Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

If Tesla has more models, does focussed marketing I believe it can take a higher market share.

Impressive foresight and achievement by JB Straubel.

Keys thing to watch for is public data on FSD. Any major improvements will become apparent.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

You would think so but in reality Elon runs the show and when he feels it personally logic goes out of the window.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The problem with this theory is where are the battery’s going to come from? The same applies to the RT as well.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

With regards to point 3, as soon as the model Y scaled up, Tesla could have made arrangements with the battery companies for more battery’s in a few years whilst working on designing a more “normal truck” And a smaller/cheaper vehicle. In such a timeline we might have had both vehicles selling...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I don’t see any proactive plan to do this, some think interest rate cuts will help but I suspect in a few months incentives and discounts will be back.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Another reason which is not helping sales is that Tesla can’t sell directly to customers in many states. We seem to have accepted this but many people still have the buying from a physical location mindset.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I don’t think Elon has thought through the consequences because if no significant growth forecast in the next few years the share price will drop and he may be forced to sell the shares he has put up for collateral. It’s only a matter of time before some Wall Street players decide on this...

    2024; Tesla's Tipping Point?

Long but a good post about what’s gone wrong:

I don’t think he is even thinking that far ahead. When he has an idea it’s very difficult to dissuade him.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

This article confirms my view that going all in on the cyberattack and the 4680 lead is to todays situation. “With everything going well, Musk tackled his own pet peeve, "boredom," by launching the all-stainless steel-bodied pickup, the Cybertruck. According to the "Biography of Musk," when...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

We can’t have a discussion about this as some people have heads in sand syndrome. I don’t know about China but I think despite the economic situation and Elons behaviour in the US and Europe enough people can afford to buy the two models to match the maximum production possible. Tesla should...

Make your robotaxi predictions for the 8/8 reveal

My prediction is that Because the Reuters article forced Elons hand between now and the 8/8 the team will be frantically working to be able to show a product. Elon will make many far fetched claims about what the car will be able to do and give unrealistic timelines.

Make your robotaxi predictions for the 8/8 reveal

I hope someone has the courage to ask on the earnings call what will happen if FSD is not approved in the next 5-10 years and tesla has only two mass market vehicles.
  17. M

    2024; Tesla's Tipping Point?

Irrelevant. With 2 mass market models the overall sales will not increase as much going forward. No other mass markets products in the pipeline for a few years means sales will flatline.
  18. M

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I agree with the first part of your post but not the second. The 4680 delay is on Elon and now he is repeating the same mistake by going all in on the robotaxi. The Mexico factory has stopped because it was supposed to build the smaller/ cheaper vehicle. It’s redundant now in effect as Tesla’s...
  19. M

    2024; Tesla's Tipping Point?

Yep, this year is a disaster. Bad decisions made in previous years ( not preparing alternative battery production to the 4680s and not working on a conventional truck and a smaller/cheaper vehicle) plus the leader’s antics have all combined to get us where we are. Now it looks like it’s...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Slight difference between Twitter and tesla. If Twitter goes down for a while so what ? Tesla needs x number of staff to actually make physical products, if these are being cut then it is a demand problem. Also every year more Tesla’s are on the road. Every year as more of them get older...

In dictatorships it’s dangerous been the second in line. If / when the time comes for a successor it may be someone not as well known.
  22. M

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

IF this is true then just like with the late 4680 cells then the massive risk is no huge increases in vehicle sales for many years.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I worded this poorly. I meant with spacex she is not known for her engineering work. She works on the sales side and managing customers. (Which she does very well)
  24. M

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

To say he has a “total lack of ego” is stretching it.
  25. M

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

She isn’t involved in the day to day engineering work carried out at spacex and her role is primarily in sales. So she knows what she’s talking about when she makes the pitch to customers but nobody is going to state that she is a key player when it comes to the engineering work itself.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The recent executive departures confirm my view that nobody senior can outshine Elon or even appear to in any way. I have previously mentioned that Tesla needs executives like Gwynne Shotwell to get the basic but mundane things done well in Tesla. After todays departures I have realised that...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Anyone know how long the equipment to make the S/X is being depreciated? This might give a clue as to when either Tesla stops making these models or does a major refresh.
  29. M

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Because if they are going to mass produce another vehicle in the next 2/3 years in the US by now they will have signed a contract with a supplier who will start the work to produce the battery’s well before tesla plans to produce the vehicle. The only exception to this if tesla itself rapidly...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Battery’s are available if planned for, but tesla doesn’t seem to have planned for sufficient numbers in the next 2/3 years.
  31. M

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Tesla was going to build a plant with CATL but it wouldn’t have received the battery subsidy so instead it’s bought “spare” equipment from CATL to make the batteries. The number produced will not be enough for a model 2. I have not heard any other news about tesla building or acquiring...

Make your robotaxi predictions for the 8/8 reveal

Since Musk has a habit of launching products before they are ready, we will be lucky if robotaxis are 4 years away never mind 4 months.

I have seen a story that Canoo paid $1.7 million for the CEO’s private jet bills which is twice its total revenue last year. When it lost $302 million. A prime example of why the ruling against the compensation package is so infuriating.

I have no idea who Dionne is. I know the majority of battery’s which haven’t been constantly supercharged will last a long time. However if my budget is buying used vehicles out of warranty would I take a risk buying an EV knowing a minority’s batteries will fail and it will cost me say half...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

An important topic which isn’t discussed enough. As the number of vehicles outside warranty increases I foresee horror stories about battery’s failing and the cost of replacement increasing. This will result in even more depreciation for out of warranty vehicles which in turn will impact new...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The biggest mistake made is after the Y not bringing new models to market as quickly as possible. You can’t take a big chunk of the 80 million vehicles sold every year with two models. A more “conventional” looking truck would have got similar reservations as the cybertruck and could have been...
  42. M

    So… Highland is out…

Yes but it could have been a more conventional truck (which would have made it to market quicker) and in parallel in Berlin or Shanghai a model 2 could have been developed.
  43. M

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I have been concerned about Tesla’s direction for a while, today doesn’t give me any joy. Failure to learn lessons ( or even acknowledging we have a problem) will make the recovery more difficult.
  44. M

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

With regards to advertising, I think some people aren’t aware of Tesla vehicles, can afford them and are not put of by the leaders behaviour ( or not aware of it) and this is where targeted advertising will help. My idea is Tesla find an area say an hours drive from a service centre. Where...

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

Until Tesla produces the smaller cheaper vehicle sales are going to stagnate. The other issue is that Tesla doesn’t seem to care about the second hand market. Combined with the great unknown about what percentage of batteries will fail at what years and mileage plus the potential costs of a...

Third battery has failed - need advice

Please let us know what you decide to do. This issue is the main risk when buying out of warranty vehicles and if Tesla treats customers who bought new vehicles like this imagine how they will treat owners of used vehicles. In my opinion they need to be more transparent about the whole...
