Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

I don't know the history of the pricing of these parts ... so I cannot directly answer your question. Oregon doesn't have sales tax, so the prices I referenced were simply what I paid for parts and labor. However, I should have stated before that my parts installation costs included not only...

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

I guess there is a chance that the "new ones" would have the same problem if they replaced them with the new-old-stock of the older repeater design. But if they actually replace with the new/current design cameras, the problem should be completely resolved. That was my experience, but I had to...

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

Sept 2018 M3 LR build here with light leakage ... affecting roughly the top 50% of the image at night (when the blinkers are lit). Created service ticket. Was given the stock "normal operation" text. I was told I could replace them on my own dime. I agreed but also corrected their replacement...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

I am not griping. After my initial sharing of my experience, all I have been trying to do is answer questions of the "OP" as they have come up ... in order to remain responsive to the people's thoughts on a topic that I bore the responsibility of starting. I am not trying to convince anyone of...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

Completely true, I never paid for it. I didn't "suspect" it because, as I stated in #63 ... upon delivery, the delivery specialist verbally said something to me about the "stealth performance" that my vehicle was coming with. I didn't know, at that time, that I should have expected such a...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

Apologies if I confused the issue. I was trying to tackle the situation from multiple perspectives: some might care about the unceremonious removal for their own purposes/enjoyment ... and others might care about the removal as it could impact the market valuation calculation (surprisingly...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

No, as I didn't have reason to suspect it ... because as I previously stated, I am not a performance driver. I never "floor it" ... much less floor it while timing it. The car has sufficient power that I never have had a real-world driving need to do so. But whether or not I used the capability...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

I honestly do not know the anwer to that question, as I haven't frequented my online account very much. The only thing I know for sure is that it showed as performance by virtue of the red underline in-car, the red underline in the phone app, and the track mode in-car,

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

That is correct. The only official Tesla documentation I have in my possession where "P" appears was in the 2020 service invoice (18 months after delivery) for adding the P exterior badging (which was a service call initiated by Tesla, not by me). Prior to this discussion (and this series of...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

I am not remotely close to a lawyer ... but I think a critical point here would be that, in the case of the theoretical turbo charger removal situation, a dealer/manufacturer would be laughed out of court (or arbitration) if they took action to remove/reduce the functionality of the vehicle...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

I do not know which update removed it. I only know it was "in 2021" because that is what I was told by Tesla service when I asked them to look into this. At first they were baffled, then after some further research, they came back and told me that it occurred in 2021 ... and that my vehicle...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

What Tesla told me in June 2022 is "it isn't a performance and never was". When I took delivery, it definitely had the red underline in the screen (I have a screenshot to that effect from a few days after delivery). I noticed it then ... but made the (apparently bad) assumption that this was a...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

I would agree with this wholeheartedly. The thing I don't understand is those who seem to justify this as a "free trial" (along with an implication that I am somehow not behaving/thinking about this situation reasonably) ... is: when, in their minds, should I be able to reasonably think that...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

I think we can all probably agree that the real solution here is for Tesla to configure and deliver vehicles matching the MVPA out of the gate. My situation might have been due to "growing pains" and could be something that no longer is a problem at Tesla. No idea about that. I think we can...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

That's sweet! Tesla's willingness to do "off-menu" options if you call them (or, in your case, went through your SA) ... has always been a bit surprising to me. But I am happy for you and your ride! :)

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

That is an interesting (and scary) story! It just reinforces what @davewill pointed out originally in this thread: that Tesla needs to do better on the topic of software configuration audit & validation. As connected cars, they are highly dependent upon their software, and the associated...

I believe you are correct. Thank you for taking the time to clarify your previous message. The situation is a shame, but that's life.

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

Sorry to instill fear. I only meant to instill caution. Maybe you are in the clear because my de-spec'ing apparently happened in 2021. If your 2018 survived the 2021 update, then seems reasonable to assume that your vehicle was a legit stealth performance, unlike mine. If this makes you lose...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

I agree with much of everything you said, especially: - "you should have never been able to leave the lot with the car being a P, or they should have caught it much sooner (like within a few days)" ... 100% - "still, tesla needs to do better on their auditing." ... yes, and this is the...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

You have knowledge about those details that I don't possess. But I trust what you are saying. So it may be this specific issue is restricted to certain model years (e.g., 2018-early 19). However, the general problem could still manifest, say for exxample with other software-only-enabled...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

I 100% agree davewill, thank you for your reply. This is one of the fundamental reasons why I posted this experience. It is NOT, as Sam1 seems to want to characterize, as me being "upset about not getting something you never paid for". That isn't the point of sharing my story. The point is...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

No I never paid for Stealth Performance. The car came configured that way and stayed that way until a 2021 update, when it was removed. Tesla themselves seemed to be confused about the car's configuration as they installed the performance badging on it in 2020 (18 months post-purchase).
  24. S

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

I don't personally notice a performance difference ... because I am not a performance driver. I am only "complaining" (to use your language) because the "market value" of my car is potentially reduced by an unadvertised software configuration change, that reduced its capability, around 3 years...
  25. S

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

That is an inaccurate generalization. I am not upset about "not getting something I didn't pay for". What I am mildly disturbed by is having something which might represent a higher market value of my vehicle ... removed from the vehicle that I drove away from the Service Center with without any...

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

Thank you for those options. I appreciate it. I am not going to pursue performance options (either Tesla boost or 3rd party) ... as I don't need them for my particular style of driving. But I do appreciate hearing your ideas.
  27. S

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

No I didn't really notice a change in the performance ... but I am not a performance-pushing driver, it just isn't my style. So I don't have a good data point for the difference.

    2018 Model 3 "stealth performance" ... that actually isn't

I wanted to relate a story in the event that it might have happened to other people too. I took delivery of my M3LR during the mad Q3 2018 M3 delivery push. I received my vehicle in the frenzy of trying to get as many units in customers' hands before the end of the quarter. I did not pay for...
