...

2018 Model S "oil in coolant"

This is unfortunate. If this case were to go to law then I reckon it will hinge upon the type of 'motor oil' in the coolant. I think it likely that a judge would require expert engineering evidence on exactly what of type of motor oil has contaminated the coolant. It would be good if a...
