2022 Model 3 Performance trade up to 2023 Model S Plaid - handling differences

How "open" does the S feel to you compared to the 3? One of my problems with the S is my head feels surprisingly cramped, almost like the headliner is too big and my head is too close to it. I'm not sure if it's because I haven't found the right seat position (since I've only driven...

2022 Model 3 Performance trade up to 2023 Model S Plaid - handling differences

I have a 2018 Model 3 Performance, and test drove a Model S LR over the weekend on a whim. My comparison: Performance and handling S is noticeably quicker off the line than the 3P. S feels much stronger at 70 mph compared to the 3P, which really tapers off at that speed. S handling is more...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Really hoping for this. I have a 2018 Model 3 Performance and have thought of a Plaid S, but I'd really prefer something smaller and more nimble.

    Rattle / Squeak while driving

If you're handy, I'd suggest fixing it yourself. The front dash detaches fairly easily, and you can probably repair any squeak by applying foam tape wherever there's direct plastic-to-plastic contact. In my case, Tesla repaired some of the rattling/squeaking by adding tape, but they missed an...

Anyone successfully fix this door rattle?

I added felt tape to the zip tie, and felt tape to the door frame itself. I remember adding it to only the zip tie but it still squeaked pretty badly due to how tight the space was.

Anyone successfully fix this door rattle?

I didn't have this rattle, but had a squeaking sound inside my passenger door that I traced to a zip tie on the cabling leading to the latch. The zip tie was rubbing against the interior metal and producing the awful squeaking. In my case, the zip tie was trimmed pretty much to the base. It was...

I need to know about your rattles....

Take a look at I need to know about your rattles.... where I describe the felt tape fix. Amazon has some; I think I got this one. Agreed, if you're not handy with disassembling things then it may be difficult. I can tell you that removing the front speaker grill is by far the most frustrating...

I need to know about your rattles....

Is it coming from the wooden dash? If so, that's relatively easy to remove. The problem is that the entire bottom is plastic, and there's plastic-on-plastic contact that can result in a variety of rattles and screeching sounds. The solution is to cover all the contact point with a felt tape, and...

    Rattle: SOLVED.

OP's rattle with the wheel well liner sounds like the problem in Consistent driver side rattle at speed. I posted pictures of my fix in that thread.

    Banging noise over bumps

I have a similar noise. It sounds like large marbles rolling around or creaking, and initially only happened on bumps, but now I hear it pretty much everywhere. I took it into Tesla 3 times before they finally acknowledged the sound and would even take a look. Once they did that, they...

Consistent driver side rattle at speed

Have you tried pressing on the liner to see if you can make a rattling sound? Once I did that, I realized that it sounded very similar to the rattling sound that had been bugging me. I actually tried to fix it twice. The first time involved taping the top of the liner, but it didn’t help. It...

Consistent driver side rattle at speed

I wrapped the edge of the liner with that tape. I didn’t tape the liner to anything else like the quarter panel. The closest analogy I can think of is that part of the liner is bleeding, and I wrapped that spot in the tape like a bandaid.

Consistent driver side rattle at speed

See attached. This is the front right wheel well. I cut out a small rectangular piece of foam tape (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004J64OOO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1), then wrapped it around the wheel well liner in that circled green area. Note that my rattle actually...

Consistent driver side rattle at speed

Mine had clips in the wheel wells. If you press on the well, you can hear the rattling sound (it's basically the wheel well liner banging against the front quarter panel). I fixed it by adding some felt tape to the bottom edge of the liner. This wasn't actually the location of the rattle, but it...

I need to know about your rattles....

I'm glad that they were able to fix things for you. I actually had a mobile appointment scheduled for today to get the ranger to hear the suspension rattling, but it happened to be raining today (terrible luck). I didn't want to chance the rain masking any noise issues like my last service...

I need to know about your rattles....

I found some pictures of the dash on Ebay, and circled the areas that had felt tape applied in my car. The circled areas contain plastic "feet"; they're literally bits of plastic jutting out. Before disassembling the dash, I thought there would only be 1 or 2 obvious contact points where the...

What Kind of Car Did The Model 3 Replace?

2013 Honda Fit. I still have the Honda for its carrying capacity (hatchbacks are very useful), and to drive into places with questionable parking. I always thought I was going fast in my Honda once I reached 70, and especially 75. 80 is on rare occasions when the stars align (no one cuts me...

Tesla service - still abysmal "the mailbox is full"

Best of luck to you. I found the Bellevue service center to be completely unresponsive with text messages. It's just a source of false hope. I had better luck emailing the service department, but it still took days for them to respond.

Model 3 - Creaking Coming from the Front at Low Speeds

I have a similar sound. Mine is most noticeable at low speeds, especially when turning. It seems to be getting louder over time, and now happens all the time, on all types of roads. I took it into Tesla service but it was raining that day and they couldn't hear a thing, and were rather...

I need to know about your rattles....

Also an update to my own rattles after driving it for a week: the car is significantly quieter now. There are still little noises that I hear while driving, but it's nothing like the constant rattling from before, and it's honestly probably livable. I'm certainly not itching to take apart the...

I need to know about your rattles....

Can you narrow down the rattle by pressing on things when it occurs? Is it from the dash itself, or the A pillar trim? If it's the A pillar, I suspect it's the red part highlighted in the attached image. I noticed that it attaches to the dash grill without any insulation, so it's plastic on...

I need to know about your rattles....

I know you didn't ask about this, but in case you're curious about the effort to do this yourself, probably not worth it unless you can constantly hear it. With the front doors you can disassemble enough of it by removing the trim/unscrewing various bolts to get access to the interior, but...

I need to know about your rattles....

I put together a quick guide on the latch harness squeak (the one triggered by the armrest): Model 3 Rattles - front_door_latch_harness_squeak The harness squeak is nearly impossible to record because of the tight location (I'd likely have to get an inspection scope; even a GoPro was too big to...

I need to know about your rattles....

Quick update, I found the exact part that was rubbing inside the door frame. It was the zip tie for the wire harness near the door latch, rubbing against the plastic cover for the door latch assembly. I had to work completely blind since it's in such a tight spot, but managed to pop out the clip...

Anyone removed grille at front of dash? Rattle driving me nuts.

Take a look at for a visual of how to remove the grill. As for pictures for the steps I listed, they don't exist. I was pretty frustrated after spending hours trying to reassemble the thing (the clips popped off 3-4 times), and just wanted to sleep at 2 am.

Anyone removed grille at front of dash? Rattle driving me nuts.

I wish I had discovered this thread earlier. I disassembled my grill too and thought it was easy, but reassembling the thing was an absolute nightmare. Took me several hours to put it back together (and I had to disassemble it again halfway through because while driving I suddenly heard one of...

I need to know about your rattles....

Can you link to videos where only the trim piece is removed? I removed the entire assembly too, and I think the wood trim is pretty firmly stuck onto the assembly and not easily removable by itself. Yesterday I decided to remove the dash grill since I found a video on how to do it and it looked...

I need to know about your rattles....

There are a couple decent videos on it. Try this one: . The dash is attached with plastic clips so you don't even need a screwdriver, and there are very few pieces so you don't have to worry about losing things or reassembling it in the wrong order. I'll see if I can find time to do this. I...

I need to know about your rattles....

My August 2018 Model 3 has turned into rattle factory. It's actually pretty disappointing since I love the car otherwise, but it's noisier than my 6-year old $18K Honda Fit :( I've taken it into the Bellevue service center multiple times, and they're pretty ineffective: - First time: The tech...

    Rattle / Squeak while driving

I have a similar rattle/squeak but on the front passenger side. I've taken it into the service center twice, and they seem to be skirting around the problem and adding more insulating tape where it doesn't matter. It's so aggravating (and the service center so poor) that I'm considering...

Consistent driver side rattle at speed

Hope this isn't too late, but try pressing on the wheel well liners. I had a very similar-sounding rattle for the past 10 months, and I finally traced them to the wheel well last week. My sound only happens at higher speeds (40-50 mph) and also seemed wind dependent. My fix ended up being super...

How long did it take you get used to no dash screen?

Before getting my car, I was somewhat concerned about the lack of physical controls and the center touch screen. They ended up being among the biggest non-issues with the Model 3. I got used to the speedometer location within 5 minutes. I clearly remember seeing that it was in the different...

    Model 3 Performance - 1 month

Keep in mind that my previous car is a Honda Fit, so the 3 is quite nice in comparison. I had a P85D loaner briefly, but it rattled quite a bit. I haven’t sat in many other S to properly compare.

How do you carry house keys?

I have Schlage smart locks so I don’t carry keys. Now I just walk around with my wallet and phone. One downside is that I forget to check the mail pretty often since I have a locked mailbox, and I never have the mailbox key on me.

    Model 3 Performance - 1 month

I actually discovered that almost immediately when I first got the car. The power does noticeably drop off above 60 mph. But realistically for me, 75-80 is about the upper end of how I drive, and there's still quite an abundance of power for passing at 90 mph. A part of me does desire the...

    P3D+ experience

I have that fear from going too fast, but it's from a safety perspective. It's fun to feel the rush, but I have no desire to cause accidents so I usually let go at around the speed limit. One thing I've noticed is that it's quite easy to manage your speed because of the regen and the...

    Model 3 Performance - 1 month

I've had my P3D almost exactly 2 months now, about 2950 miles. Does the acceleration get old? Nope. I still go on ridiculous driving routes just to drive the car and accelerate onto the freeway. The only thing is that traffic is pretty bad around here, so opportunities to safely floor it are...

Is the performance to "easy" to get yourself in trouble

I've driven slow cars my entire life, but decided that after my Honda Fit I would get a fast car. Before getting my P3D, I didn't quite believe it when people said that it's more power than anyone would need for commuting. But they're right, no one needs this level of performance for commuting...

    Model 3 Performance - 1 month

So a quick update after owning the car for a month. TLDR: It's awesome and I love the car even more than when I first got it. Performance: The instant acceleration is still addicting. The car simply goes, at any speed. I had to turn on the speeding chime because I found myself accidentally...

    Wind noise seems somewhat obtrusive

I've started noticing wind noise on mine too. I thought it was a rattle at first, since the sound is a bit sharp, but I went on a drive yesterday with a Tesla technician and he said it was wind noise. Honestly, though, a bit of music will drown it out pretty quickly, and it's already the...

    A Friendly Tesla Wave?

I've waved at a couple drivers, but that was while heading to a Tesla meetup. The funniest time was when I came across another Model 3, and the other driver and I craned our necks so much we almost broke them in order to look at each other's cars. I'm sure he had the same thought as me...

Am I going to regret the aero wheels?

I spent way more time than reasonable trying to decide between 18" and 20" wheels. I liked the look of the sport wheels way more than the aero wheels, but ultimately went with the 18s once I realized I'll be road tripping a lot, and I'd rather have extra side wall. After I took delivery, I...

    Model 3 brief review

Yeah, I didn't expect to be so excited to lose my keys. Turns out it's liberating to not have something that feels like a pile of rocks in my pants pocket, or to hear random keys jingling as I drive. The constant theme I get with my Model 3 is that it fixes things that I didn't even realize were...

Here's a brief review of my Model 3 Performance | Red | Black interior | 18" wheels | EAP delivery after owning it for 3 days. do you drive better or worse, faster or slower than in the past?

It's been a mixture. I'm actually way calmer and driving the speed limit since I'm still getting used to the car and want to avoid dings before I get paint protection installed. But I'm punching it often and randomly taking freeway detours just so I can slam the accelerator at the onramp.

Red model 3 performance EAP black interior scheduled for delivery August 3rd in Bellevue WA. I registered on 5/31 in store. Tesla Lent Me a P3D for the Night!

Awesome thanks for the detailed review! Can you comment on the ride quality of the 20” tires vs 18” if you’ve ridden those? I have a P3 ordered but I’m on the fence between the performance upgrade and its larger brakes and 20” wheels vs regular with its 18” aero wheels.

How frequent is everyone seeing 3s in the Seattle area?
