Model S plaid vs. Model 3 Performance

This is true and has been true since the 2018 Model 3 first came out, unfortunately.

Plaid front wheels break traction in tight turn into garage

The tire hops like that when it is moving more sideways than forward, just like dragging a rubber soled shoe in a direction other than the direction of travel.

New best 1/4 mile time with the Plaid

Not quite 1 second but still a noticeable performance difference, nice run. What was ET before running VERY LOW?

New plaid rear brake caliper looks like it may be open pot with a cover.

The regen will not make up for the difference in braking between one caliper and four-caliper pistons. There are multiple reasons why Plaids have had issues on track - mainly involving the weight of the car and the braking components.

    Plugged tire

Plug repairs may allow air and moisture to penetrate the body of the tire. This could lead to a dangerous blowout over time. That is why glue / rubber cement is typically used with a plug. Improper repairs may Void Your Tire Warranty, and the tire manufacturer won’t support a tire’s speed...

Model S P85D lower and lower range for 3 - years - WARRANTY ENDING SOON - what to do?

Someone may or may not know who is behind an internet handle, there is tons of information on this thread and others. It's not that difficult to piece things together - for local people especially. But the business owner doing something they claim they normally wouldn't do was my point, that...

This is one of the main problems with foam tires. I would avoid them for this reason alone.

Porsche N-spec winter tires 21" on Plaid

The variance in tolerances tire manufactures have to follow when making a given tire size is substantial. Brand X’s 275 can be as wide as Brand Y’s 305! To make matters worse there is no industry standard to establish how to measure tire tread widths. You can look up the “Specs” sheet for any...

Minor Tire Leak - Sealant Repair Kit

Yes but with a maximum of 3 times. Any reputable tire chain should also not place patches too close to each other for structural integrity reasons.

    Model S Load Index

A light wheel is best. staying at 19" would be better for ride quality and for range. 19" wheels gain 5% - 10% range over 20" Less sidewall w 20" = worse ride quality.

Best way to buy a Plaid sight unseen.

Plaid = one trick pony. Taycan is fun, more balanced, and has far better handling and steering feel. G80 m3 most fun overall, best sound.

    Winter tire recommendations

Typically I go with Michelin Alpin if below 40 degrees F continuously: https://www.thetirelab.com/michelin-alpin-6/ https://www.michelin.com/en/news/the-new-michelin-alpin-6-tire-the-winter-tire-with-long-lasting-performance/ If it is only occasionally below 40, I would consider all season tires.

    2014 Tesla Model S 85 - Build Thread

One of the all time greats! I suppose it wouldn't be as fun as a 4-seater, but it's amazing how fun these still are even with 1/3 of the power of some Teslas.

Is it safe (or better) to use the Pilot Sport 4s N0(Porsche) version on a M3P?

Thanks for the other links and info! Not sure why Porsche would spec XL, 92 load index tires on the front of a 911! That goes against what I know about putting performance tires on cars. Typically lighter weight is used in performance applications. But when there is need for reinforced...

It's also possible to have a standard mechanic perform a pre-purchase inspection, although they probably won't be able to examine the electrical components, Look up a local mechanic in his market, and let him know you want him to take it to that mechanic (one that he does not already know)...

Convenient - now you don't have to be private at all :) Whenever you violate a customer's trust, just go ahead and say that you think a customer may have wanted to do something illegal! I'm joking, but whatever your justification, I found your behavior of bashing someone looking for help and...

Model 3 SR+ showing 166 miles at 80% charge.. is that right?

In addition the Taycans have additional battery capacity beyond what is stated in the pack! For failover purposes, that way there is no possible way it will fall below the threshold.

I agree with you 100%. I feel sad that it seems that the battery warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on. Sorry for all the troubles the posters here having major battery issues have had! Quite sad, really. Tesla service needs to improve their communication and escalation procedures.

Yes, you actually read the thread. That's the whole point. Not sure why others are ignoring this, as it is the most key part. If I have a problem with my battery, and they say so, then it's a problem. No arguing that.

Model S P85D lower and lower range for 3 - years - WARRANTY ENDING SOON - what to do?

I can understand that you may have fewer potential customers if Tesla pays for batteries under warranty and no one needs 3rd party services, but I've never seen a vendor attack a potential customer and speculate so negatively about their intentions only for reporting frustrations with service...

Is it safe (or better) to use the Pilot Sport 4s N0(Porsche) version on a M3P?

I didn't say it isn't safe, I said what is recommended from the OEM should be looked at. On a 911, the typical weight on each tire would be as follows: Front Left tire: 650 lbs Front Right tire: 650 lbs Rear Left tire: 950 lbs Rear Right tire: 950 lbs The weight is over the extreme tail end of...

Plaids with 20" tires AND rear inner tire wear?

Can you send us a picture of your rear tire wear? Any good alignment shop should be able to help. Model 3 SR+ showing 166 miles at 80% charge.. is that right?

No, I was not suggesting unifying rules for pharma and EVs and oversight of both to be centralized at all. Just no. You clearly can understand the point, which is that I believe better consumer protection laws should and will go in place. Don't make an argument where there isn't one, or...

Is it safe (or better) to use the Pilot Sport 4s N0(Porsche) version on a M3P?

That's great. So, the XLs might work. But I can assure you the tires are designed and made differently. It's better to get the tires that were designed for your car. Required - no; recommended - yes. The OEMs each have tires designed different for the specific weight balance of their cars...

Model X 90kWh battery pack degradation

I don't agree with your bias, and how much it has malfunctioned vs. being designed to degrade is clearly a gray area that their lawyers decided they needed to define better. So in your opinion, even if it eventually degrades to 0, that's fine? In my mind that would be both a malfunction and...

Model 3 SR+ showing 166 miles at 80% charge.. is that right?

This is indeed the exact standard for the pharmaceutical industry today. Would be consistent consumer protection to have similar for EVs. I'm surprised the laws haven't been updated to inform and protect consumers better for EVs as well. EPA needs to provide more useful testing, rather than...

Is it safe (or better) to use the Pilot Sport 4s N0(Porsche) version on a M3P?

The Porsche spec tires will likely have extra strength for the rear tires of the car, as that is what supports the significant % of the weight, the engine being located in the rear. Some Tesla tires are XL rated - for extra load or extra weight on all 4 corners. I would stick with the tires...
