    What is your real range?

All vehicles are inefficient when they first start, until everything warms up. So, you can’t compare a single 200-300 mile drive to multiple short trips. If you really want to know how far it will go, charge to 100% and then drive continuously until you’re under 10% (5% if you’re brave). That...

    For those with SolarEdge access

I can see the panels, but there is no proper layout. So, I can't tell which panel is where on my roof. I had considered dismounting the panels to look at the serials on the optimizers, but it's not worth the effort.

    What is long range mode

Yup, CR has a 2018 LR RWD, which was actually EPA rated for 330+ miles. In the summer with HVAC off and not exceeding 60mph (believable on highways in CT where CR is located) it would be fairly easy to get 350+ miles . The energy graph in my LR RWD commonly says I’ll exceed that in summer.

Firearm storage model 3 [and other firearms discussion]

I hate to keep pushing this thread off-topic. But, given that many EV owners lean left, I’d hate to leave anyone who doesn’t know about guns with the impression that responsible gun owners would ever find what you’ve said above to be acceptable or normal. It is a good idea to point a firearm in...

Firearm storage model 3 [and other firearms discussion]

Firing into the gas tank of an ICE vehicle would be a concern too. I agree with other comments that there are no accidents when it comes to guns, just irresponsible people. If a person thinks there is a chance that they’re going to unintentionally discharge a firearm, then they shouldn’t be...

    Supercharger - Fairfield, CT

Fairfield isn't the only supercharger in UI's territory. The Milford I-95 rest stops and Milford Mall superchargers are also UI. Both have existed for years (Milford rest stops were some of the first on the east coast). So, Tesla & UI are familiar with each other.

Battery Management System - What I Learned At Tesla Service Center

Every Tesla forum should have a post pinned to the top of every sub-forum that says: "Relax, your battery is fine! Your range meter is just inaccurate because you don't drive enough everyday." As someone else said, change the display to show percentage and forget about it. If the battery no...

Just bought a New 2018 LR RWD from Tesla

Premium connectivity for life was based on order date, not production date. So I wouldn't expect this car to have it.

    2020, 2019, 2018 Model 3 Battery Capacities & Charging Constants

Why would the raw value for the 2020 P 18 be higher than the 2020 AWD?

Just bought a New 2018 LR RWD from Tesla

Nice find. As someone else said, the LR RWD is the best version of the M3 (assuming you value efficiency and range). My guess is that it had serious paint issues and they just got around to fixing it. They had a lot of early issues with the multi coat paints.

anyone tried to add weight (i.e. sand bag) in the trunk to improve traction for rwd model3 in snow?

Sounds like a ground clearance issue. Car is too low to plow through a foot of snow, no matter having winter tires.

    SR Purchasing Doubts

Sounds like an SR- is perfect for your use case. I believe they’re still available off-the-menu. You’ll love it after having the anemic Prius Prime.

    Sudden Acceleration - NHTSA

My guess is that people either have TACC engaged without realizing it, or the car hits a slick patch & reduces regen to avoid wheel lockup which feels like acceleration (it’s really reduced braking).

Will Elon give Autopilot free for 2018 or early 2019 buyers

I just bought a wall charger in September. Now they have a version with WiFi at the same price. Is there a thread where I can whine & moan about Tesla screwing me? If you paid & they delivered, that's it, transaction completed. Move on.

Off Peak Charging - How Do You Do It?

I wish Tesla had the GM system. In the Volt you tell it when your off-peak rates are (days & hours) and give it an estimated departure time for each day. Then it will schedule charging within the off-peak window and complete charging by the departure time. Tesla's system is primitive by...

    Tesla solar tools / zep

You see them pop up on ebay occasionally. Setup an ebay notification. When SolarCity bought Zep Solar in 2013 they stopped distributing their products. So, it's all proprietary now. It was a smart move, since no one has matched the Zep system and it is/was the best.

Can somebody confirm Zigbee settings on SolarEdge inverter?

When I switched mine to use Ethernet the Zigbee worked for a little while after, and then stopped working. When I login to solarguard.solarcity.com it says it’s lost contact with the inverter. But it still has contact with my solarguard revenue grade meter, so Tesla doesn’t seem to care that...

New to EV - showing a significantly lower estimated range compared to rated range

I own the Stats app too, but don't use it anymore. It made me crazy. Same reason I leave the battery meter on percentage instead of showing the me the useless EPA-rated range remaining. Measuring the charge state and capacity of Lithium batteries is very hard, so it's all an estimate. Bottom...

Tesla Model 3 LR AWD -- 200 miles range vs 320 claimed? [NJ]

The cabin heater is rough on range. Try your commute with the HVAC system off (seat heater only). Assuming you stay under 70mph, you should get close to the 240wh/mi needed to achieve the car's rated range. Setting your overnight charging to start at a time that will result in full charge...

Can somebody confirm Zigbee settings on SolarEdge inverter?

You don't have a box somewhere that looks like the one shown to the left of the inverter @1:46 in the video linked below? It would have a green sticker on it that says Solarcity Solarguard. The electrical diagram given to you as part of the original install docs would also show it. If not...

    Supercharging Bonus or Error?

Wow, you may be one of the few early M3 performance buyers who actually makes out by not taking the $5k Elon offered to give it up. For most others the $5k was worth more than lifetime supercharging.

Can somebody confirm Zigbee settings on SolarEdge inverter?

Wait until after the Powerwall install before you mess with it. Given the age of your system, I'm guessing you have a SolarGuard revenue-grade meter using CTs to monitor the combined output of all four inverters. If that's the case, Tesla doesn't really need the Zigbee connection to the...

Can somebody confirm Zigbee settings on SolarEdge inverter?

It seems like Tesla has started to restrict SolarEdge inverters from communicating with the SolarEdge servers via their Zigbee gateway. Data is valuable and Tesla must want to keep control of it. If you run an Ethernet cable to the inverter and set it to conenct via Ethernet, you should start...

Does dual motor make a big difference in terms of power, enjoyment, etc?

I love my LR RWD. Plenty of power and it has the longest real-world range of any Tesla ever sold.

    Battery life seems way off?

I don’t know why Tesla allows the low regen setting to apply for more than one drive cycle. It has some usefulness in slippery conditions, but using it everyday just wastes energy and reduces range.
  26. C

    Battery life seems way off?

Make sure you have regen set to standard. The low setting wastes energy whenever you brake. Beyond that, it’s all about driving efficiently and climate control usage.

Who bought their car in March with basic autopilot for $2k

Never say never. I agree that they’re in better financial shape now. But, we’ll see what happens at the end of Q1 2020. That’s been their toughest quarter in the past. I’d at least wait until then. And, just because they say something is a mistake and they never do it again, doesn’t mean it’s...

Who bought their car in March with basic autopilot for $2k

Just wait until Tesla needs cash again and they'll have another fire sale. I bought in my M3 8/2018 without EAP or FSD. In 3/2019 they had a fire sale with AP for $2k and FSD for $3k. I bought both then, although I regret buying FSD since I've yet to get any value out of it and expect I never...

I see the benefits of battery percentage!

The best thing would be if Tesla showed a real-world range-until-empty value next to the battery. But, that value can't be realistically calculated until you've been driving for ~20 miles and the car has reached a steady-state, especially in cold weather. So, they show the unrealistic EPA ideal...

Premium Connectivity cost $9.99/month for many Model 3 versions

They know that many people would use their phone as a WiFi hotspot instead of paying this, that’s why they won’t let traffic work over WiFi. That’s the only feature on the list I care about. Annoying....

SolarEdge Monitoring w/Tesla Solar Panels (Using GWY10 Zigbee Gateway)

My SolarEdge Inverter also stopped communicating to Solaredge in late November. Previously it had been using Zigbee via the Tesla/SolarCity Solarguard gateway. After several reboots I guessed that Tesla had blocked the traffic, so I hard-wired CAT5/Ethernet to my inverter and reconfigured it to...

Collision Avoidance overrode brake press and causing car to veer and hit the curb

The car has no ability to override the brakes, other than ABS to avoid locking the brakes. It can apply the brakes on its own, but not stop the driver from doing so. Tesla’s hydraulic braking system is relatively simple compared to other EVs and PHEVs. Their is no mixing of regen and hydraulic...

Scheduled Departure Feature - Can You Change the Off-Peak Charging Hrs?

This annoys me too. Around here Off-Peak is 8PM-11:59AM M-F and all-day on weekends. I want my car to finish charging around 7:30AM so the battery is warm. But, the car thinks off-peak ends at 6AM, so it stops charging by then, letting the battery cool by the time I leave. They need to include...

    Tesla Shop Phone Number?

Does anyone have a phone number for Tesla Shop customer service? I placed an order for a Wall Charger and they sent me a shipping notice a week ago, but FedEx never received the package (status is "Label Created.") I've tried emailing them with no luck. I've also tried calling the local...

    M3 is a BMW, people

Cisco's router operating system has been called IOS since the 1980s. Apple had to come to an agreement with them to use the name for their mobile devices. But when someone says IOS, you think Apple. The low-production BMW M3 will be similarly overshadowed by the mass-production Tesla M3.

    Charge Compatibility with a Volt

Sounds good :) The bottom line is really that a "smart" adapter is needed to allow most non-Tesla cars to charge from a Tesla EVSE.
  46. C

    Charge Compatibility with a Volt

Yup, that's my understanding, not that there is a dumb adapter available to confirm it with. It depends on the car's willingness to keep retrying J1772 communication. If it tries once and then enters a fail state until the EVSE is unplugged/re-plugged, then SWCAN will cause a failure. If it...
  47. C

    Charge Compatibility with a Volt

The dip switch actually tells the Tesla wall connector to either 1). try SWCAN and then fallback to J1772, or 2). just use J1772. The problem with option 1 is that non-Tesla vehicles don't understand SWCAN. The unknown signaling can put them in a funky, causing them to refuse to negotiate...

    Charge Compatibility with a Volt

From the horse’s mouth: Tesla to J1772 Adapter?
  49. C

    Charge Compatibility with a Volt

Yes, I’m sure. The newer wall chargers start off using SWCAN protocol and then fallback to J1772 after 30 seconds. SWCAN, and the resulting delay, can be disabled by changing dip switch #2 inside the unit to put it in legacy (J1772-only) mode. Making the Tesla Wall Connector v2 work with the...

    Charge Compatibility with a Volt

The 30 second wait is because the UMC actually starts by trying to use a proprietary Tesla signaling protocol. After 30 seconds of trying that it falls-back to using normal J1772. There is some hardware in these adapters to block the proprietary Tesla signaling so it doesn’t confuse the...
