    Personal safety while charging

Some others have mentioned having a non-emergency number posted on the charging info screen, and I hope that Tesla implements that. I haven't looked at what Tesla Roadside Assistance offers. My father was a sheriff's dispatcher and he and my mom traveled a lot, using both law enforcement and...

    Personal safety while charging

The fake wallet is a helpful idea and one I will implement for my car travel. Thank you. When I am using public transit/airlines, I have a wallet purse over one shoulder and hidden under my jacket while carrying a small purse outside my jacket with non-essentials. If someone grabs that purse...

    Personal safety while charging

Thank you for your input. All of these ideas are useful, and I especially like the plan to put the car in Valet mode, and preemptive unplugging.

    Personal safety while charging

I agree that Tesla has done a good job of locating SCs, and I appreciate the bright lights and nearby businesses. I cannot say that I've been scared or threatened, but it came to mind that there is a vulnerability with being tethered to a SC that does not exist in other situations. Considering...

    Personal safety while charging

Thank you for sharing this idea. Until those numbers are posted, I am going to start my charging sessions with looking up the local police number and keeping a log for each location. My father was a dispatcher and I know they encourage people to call in any situation or perceived threat, and...

    Personal safety while charging

Everyone, thank you again for your input. I have found this to be informative, entertaining, and some ideas quite useful. Let's back up a step and start again with the premise that a woman is sitting inside her Tesla while the car is charging. A troublemaker comes along and would be presumed to...

    Personal safety while charging

I agree. I do not think that SC stations are less safe than other places. In fact, overall, I think the chargers are safer because of the lighting and busy locations. The reason for the thread is the variable we have here with not being able to disconnect and drive off. A lot of people have...

    Personal safety while charging

Good story. The first week I had my car as we got back to town after a week long road trip, I got pulled over by our local police for the temporary plate not being fully visible in the back window. I had set it there after it nearly blew off the two screws. The two young officers kept us for...

    Personal safety while charging

Tesla could address some basic design elements such as cutting back undergrowth or bushes, and improve or repair lighting. This thread might also alert Tesla to what it is that we drivers take into account when stopping at a SC when they are planning new SC locations. One of the stops I had in...

    Personal safety while charging

I started a new thread called Sketchiest Supercharger Sites. Add the bad locations there. Tesla then has the information to take action, and we can plan our trips around those sites or at least avoid night time charging there.

    Sketchiest Supercharger Sites

Was that due to the SC site location, or something unrelated to that?

    Sketchiest Supercharger Sites

I travel long distance alone and some forum members have mentioned some SC sites that feel unsafe. Please tell me which ones to avoid if possible. Add the site and state, last time visited, and details/photos if you have them. Thank you, and keep posting on PlugShare.

    Personal safety while charging

Yes, a cool head, determined walk, and an icy stare is my well practiced MO and I believe it has served me well. When I was starting out on my own (a very long time ago), my dad equipped my car with a CB radio and my backpack with a Snap-On Tools long screwdriver. I used to keep my baseball bat...

Thank you everyone! I appreciate each of your thoughtful replies and you have my gratitude. You’ve given me some great ideas and some things to ponder.

    Personal safety while charging

For what it’s worth, I’ve gone long distance and never felt unsafe during the day. The night driving has not felt treacherous where I’ve been, but I would opt for a locked hotel room if I needed a charge and the area didn’t feel safe. I encourage her to try some distance if she feels safe during...

Great idea. Thank you. I'll have my Significant Other put the app on his phone, too. I cannot see leaving the car after a lifetime of being taught to stay with my car in an emergency. I suspect that Bonnie feels safer in the desert and I honor that. Me? Not so much.

    Personal safety while charging

I'm sorry that you had that experience. I often question whether someone is curious or looking for an opportunity. While I would be upset if I were robbed, those things are all insured and replaceable, and I would give those up to escape. I am more concerned about my personal safety...something...

    Personal safety while charging

Southpark is about 120 miles from Longmont. Nice drive! Certainly leaving the car is an option and one that I use during the day because getting food/coffee/exercise is needed. My concern is more about the cross country nighttime charging and sleeping. I know it sounds funny that I drive a $90k...

    Personal safety while charging

Honestly, I had not thought of the hazard lights and horn, and that is so obvious that I should have thought of it. Thank you. Does anyone know if a Tesla rep reads these posts and would consider this lockdown mode idea of Chug's, or is there a place to present ideas to Tesla? I like the...

I know, they used to be called secret admirers, and now we call them stalkers. :-) Yes, it is beautiful here just below RMNP. We have Georgia Boys BBQ now. Best ever! Check in with me when you get back this way, okay?

    Personal safety while charging

Has anyone thought whether checking in on charging stations on PlugShare can give someone your intended path? I don't know what the tracking possibilities are for those with IT knowledge and bad intentions. I've limited myself to one check in per trip, no matter how many charging stops I use...

    Personal safety while charging

That's an interesting option, although not for my recent trip to MN in January with freezing temps. Surprisingly, the gas station in NE at the Supercharger closes overnight. I greatly appreciate the well lit Superchargers, and use tinted windows and sunshades while sleeping in the back.

    Personal safety while charging

It's the being tethered that is the difference between charging and mall parking. I'm glad to hear that other women travel far and wide as I do, and thankfully, I've never had a real threat, but I try to be mindful and aware of my options and limitations.

    Personal safety while charging

As a woman, I have to consider my personal safety when traveling. If I am alone in an ICE vehicle and facing a threat, I can start the vehicle and drive away or use it as a weapon. If there were a threat while charging my Tesla at a Supercharger, it would be unsafe for me to get out of the Tesla...

Tesla: The real out of warranty costs

In the YouTube video ("Tesla: The real cost of being out of warranty"), starting at minute 3:30, he says that the warranty was voided because the driver used the car for commercial purposes. I bought my Tesla as a personal vehicle and I own a truck as a commercial vehicle, but there are some...
