Long Range, Rear Wheel Drive Owners - Step in Please

June 2018 build, 20k miles. 80%: don't know, used to be 247 before range increase 90%: 285 100%: 317 Rated range increase: kind of, went from 307 at the time to 317. Never saw 320+ Above numbers are best-case; sometimes (maybe half the time) the charge comes in a mile or two less. Peak...

Anyone seen or experiencing 2nd gen seat start deteriorating or tears?

15000 miles, black seats still look great. Kids have spilled/dropped all sorts of crap on them, everything just comes right off with a baby wipe.

SR+ vs LR RWD. How much more pain on a long trip?

For me, the biggest advantage of LR vs SR is the flexibility to choose WHICH SC to stop at, vs. basically having to stop at all of them. Many SCs are great - easy to access, uncrowded, and at places you might want to stop anyway. And then you have some that are out-of-the-way through heavy...

Does anybody notice phantom braking while on TACC with 8.3 or 8.5?

I've never had any totally "phantom" braking that others describe - plenty of times TACC brakes when it shouldn't (car moving out of lane, car turning in front 300 feet away, car drifting over a bit, etc.) and it does seem like maybe it is a bit more sensitive on recent updates, but there is...

    Why no Silver paint option?

IIRC, silver was approximately half as popular as the next-least popular color on Model 3's (black, I think, although that's probably gone way up with the paint price increases and cheaper car options introduced since then.) Too bad; silver was my second choice and now I wish I'd gone with it...

How many Teslas you see a day?

Probably about 3 a week on average now in exurban-rural TN (not counting the 4 that are now owned by people I know!) which is insane - I probably saw about 6 in all of 2018 (besides mine), 2 or 3 in 2017. If I go to Nashville or Franklin/Brentwood (poshy suburbs) I am now guaranteed at least...

    Third-party TeslaOS in-car apps?

Elon was asked exactly this question very recently (can't remember where) and his response was basically "not practical to develop until we reach 10m cars on the road - might think about it at that point."

"$35,000 Tesla Model 3 Available Now"

I just wanted to say that as someone who does generally prefer a good-quality cloth seat vs nappa or other "high-end" leather seats (certainly not to the level of loathing of @realvvk , but generally speaking would pay a grand or two if I absolutely had to to stay away from "real leather,")...

How does this Model 3 have ventilated seats?

Very little in the front - they made the side bolsters a little more pronounced and changed the design of the stitching slightly. Big difference was the rear seat - they added much more padding to the Gen 2 rear seats in response to complaints. The Gen 2 back seat is much more comfortable for...

    Supercharger - Alpharetta, GA

So, these chargers are not available any more at all, even after hours? I’ll be going down in a couple of weeks to visit a friend in this area for a few days - really would like to avoid Chattanooga if at all possible, and it would be possible if there were any kind of viable local charging...

Lost bass speakers and rear channels I only get a cyclic thump

This happened to me last week, a day or two after update to 5.15. Exact symptoms as listed in OP, right as I got off a phone call. Was going to reset when I got to where I was going, but a few minutes later I received another phone call and everything came back, a split second before the phone...

AP - turn signal should not disengage autosteer, per Tesla service

Can confirm now - I just tried it both ways back-to-back on the same multi-lane road (with and without turn signal on) and the steering wheel does move out of autosteer MUCH easier when the turn signal is on. It does need to be moved though. Mystery solved, I think! :D

AP - turn signal should not disengage autosteer, per Tesla service

Well now we're getting to the crux of it. Thanks for posting that! Maybe all the people who reported that their turn signals were turning off autosteer were/are having the same "mass hallucination."
  14. B

AP - turn signal should not disengage autosteer, per Tesla service

Yes. I don't think so. I made it very clear in the request that I was talking about the new AP and not EAP and said something about "instead of auto lane change", so if he were talking about EAP he would have mentioned auto lane change.

AP - turn signal should not disengage autosteer, per Tesla service

I made a service appointment this morning (for next Monday) in order to investigate what is happening with the new basic autopilot and turn signal disengage that so many have reported. Here’s a short text convo just a bit ago: The only additional context I can add is that these guys cover a...

My model 3 hit a deer

I worry about this a lot - I live in a deer-filled rural area and have had a couple of close calls. Having just recently acquired AP on my car, I wonder if it's safer deer-wise to use TACC on these back roads, or not? Presumably the car can see them well before I can, but may not necessarily...

    Anyone Guess How Many Pre-orders

My guess would be somewhere between 25,000 and 50,000. The M3 reveal was a HUGE deal, nationwide - it was how I first became more than cursorily aware of Tesla, really. EVERYONE knew about it and everybody and their brother with a thousand bucks to spare went and plunked it down, in hopes of...

Reduced price Autopilot & FSD for existing owners announced March 1st

Same here. Based on all the reports I’ve read on here of something else happening, I’m planning to put in a service request on Tuesday to investigate (assuming I’m able to make it through tomorrow without cracking and ordering FSD - I’m 99% sure I won’t, but you never know. ;))

Tesla Debuts Model Y Crossover SUV – 7 Seats, 300 Miles of Range

Most people who don't live on the coasts can finance a Tesla just with the housing savings alone vs. residents of CA, NY, etc. Our household income is around that (maybe slightly more) and while it may not have been the most fiscally-responsible decision I've ever made, I'm certainly in no...

Will the Model Y have third row seating?

Hmm. I don't need to seat 7, but what I do really want is to be able to seat 5 FULL-sized people comfortably, which no traditional 2-row "5-seater" vehicle can do. I notice that the second row seats all fold independently, including the middle seat. So I'm wondering if with the middle seat...

What does a Model Y deposit get you??

Who said they were even doing reservations? When asked on an earnings call a couple of quarters ago if they would use a similar reservation system for Model Y, Elon said they weren't sure, and AFAIK there hasn't been a word about it. The Model 3 reservation system was known about well in...

    Final decision before ordering

If I were a realtor in Houston (and I have been a realtor, and have lived in Houston, though not at the same time...) I would certainly prioritize range/efficiency and having Navigate on Autopilot over a 2nd motor/better 0-60 time. NoA is all but useless where I live now, but I think on 610...
  23. B

    Any last minute guesses?

The Model Y will have a definite focus on marketing towards women/moms. Integrated rear touchscreens with TeslAtari would be an obvious choice (they've been hiring game developers...)

If I purchase AP thru website, how long will it take to become operational

3 months maybe, 6 months definitely.
  25. B

What BEVs are you cross-shopping against the Model Y?

It will be interesting to see how the Model Y will stack up against a well-used Model X, which should be available in the same price range by the time they are in production (much like the Model 3 vs. 2014 Model S debate.)

Can owners that purchased $2K AP confirm if Auto Lane Change is included please?

Auto lane change is not included. Some users in another thread said that instead activating the turn signal disengages autosteer, but I have not found that to be the case on my car either. That WOULD be helpful as an alternative...

    Does key fob summon work?

Can anyone who has received the latest update (2019.7.x) and has the M3 key fob please weigh in on whether/how well the new "summon with key fob" feature works? I can't find where anything has been said about it in actual real-world use. This would be a key data point for me in deciding...

If I purchase AP thru website, how long will it take to become operational

Just got to try mine out for the first time and I don’t have this issue, following distance via scroll wheel works. I didn’t notice any bugs and didn’t get any nags at all while continuously engaged for ~5 minutes on local roads. Has “no auto lane change” been confirmed on an interstate? I...

If I purchase AP thru website, how long will it take to become operational

That’s really unfortunate. I make A LOT of lane changes if I’m on the interstate. Definitely can’t complain though! If summon is actually going to work now via bluetooth/keyfob reliably, that would get me at least halfway to justifying the $3k cost for FSD. Hmmm...

If I purchase AP thru website, how long will it take to become operational

Didn’t have it 45 minutes ago when I left my kid’s school. Made one stop for food on the way back. Checked the AP menu after pulling in my garage and voila! No notification or anything. Autosteer and cruise follow distance are just there now.

If I purchase AP thru website, how long will it take to become operational

Software update just arrived for me as well, and I am always literally the last to get the standard software updates (no wifi...), so pretty strong evidence that it is correlated to AP purchase.

If I purchase AP thru website, how long will it take to become operational

Purchased AP at 4:51 am 3/6 - still no sign of anything. No connectivity in my garage so I've been leaving my car outside - at least I got a decent wash from Mother Nature this morning! Pretty sure they had to write new code to push only the AP features instead of what they already had for...

Reduced price Autopilot & FSD for existing owners announced March 1st

I agree that if someone who purchased this were to not receive any of the stated abilities because of a required hardware upgrade, that would be fraud: However, the "full self driving" currently available to me for $3,000 is much different: Full Self Driving Capability - Navigate on...

Reduced price Autopilot & FSD for existing owners announced March 1st

It's not impossible; SOME upcoming FSD features (such as advanced summon) may not require a hardware upgrade. At the point where the hardware upgrade is REALLY required (wherever that is) they could be like "OK, we're going to to deliver these features to your car, but you're going to need a...

Reduced price Autopilot & FSD for existing owners announced March 1st

"It’s not exactly symmetric, but it will come with HW3 upgrade long-term." This was in response to someone pointing out the differences in total prices paid between the 3 different groups. FWIW, I interpreted this tweet differently when I first read it, and I think I still do. I think he...

If you didn't order EAP at $5K, would you buy AP+FSD for $5K now?

Way ahead of ya - AP purchase made at 4:51 this morning. What, not everybody wakes up and checks their Tesla account while using the john? :p Of note was that when I tried to buy from my phone I received an error. Tried again a few minutes later from a PC and it worked. Now waiting...

Reduced price Autopilot & FSD for existing owners announced March 1st

Gee, I sure hope that nobody around here who is shouting from the rooftops about their indignation over a relatively small group of people (who have less disposable income in general) being offered a safety-enhancing technology at a price lower than what they paid, would also shout from the...
  39. B

Tesla makes more off of a EAP convert than selling a 35K Model 3.

Seems to me they have killed several birds with one stone. I'd think they're in about this order: 1) Anecdotally, the take rate on $5k AP seems to have tanked pretty heavily on the MR (and presumably will even more on new lower-spec models.) The $3k "basic" AP offer is much more tempting for...

Model Y Desired Features and Options

Ample passenger space for at least 4 Big & Tall people, a la Model X (I have a sickening feeling they are going to bork this by trying to cram in a 3rd row, although I also WOULD like a usable 3rd row if it is actually somehow possible...)
  41. B

If you didn't order EAP at $5K, would you buy AP+FSD for $5K now?

I'll buy AP for $2k the second the link at that price goes live. Mainly for TACC, but autosteer is also great about once every 3 months when I take a multi-hour highway trip. I was itching to pay $3k for it when I saw the original announcements, but $2k is also acceptable. :D The FSD? Eh...

New Auto Pilot Pricing. Is it Worth it?

I have sent a message to Tesla to see if they will honor the $3k price for those of us who have never at any point had an opportunity to buy any AP features at $3k. Hopes are not high (i'm sure the focus will be on FSD pricing for those who already bought AP) but maybe if enough of us chime in...

New regular AP as upgrade for older Model 3s?

For me personally this is my #1 question after today - if I can buy the "E-free" AP for $3k right now, Tesla can have my money just as fast as I can click "buy." I've been checking the status of possible software upgrades in my account - 2 hours ago there were none, now it shows that I can...

    Tesla Model 3 comfort?

As noted earlier in this thread I am 6'9", and I have 2 kids who ride in the back seat regularly - a 10-year-old who is now 5'8", and a 7-year-old who is 4'9". I MUST have the seat at the lowest position, and obviously my preferred position is all the way back as well. My 10-year-old can't...

    Tesla Model 3 comfort?

Legroom (both front and rear) is identical. Headroom, front visibility, rear visibility are all much better in the 3. Rear seat in the S is about 4" wider (if you're going to squeeze 3 people in the back of the 3, they better all be thin.) Even if I had the cash and the Model 3 didn't exist...

Obvious features/functions that weren't obvious to you

Hmmm. Happens when I move forward without a seatbelt as well, but only at very low speed (<3 mph.) If I "gun it" out of the garage it doesn't happen, but I'm not really comfortable doing that... I assumed it just wasn't distinguishing between very slight acceleration and inadvertent rolling...
  47. B

Obvious features/functions that weren't obvious to you

I really wish I could turn this feature OFF - my garage space is pretty tight on the sides and so if I am taking passengers I first have to back out of the garage so they can get in, generally a few minutes before actually leaving. If I don't put on my seat belt and start to back out slowly, it...

Has anyone received any recent updates over CELLULAR?

The techs at my SC (Nashville) said that that works; other users here have stated that you need to have an open service ticket on your vehicle to get auto-updated on SC wifi, and others still have said that it doesn't necessarily work at all. Not sure who to believe - it may vary by the SC...

    Tesla Model 3 comfort?

Hahahaha. I'm 6'9" and the Model 3 is the best vehicle I've ever been in that didn't cost over $100k (S-class or Rolls Royce...) 34" inseam, ridiculously long torso - it's the ONLY vehicle besides a Model X I've ever driven that I can drive sitting up completely straight; the headroom is...

Does voice command feature work for anyone? particularly for maps?

I had problems like this early on - was hitting about 50% for the first few weeks with whether it would recognize anything and if it didn't, it probably wouldn't for the rest of that drive. For whatever reason (Updates? Learning my voice? Gremlins ejected?) it has gradually gotten better over...
