    The Wrecked Roadster Registry

Fair point. Although its worth noting Telsa has reversed their policy on salvaged vehicles; they will now sell parts and service everything in the vehicle except the HV system, which requires a separate inspection. Thanks for the TPMS link, will be sure to give them a try!

    The Wrecked Roadster Registry

Thanks for the congrats! Seeing TPMS warnings on all four tires in the display. Pulled the logs but haven't closely analyzed them yet. The car has a clean title so definitely no issues as far as Tesla is concerned. Seems like finding a competent Roadster tech on the east coast can be...

    The Wrecked Roadster Registry

I purchased #468. Towed it home the next day (I live in DC) and drove it around the neighborhood a few times; so far everything is fine. The battery receives a full charge of ~140 miles, which seems normal given the age and mileage.

Tesla Roadster Service Negligence; Seeking advice for Legal Action.

Thank you for your public service announcement. You have done the people of this forum a great service by stating the obvious that swapping a pack may require slightly more effort than swapping wiper blades or tv remote batteries; I'm sure everyone will think twice now. Cannot thank you enough.

Tesla Roadster Service Negligence; Seeking advice for Legal Action.

Thanks for contributing your opinion @Chickenlittle. To clarify, yes, it needs a pack, which is a part, not a service. Secondly, while some people may not have the expertise to service their vehicles, others do; I rebuilt two S' in my garage while also learning to gain root access to fully...

YellowBrick project: 2010 Tesla Roadster #683 (Parts needed)

That is awesome news! I was optimistic a level 1 recovery may yield favorable results; glad it worked out! Swapping 2 modules is certainly a best case scenario outcome when repairing salvaged Roadsters. What is next on your repair list?

Tesla Roadster Service Negligence; Seeking advice for Legal Action.

Salvaged vehicles should not suddenly become the red headed stepchild b/c the branding has changed. In this particular case, all this vehicle requires is a pack, which has nothing to do with "servicing" the car per se, it's more of a parts manufacturing/distribution issue. There is no car...

Tesla Roadster Service Negligence; Seeking advice for Legal Action.

Thanks, I greatly appreciate your input! Yeah, not happy about the 20% degraded pack, either. The rumors could be true. All roadster owners received an email from Jerome Guillen last week regarding the dedicated support channels for addressing roadster service concerns (as @MichaelP90DL had...

YellowBrick project: 2010 Tesla Roadster #683 (Parts needed)

Perhaps a blessing in disguise; if the HV service disconnect plug is disconnected (equivalent to cut loop in Model S), it will not drain your pack, as you're probably already aware. So it's possible the cut wiring has achieved that same purpose. You might get lucky. Good luck and I look forward...

Thanks @pharma5, I've spoken with Pete/Peter over at Gruber Motors. They are great people; very genuine and honest.

Tesla Roadster Service Negligence; Seeking advice for Legal Action.

Assuming most Roadster are out of warranty by now, no? This particular vehicle's warranty was voided because of the insurance write off I'm assuming. Got it. The way you frame your explanation makes total sense. I suppose it's safe to assume once the warranty period of a vehicle has expired...

Tesla Roadster Service Negligence; Seeking advice for Legal Action.

I completely agree. Tesla's attempted "efforts" to resolve the service ticket, albeit significantly lacking, cannot be considered negligent. However, negligence is not always a consequence of fault bearing action (damage/harm to a vehicle as you stated). Perhaps more often than not, negligence...

Tesla Roadster Service Negligence; Seeking advice for Legal Action.

#933 was written off by an insurance co. in 2014 and it's been my goal over the past year to bring this car back to life. I contacted Tesla immediately after purchasing the vehicle and coordinated a drop-off at a SC in California. The car was accepted for service and inspected accordingly to...

Original Tesla Roadster Carbon Fiber Hardtop For Sale

You mention "carbon fiber" in the subject and throughout the post, although I'm not seeing a carbon fiber hardtop; am I missing something? Also, did you forget to list the actual cost?

    Rebuilding Salvaged Model S 75D

My apologies! I finished the rebuild over a month ago. I even took it for a 6 hour road trip and thoroughly enjoyed Autopilot! As far as gaining factory mode and root access, unfortunately it's not knowledge that can be shared. In fact, despite having root access and performing all software...

    Rebuilding Salvaged Model S 75D

Unfortunately, it is permanent. Service centers do not typically charge for the update. AP/Supercharging might be disabled although they can be easily turned on again if you have root. Agreed, it's not easy finding a wrecked tesla with a clean title. You should be golden once you get your...

    Rebuilding Salvaged Model S 75D

Awesome, congrats. Tesla disables OTA updates for all salvaged cars. However, you can always take the car to a service center and they will perform the update there.

    Rebuilding Salvaged Model S 75D

If you have an early build (< 2015), the pyrofuse will be located on the fuse box directly atop the 12v battery (top left corner under air filter); fyi it is an extremely uncomfortable space to work in. Otherwise, it’s located on the only horizontal fuse box in the middle of the bay slightly...

    Rebuilding Salvaged Model S 75D

Thanks for your input @nemSoma! Contactors are closing now and car is moving into drive gear! Thankfully this was a software cluster mess and not hardware related. Leason to be learned is never do a software update when the car is not fully repaired yet.

    Rebuilding Salvaged Model S 75D

I had started to (safely) remove the HV cables because I heard of Tesla technicians attributing charger problems to fualty chargers & HV cables, although I decided to walkback that approach. In any case, in the following image, you’ll notice 4 HV cables feeding into the charger (2 from charge...

    Rebuilding Salvaged Model S 75D

Thanks for your reply. My speculation is after charging stopped abruptly, due to the low coolant, the contactors opened and refused to close. Shortly after, I performed the update but it was too late as the BMS request to close contractors was not responding, which ultimately contributed to...

    Rebuilding Salvaged Model S 75D

So I started making my way towards the on-board charger. My suspicion was a blown fuse: I checked the 500v fuse and there was continuity; so it was fine. In addition, all the other small fuses were fine as well. I'm also assuming the cable between the charge port and charger is fine, but...

    Rebuilding Salvaged Model S 75D

I'm rebuilding my second Tesla Model S; if you're interested in my first rebuild experience, see here. This is a 2017 (December build) 75D with 4k miles. So the first thing I did after moving the car into the garage was replace the pyrofuse and connect the cut loop. I gave the battery a jump...

Attempting to Repair Front Collision Salvaged Tesla

I personally don’t see any contradiction in my statement. My advice was for the majority of people yearning for a Tesla but don’t necessarily have the know-how knowledge that is acquired as a result of working on these cars and can instead afford to spend a bit more for peace-of-mind. My...

Attempting to Repair Front Collision Salvaged Tesla

It's been a fun year owning this car. I had absolutely no prior experience working on cars, let alone a Tesla. Despite the knowledge gap, I rebuilt and registered the car after 1.5 months; I suppose this is a testament to Tesla Engineering and how easy it is to work on these cars. Although, I...

Attempting to Repair Front Collision Salvaged Tesla

My apologies for the long delay! Here is the latest update: The car is finished! I was able to fix the SRS light by replacing the damaged yellow pigtail connector. I also re-installed the air suspension module without any issues. By that point, the only error I had remaining was the "Park...

Congrats on the SRS! Was this your first time doing it? I asked a friend about the air suspension module, and he said you shouldn’t have to calibrate it with the toolbox. I’m wondering however, did mount it properly on the back of that plastic shroud?

Attempting to Repair Front Collision Salvaged Tesla

I haven’t tried putting the air suspension module back in yet; I’m waiting until I resolve the SRS issue first. Was the air suspension working before you disconnected it? Where are you on the airbags and SRS module?

Attempting to Repair Front Collision Salvaged Tesla

The housing is missing (melted on the old airbag). The pins style should be identical to the red connector (I would imagine). I do agree though, the connector seems damaged and is most likely the cause. Evidently, a good indicator of whether the SRS airbag module is reset and good, is for the...

Attempting to Repair Front Collision Salvaged Tesla

My apologizes @mongo; I did not mention something that is quite important and most likely the obvious cause. So, when removing the dash airbag, I noticed it is dual stage hence the reason it has two connectors (red/yellow). Unfortunately, when the old airbag deployed, the yellow connector...
