Supercharger - South San Francisco, CA (LIVE, 20 urban stalls)

Surprised to see a queue here this morning… looks like a rental car company got a large delivery of Teslas and brought them all over from the airport to charge to 100% (most only had 20-30% according to chalk pen markings on their windows). Surrounding SCs also seemed suspiciously busy for 10am...

FSD Beta for legacy Model S/X with MCU1 (2022.8.10.8)

Installed and I’ve taken a couple of test drives. First take is that it’s far less impressive than I expected from YouTube videos. Some outright dangerous decision-making, including multiple attempts to cut in front of firetrucks with lights/sirens on. Will recalibrate and clean cameras (heard...

Full Self-Driving (Beta) toggle is now in wide release as production vehicle software including MCU1

Yup, Tesla Service communication combined with MCU1 specific radio silence from Elon (given that Tesla doesn’t really do any other form of communication). The camera retrofits seem to have been handled very poorly compared to the FSD retrofits, at least the early ones (mine was surprisingly...

FSD Beta for legacy Model S/X with MCU1 (2022.8.10.8)

Upgrade now queued. I’m overseas for another week or so, but will download and likely install upon my return.

Full Self-Driving (Beta) toggle is now in wide release as production vehicle software including MCU1

I don’t know if I’ll apologize per se, but my major beef was the lack of communication from Tesla (and particularly Elon Musk on Twitter) combined with a not-unreasonable belief that early adopters who had supported Tesla financially during very challenging times were being disrespected and...

FSD Beta for legacy Model S/X with MCU1 (2022.8.10.8)

Not yet. Traveling but app not showing a pending software update download. I’m suspect this could have been an upgraded MCU (upgrade to 2022.8.10.8, then get MCU replaced, then upgrade to 2022.44.25.5). Not sure exactly how that would show up on TeslaFi.

MCU1 owners: what should we expect from our cars?

It’s generally much better with dashcam, although the repeaters are a little glitchy sometimes (compression errors and occasional dropouts). Haven’t really checked after the eMMC replacement though, and obviously plenty of software updates over time (two years since the last broken window)...

MCU1 owners: what should we expect from our cars?

If it were consistent quality, that would be useful, sure! I got useless footage all three times my vehicle was broken into because MCU1 couldn't handle everything going on at the same time (some cameras had gaps in the footage, some had glitches in the data which broke the video file, some...

FSD Beta for legacy Model S/X with MCU1 (2022.8.10.8)

Not yet. Although I'm eligible, I'm only in the queue to join the beta. No idea when that might happen.

MCU1 owners: what should we expect from our cars?

They go directly into the FSD computer. You can see the ports in this Autonomy Day presentation: (You can reboot the MCU whilst driving and Autopilot won't miss a beat.)

FSD Beta for legacy Model S/X with MCU1 (2022.8.10.8)

Received my first score this morning (weird that it took overnight for it to show in the app). No issues with eligibility as far as I can see.

FSD Beta for legacy Model S/X with MCU1 (2022.8.10.8)

I managed to get 2022.8.10.8 installed today on my December 2017 Model S 100D (still on original MCU1 [eMMC replaced during recall], but with upgraded FSD computer). No warnings or issues with cameras, and was able to press the request button successfully (ticking all three boxes). However, I...

    Supercharger - San Francisco, CA - Geary Blvd. (LIVE 20 May 2021, 16 V3 + 18 Urban stalls)

If you're an early morning charger at this location (~7-8am), be aware that Tesla is using this Supercharger to charge new Teslas on their day of delivery from the downtown Van Ness location. I was here last week, and there were six new Model 3/Y getting charged; yesterday it was four Model 3/Y...

    Supercharger - San Francisco, CA - 16th St (LIVE 7 Jul 2023, 12 stalls)

Yeah, a friendly reminder to everyone that your Tesla will not automatically lock the doors after you plug into charge and then get back into your vehicle. Might be a good habit to remember to manually lock from the inside. (As an aside, it's a shame there's no easy to access "emergency...

    Supercharger - San Francisco, CA - Geary Blvd. (LIVE 20 May 2021, 16 V3 + 18 Urban stalls)

Heads up there’s some minor construction at the moment blocking 2-3 Supercharger stalls. Looks like they’re working on the roof at Target.

    Is Unlimited Supercharging Speed Limited?

Ended up leapfrogging that update and got 2020.48.37 installed on Sunday. Tried Supercharging yesterday at a v3 station and was happy to get ~150kW peak when I started charging from ~20% SoC. I'm closer to 20,000kWh from DC fast charging now, and just over 60K miles. Glad to have this arbitrary...

    2017 Model X 100D Supercharger capped at 100kW

Why not both? I suspect the original driver was a risk of increased powertrain warranty claims, but another ~18 months of data suggests that won’t be an issue. Wasn’t someone trying a class action as well? I’d add in balancing potential future warranty liability against reducing the time older...

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

Indeed. And you raise some great points. I suspect NHTSA will have some involvement in pushing Tesla to fix things in a reasonable timeframe, though. Remember that Tesla's own modeling showed a peak in replacements in early 2022. The open question is whether they can realistically refurb 100K...

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

Here's my recent experience with my late 2017 Model S (around 60K miles, out of warranty), in case it's helpful for anyone else… I've been having problems with my MCUv1 for more than 12 months. Slowness getting dramatically worse, unexplained reboots (both when driving and parked), features...

    Is Unlimited Supercharging Speed Limited?

Thanks for the additional information; that aligns fairly closely with my experience. Looking forward to trying the new software (I think it's out to about 75% of the fleet now, according to Teslafi, but I'm lagging behind).

    Supercharger - San Francisco, CA - 16th St (LIVE 7 Jul 2023, 12 stalls)

Yup, just like Geary is shown at Divis instead of Masonic. Supercharge.info shows them both more accurately.

    Supercharger - San Francisco, CA - 16th St (LIVE 7 Jul 2023, 12 stalls)

It’s not that reliable. :) The two coming soon locations reflect the locations with permitting already underway – Target on Geary and this Safeway site. Neither are accurately shown on the map.

    Is Unlimited Supercharging Speed Limited?

Looking forward to trying the new update. I've been capped to 108kW on my 100D since August 2019 (unhappily starting in the middle of a cross-country road trip!). Tesla have been wholly unhelpful and simply stated that they "were unable to verify any faults or concerns with your vehicle's...

    2017 Model X 100D Supercharger capped at 100kW

Well, that took a while longer than I thought, thanks to a global pandemic. ;) Here's what Tesla Service Burlingame had to say on the matter: In other words, after 40K miles, Supercharging speed dropping from max 150kW to 108kW is "working as designed". Sigh. I'll probably try the Van Ness...

Supercharger - San Francisco, CA - Letterman Drive (LIVE 22 May 2019, 6 urban stalls)

Two more days of free access to this Supercharger… or will that be extended into 2021? Also worth noting that Sessions at the Presidio has their entire food menu at half price for “a limited time”. Some great bargains for takeout while charging!

Tesla Covering Some MCU1 Issues for Some Owners

Unless you're using PIN-to-Drive to address another one of Tesla's design failures (outdated insecure keyfobs). You'll need a tow.

My thoughts on the MCU1 failure debacle and the outcome for Tesla

Looks like Tesla went with a variation on option 3.
  28. 2

NHTSA asks about MCU memory screen failures

Good news, it would seem. Tesla have taken responsibility for this "malfunction" and are providing extended warranty support (8 years/100K miles from initial delivery) plus issuing refunds to people who have had to pay out of pocket for this repair.
  29. 2

Supercharger - San Francisco, CA - Letterman Drive (LIVE 22 May 2019, 6 urban stalls)

Looks like they’re limiting opening hours at the moment; main gate (roller mesh) was closed at 11pm tonight, when signage suggested it would be open until 1am. No security around to verify.
  30. 2

    Supercharger - Tahoe City, CA (LIVE Nov 15 2019, 6 V2 stalls)

This Supercharger is showing as “temporarily closed”, but has been working fine over the past few days. Not sure what’s up, but definitely don’t be afraid to use it if you’re in the area.
  31. 2

    Supercharger - San Francisco, CA - 16th St (LIVE 7 Jul 2023, 12 stalls)

With only 12 stalls, and being the only 'free' Supercharger in San Francisco (both the Presidio and Opera Plaza locations are paid parking), I think ICE vehicles will be the least of your problems! I'd expect this location to be very busy until additional SF locations come online.
  32. 2

Supercharger - Napa, CA - Factory Stores Drive (LIVE 16 Nov 2019, 20 V2 stalls)

There is a coffee shop and it is open for takeout at the moment. brewed. Coffee, Cookies, and Dough | Napa Valley Cookie Dough & Coffee

Supercharger - San Francisco, CA - Letterman Drive (LIVE 22 May 2019, 6 urban stalls)

Heads up the security guard at the entry gate is now taking a temperature check (driver only) when entering the facility. Be sure to stop and have a mask on when putting down your window. Still wildly variable as to whether the gate is up or down (and hence whether charges apply).
  34. 2

Supercharger - Napa, CA - Factory Stores Drive (LIVE 16 Nov 2019, 20 V2 stalls)

It’s not on their “coming soon” map, but I’d be guessing Electrify America.

Supercharger - Menlo Park, CA (LIVE 21 Nov 2019, 18 urban stalls)

A bit upthread someone suggested 8 more would match the equipment setup. Great news!

    2017 Model X 100D Supercharger capped at 100kW

I've asked Tesla to take a look at my Supercharging speed (currently down to 105kW) and battery condition next week during a service appointment, with a view to going to arbitration if my unlimited Supercharging has been limited without notification or consent. I'll let you know how I go.

Supercharger - San Francisco, CA (Van Ness Ave, LIVE Aug 2020, 12 urban stalls, valet access only)

Permitting in San Francisco is one of the gates of hell, so I can understand why it's taking a while to get things sorted! There is a pretty big Volta setup at their HQ, and Cruise are working to install a very large charging setup for their fleet. The Presidio is separate from the City, so it...

Supercharger - South San Francisco, CA (LIVE, 20 urban stalls)

Same is true for Lincoln, CA; over a month with no progress (and just awaiting cabinets). I’m assuming a hardware shortage, perhaps because other locations had priority (trans-Canada being a likely suspect).
  39. 2

Supercharger - Napa, CA - Factory Stores Drive (LIVE 16 Nov 2019, 20 V2 stalls)

So far this has been a great addition to the Superchargers in the North Bay. Not ICE’d (even over Christmas shopping), fast charging speeds, and not super busy (weekdays and weekends). Very handy place to stop on the way in/out of Napa, despite the construction on First. One weird thing - as a...

    Supercharger - Lincoln, CA (LIVE 14 Oct 2020, 8 V3 stalls)

Visited on Sunday, and no progress since the earlier photos.

Cost of Supercharging in the US, and where to find cost/kWh for a particular location?

My understanding is that all 'per kWh' Superchargers in the U.S. (including Urban, v2 and v3) are at the same rate, $0.28 per kWh. No reason to suspect that this one would be any different. See Supercharging
  42. 2

    Supercharger - Richmond - Meeker Avenue (LIVE 16 Sep 2019, 12 stalls)

There are new plans to build a hotel on the empty land next to this Supercharger, which would make it a great place to stay on a road trip to the Bay Area (at a reasonable rate compared to the city or even the South San Francisco hotels with a Supercharger under construction)...
  43. 2

    Supercharger - Oakland, CA - 2nd Street (LIVE 22 Nov 2020, 12 urban stalls)

Both the current Presidio and planned Opera Parking Supercharger locations in San Francisco charge (~$6/hr) for parking.
  44. 2

Supercharger - Napa, CA (EXPANDED Jun 2018, 12 V2 stalls)

Heads up this location appears to be within the PG&E “public safety outage” scheduled from Wednesday morning this week for up to five days.
  45. 2

Supercharger - San Mateo, CA - Park Place (LIVE, 8 V2 stalls)

There’s now three broken ports at this Supercharger, which aren’t flagged on the in-car map. Starting to get frustrated with the lack of repairs from Tesla at this location. (Oh, and Supercharger phone support is now only available Mon-Fri during office hours. Haven’t found another way to ask...

Supercharger - Big Sur, CA - Ventana (LIVE 24 May 2019, 8 Urban stalls)

Last night there was a power outage across Big Sur, so the full set of Superchargers were out of action at 3:30am… surprisingly Tesla didn’t mark them as offline on the in-car map, and they no longer provide Supercharger phone support 24/7. Something to be aware of with more remote...
  47. 2

Supercharger - Menlo Park, CA (LIVE 21 Nov 2019, 18 urban stalls)

Looks like it’s just City of Menlo Park or PG&E signoff. Sometimes that can take days, other times weeks. It’s possible, but less likely, that there is some upstream work to be done before energizing the equipment at the site.
  48. 2

    Supercharger - Tahoe City, CA (LIVE Nov 15 2019, 6 V2 stalls)

Yup, the bridge is apparently on track to open by the end of the summer season. Longer-term (estimated completion in 2021), there is a proposal to replace the Y intersection with a large roundabout, along with a replacement for Fanny Bridge across the river, which should also ease traffic flow...

    Supercharger - Lusk, WY

The Lusk Supercharger is showing as "Reduced Service" on the navigation screen at the moment; I spoke to Tesla and apparently two of the chargers aren't working properly and they've blocked it out. They recommended using ports 1A and 2B, which are still working at a good speed.
