Thanks for the comments of support... It is hard to know when things go well, because usually people complain when there are issues. I'll probably upgrade, if for no other reason than to get dashcam functionality. The problem with the yellow border thing is Tesla's ridiculous legal language...

I'm wanting to upgrade the whole MCU2 but I'm scared of making my car into a (unique) snowflake. I've seen some reports of problems after-upgrade. Can anyone confirm that they did the upgrade, but it didn't cause new weird problems? Right now, the software team has to validate their releases...

what the heck is Tesla thinking... seriously, did they actually say this plan out loud in a conference room and all agree it's a good idea? I am exactly the customer who would spend $2500 to get an upgraded experience, but you're going to just break existing functionality that many people use...

This is a very real phenomenon and still occurs on latest software. Both Model S and Model 3. It's actually pretty frequent for me.

Why would they? (1) Because it is a known defect, of materials or manufacturing. (I do not care which, the distinction does not matter to me) (2) Because rather than repair when obligation was clear but root cause was unknown, they pushed their customers to wait until root cause was known...

I pinged Tesla about this today. They said the redesigned part is being tested. ETA late spring/early summer. No waitlist.

I'm anxiously awaiting it too. These days I control my Teslas via API to do things like warm up in the morning. But let's be real.. the odds of guessing the endpoint, parameters, and valid values are not good. :-)
