TESLA Roadster Sport in Bricks - IB002

Last night my adult son and I assembled ours. It's quite cool, with your choice of V1.5 shift lever or later push buttons. It even has a battery and PEM, but the trunk, while it has a pivot mechanism, does not open to see what's inside. The pivot just enables the trunk to slope down. We removed...

Reported Range went down after charging!?!

OVMS V3 user here, Roadster V2.5 with R80 battery upgrade (2020 version) Got home from Tesla Takeover with relatively low ideal range left (25Miles Standard, 58Miles Range), and decided to do an OVMS Cooldown charge first. Look at the screenshot from the OVMS message history. At one point...

New Tesla branded chargers with original Roadster?

While traveling to/from the Tesla Takeover last weekend, I had problems charging at two different destination chargers. One is the old ex-RaboBank charger (was 70 amps) in Atascadero, the other at the Adeline Inn in Paso Robles. In both cases I attached the adapter to the plug, and then attached...

New Roadster 4.0 Battery developement with Model S cells

Good point, as without Battery, PEM, VDS, and motor, what's left over is basically the glider as sent to Menlo Park from Lotus in England. But, a Roadster with a water-cooled Model 3 motor/PEM sounds pretty enticing to me and would probably hold up fairly well in the resale market if it works...

3.0 Batteries from 2016 experiencing issues.

My 2021 3.0 pack is about 22 months old now. CAC has dropped from to 210.901 when installed to 198.37 today Only 5,131 miles driven - I need to get out more!

    Today's Roadster Orphan

Sounds suspicious to me. I bought my 2011 Roadster new from the Menlo Park assembly/showroom. It had 25 miles on the Odometer. Zero sounds like someone reset the odometer. And if they've been sitting that long, the batteries are probably long since bricked. May be recoverable, I don't know.

208 Volts indicate that they have 3 phase power coming in. A link: 208 Volts Is a Weird Voltage. Jacking up the Roadster, revisited

So the Vevor air jack arrived. Had sort-of instructions for use, none for assembly, but it was straightforward. Fits under the Roadster pretty easily and has its own rubber pad: Raises smoothly: (lowers smoothly and very controllably, too) Note that it is tilted when raised (this isn't...

Thanks for that link. Interesting that they felt the need to tout their upgraded internals, as that implies the previous version was prone to failure. I do wonder about many of these Chinese made jacks since safety would be very damaging. Which is probably why I overdid the jack I bought in 2013...

    Roadster 3.0

Yes, I've been considering it. But the requirements are pretty high: 1) Can't reduce airflow 2) Can't just itself clog up easier/faster than the fan 3) Needs to be cleanable as easily as the fan (I can reach it without removing wheels with a $7 extension I bought for my compressed air gun. 4)...

Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

OK, so the MAC address specification seems to work. I'll have to drive away and drive back to confirm. Does the Control for "Features" and "Parameters" mean anything anymore, or is stuff like "CAN Write" and Cooldown and ACC #1 obsolete? thanks!

Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

OK, I'll try the MAC address specification thing. At this location, the Extender's network has the stronger signal. So I'm guessing that somehow OVMS is not able to use that, even though other devices are using it. I may have to force it to the main router's (weaker) signal.

I think my OVMS is having trouble connecting to WiFi because I have a Wireless Extender and so it looks to OVMS that there are two networks with the same SSID. Roadster 3.0

OK, someone off-board pointed out that the "same cells as before" probably doesn't refer to the original cells as I interpreted it to mean, but same cells as the initial 3.0 battery upgrades. Roadster 3.0

Almost certainly not, and No and No: First, think about it: If the cells are the same and the firmware is the same, then what is telling them to charge to 4.35v? Second, from where is Tesla sourcing cells that were first available in 2006? I'm not sure if they were LG or Panasonic...

Question regarding Bosal 2" Receiver Adapter

OK, I misunderstood what you meant by "worst position." But that's because that's not how Bosal or anyone specs these things. The sticker says: "Max vertical load for max 2 bikes" so that would seem to preclude using the worst positions in a 4 bike rack. There are 5 bike racks out there, too -...
  31. smorgasbord

Question regarding Bosal 2" Receiver Adapter

No, 4 bikes is the worst since that moves the center of mass further away from the car, assuming when you load 2 bikes you load them at the closest to the car positions, which most people would.
  32. smorgasbord

Question regarding Bosal 2" Receiver Adapter

Well, just because the Tesla vertical arm is 32" long doesn't mean that the center of mass of the combined bike rack and bikes is anywhere near that distance. I believe the center of mass is what should be used in the torque calculation. For instance, using a 40 lbs platform bike rack that holds...

Roadster Charger not working - how to take it apart?

I hesitate to ask, but since the picture you included doesn't show it, are you sliding the gray button towards the car? It won't charge until you do. If that's not the issue, then look at the body of the charger and tell us if the green/red lights are lit and/or blinking. The UMC also has a...

    Replacing the 12V aux Battery

Looking at sizes, the YTX9-BS is, I think, the standard size for V2+ Roadsters. Those are 5.9" Long, 3.4" Wide & 4.2" with Positive on left, Negative on right. Replacing the 12V aux Battery

I don't yet need another 12v battery, but I came across these. Anyone know if one of these lithium replacements would be suitable for a v2.5 Roadster? Or, should I just continue to stick with AGM style lead-acid batteries? I think I'm on my second after 11 years. I know from experience that...

    Brad Templeton's F rating of Tesla's FSD

We've lost the context of the original statement: Which, by mentioning that others use 3D data, is saying that the "LIDAR grayscale image" is 2D. The word "image" itself is inconsistent with the "point cloud" phrase typically used to describe what lidar produces, which is 3D. And note that...

    Brad Templeton's F rating of Tesla's FSD

Mobileye retains old data longer than Tesla. Some of that data is 25 years old, according to Mobileye. Tesla doesn't need to retain it all. Tesla simply tells the vehicles what it wants when it wants it. Mobileye doesn't have that opportunity since almost no OEMs let ME push OTA updates to the...

    Brad Templeton's F rating of Tesla's FSD

They don't return 2D grayscale images, as was claimed. Storing such images on vehicles to aid in identifying where the vehicles is is not a scalable solution, as I described. I was reporting on how Nvidia itself says their maps are generated, which include a variety of methods. The better maps...

    Brad Templeton's F rating of Tesla's FSD

    1) There is no such thing as a "LIDAR grayscale image." LIDAR sensors return an uncolored 3D point cloud. Any desired shading/colorization must be added as a post-processing step using either additional input sources and/or AI that uses multiple frames to figure out which points are a thing...

    Brad Templeton's F rating of Tesla's FSD

The "used properly" caveat is important here. It's easy as a Monday-morning quarterback to say when to use/not use the maps, it's harder in real-time while driving. We agree the maps are useful as a predictor of what is was there, but I believe the car has to always be prepared to override that...

    Brad Templeton's F rating of Tesla's FSD

There are many contradictions in this. First, the car sensors win over the map. But, then trust the map because it was made with more data and more CPU. But, then maybe the map is out of date. But then the map was made with better sensors and angles (from non-frequently visiting sources). And...

    Brad Templeton's F rating of Tesla's FSD

Since you say vehicles today sometimes can't tell what lanes are really there then how do they know when to trust what they're seeing over what the map says? The only possible answer lies in the neural net score certainty percentage. If the car is very uncertain about what it's seeing then...

    Roadster 3.0

The problem with "if it's not broke, don't fix it" is that when it does break, Tesla may not want, or be able, to perform the upgrade. Originally, my plan was to continually defer the actual upgrade (after putting down the $5k deposit) as long as my battery gave me decent range, but when the...
