Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

All your points above are everyday reality and the technology has to factor them in. If it doesn’t then it should not available on public roads.

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

Drifting to gore lane and hit a barrier at freeway speeds. Does that sounds like malfunction? And if that is the limitation of te technology then it should still be in the lab and not available for general public.

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

This is like the coffee cup warning “contents may be hot” that nobody cares. While the website and their sales office have AP and FSD thrown at your face every step of the way. They even have optional FSD buy option. When I went for my test drive, all TVs played only AP videos. The test drive...

Look at this:) He owns a MX and he expects the AEB to work in that scenario. In fact, most drivers will expect that to work unless they are familiar with the limitations of the tech. There may be many such drivers driving a Tesla expecting it do something that it’s not capable of.

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

Exactly, right now any body can buy and become danger to themselves and others. NTSB/DMVs should find out many Tesla owners and other designated drivers understands all levels of autonomous systems and take away access from who doesn’t. Same process should be put for the new purchases too.

Advanced. Lol. This is how people drive regular cars all the time. This is not rocket science.

Let me rephrase my initial comment, will edit my post too. I did not mean he could not do disengage in time or had difficulty disengaging. I mean could not take corrective measure in time.

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

First, I have driven with AP but I would not call myself experienced. Let me rephrase my initial comment. I did not mean he could not disengage AP in time. I know how easy it is. I mean could not take corrective measure in time. I am trying to make sense of the statement from Tesla. Why would...

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

I do have a problem with this analysis. if you read the Tesla blog https://www.tesla.com/blog/update-last-week’s-accident it says "In the moments before the collision, which occurred at 9:27 a.m. on Friday, March 23rd, Autopilot was engaged with the adaptive cruise control follow-distance set to...

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

This was unnecessary and in bad taste. FUD is better than a false sense of security. The consumers who ask tough questions, stupid questions and even blame the product after not using as intended, they all help make the product better. But, the worst kind of consumers are the fans who will even...

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

I am no way going to let this AP steer for me. I am trying to find out if I lose TACC if I don’t buy EAP. Or if there is an option to personalize AP to not steer or deactivate after certain speed limit. On educating the 7 year old, I myself have doubts have that I can use AP safely. At least...

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

I know that already. Thanks to all the local news channel and repeated coverage of all the Tesla accidents with AP, my 7-year-old has already ordered me not to use AP. Her excitement level has gone down as well since we test drove and reserved ours.

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

I did a little experiment today as I drive the same route every day. In manual mode, I drove my car and veered off the same way as its posted in one of the "recreated scenario" videos. I still haven't got my MX and now its part of the preparation to own it. I just wanted to see how much time I...

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

I for one had this motive. I know others who has the same. Too bad, it took a tragedy to reset my expectations. The reason I am freaked because, I have the same car (not yet arrived) and the commute route and I was planning to do more calls etc to make my 1 hr commute productive. I understand...

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

Most people are buying the car thinking that they can now text and the car will have their back. Otherwise they will be happy to leave the cell phone in the back seat.

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

The cell phone companies doesn’t claim that my phone is safer because it doesn’t distract as much as others while driving. He is dead because he did not read the fine print of a product that he purchased. Pretty steep price to pay.

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

The problem is that AP makes people take eyes off the road. Drivers will be attentive otherwise. This is partly a Tesla problem because the way they are marketing the capabilities. They have put a fully autonomous drive video on Tesla’s website. Tesla haven’t figure out phantom breaking is not...

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

Tesla has already said that the vehicle was in distance 1 setting that would mean if there was a car in front that either went to 85 at the very last moment or drifted left and pulled back to 101s, this vehicle since it was following very close could have got confused about the lane markings.

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

Thanks for sharing. Did the driver trying to take 85? He worked at Apple.

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

Yep. Be safe out there. AP is not the drive assist system but rather the driver is AP assist system. Once that is clear, AP will improve.

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

T You are doing exactly what you are asking me not to do, i.e. declaring a system safe to operate for people of all skill levels and backgrounds. Most of us here are in the field of technology, and we know the limitation of technologies. I agree with the fact that semi-autonomous cars are...

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

This accident hit home for me because for these reasons. I went past the accident site 10-15 min after it happened on the other side of 101. Saw the scene with my own eyes. I ordered my model x few days back, due in June. This route is my everyday commute I was planning to use AP to ease my...

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

Nobody has personal agenda here. We all agree to that AP technology need to be advanced but at what cost? Unfortunately, most drivers don’t understand the limitations as much as you do. They put trust in the AP because Tesla has advertised it in a way that drivers feel it can make your driving...

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

This is insane to claim the driver was at fault. DMV issues a licence on a persons ability to drive and not to take over from a machine from an autopilot situation. NTSB should stop this madness and order tesla to remove autopilot from their cars. Only the people the people who are trained on...
