    Rust protection & corrosion guarantee

I'm in the Northeast US. Thinking about rust-proofing my Model 3. What did you use for rust-proofing? Did you do it yourself, or did you take it somewhere like Krown?

Emergency Lane Departure - False Positives

I'm happy to report that I think Tesla has deployed significant improvements to ELDA. I used to experience a false positive every 10-15mins of driving, but since about a week ago, I haven't gotten any. I'm now on software version 20.4.2, but I think it got better in the prior version (the one...

16.2 Near Collision w/ Auto Lane Change

I like AP, but it always feels like it isn't taking things into account that are not pretty close to the car; ie, it doesn't feel like it can see moderately down the road. From what I understand of HW2.5, they both crop and down-sample the video, so this makes sense. Which will naturally result...

    Tesla Software 2019.16.3

It's starting to become 2nd nature for me to turn it off, but it's still annoying to do every single drive: tap car icon, tap autopilot, scroll down, tap ELDA toggle, click disable on confirm popup, close menu. It's annoying, especially if you're running a bunch of errands back to back since you...

    Tesla Software 2019.16.3

Turns out gliding over the shoulder line a tad is a pretty normal way of driving on New England country roads. ELDA reeks of being tested mostly on highways, or clear straight roads. It seems clear that there's magnitudes more discontent over this feature than is typical for updates. This is...

    Tesla Software 2019.16.3

My issue with ELDA is nothing theoretical; it's just that the false-positive rate is wayyy too high. Honestly, it's so bad I can't recommend the car to people anymore :( . Most people aren't going to tolerate turning the feature off every single drive, and at least on the roads I drive, leaving...

    Tesla Software 2019.16.3

There's a long thread on it: Emergency Lane Departure - False Positives It may depend on what types of roads you drive. I imagine it's good/useful on highways. But on country roads with lots of curves it's horrible - false positive every 20mins of driving in my experience (and this is across 3...

    Tesla Software 2019.16.3

Ughhh, so no change to ELDA. Being unable to permanently turn that off is unacceptable. I'm on 16.2 and I *hate* ELDA. It's dangerous and makes the car not fun anymore; it's hard to remember to turn it off before every single drive.

    Lane departure avoidance issues

Yeah. Emergency Lane Departure Avoidance is bad. Here's a thread on it: Emergency Lane Departure - False Positives Love my car, but they need to update this. It's scary when I forget to turn off ELDA at the beginning of a drive.

Emergency Lane Departure - False Positives

Haven't read this whole thread, but I *hate* Emergency Lane Departure Avoidance. I get a false positive probably every 20 minutes worth of driving on my local roads (winding New England country roads). I try to turn it off every drive, but sometimes I forget and the car will likely find some...

    Tesla Software 2019.16.2

Yes, indeed I meant Emergency Lane Departure *Avoidance* (I mistakenly wrote "assistance" in my original most). And it's unacceptable. I can say this with confidence after several more days of driving with 16.2 now. The issue is not "driving too close to other cars". I drive mostly on country...

Is the P3D and LR AWD 3 the same physical car ? Are only the front brakes different ?

Really? I thought they never used rollout numbers for any Model 3 numbers? Is that not the case?

Is the P3D and LR AWD 3 the same physical car ? Are only the front brakes different ?

P to AWD is now a 1.2s difference, but was 1.0s when I bought my car, and AWD to Standard+ is 0.7s. Not that I have a right to complain (the car keeps getting better, which is awesome), but it definitely seems like there's ample room to give AWDs a little more love.

Is the P3D and LR AWD 3 the same physical car ? Are only the front brakes different ?

I would probably pay the $10k or whatever for an OTA update that made my car a P-. Not that the AWD isn't plenty fast (every passenger is blown away by the ride)....it's just that I've gone from not really caring about acceleration before I owned a Tesla to totally addicted now and I want moar.

    Tesla Software 2019.16.2

Emergency lane departure assistance is too aggressive. I've had the update for 1.5 days, 3 people have driven the car, and all of us have complained that it took the wheel in situations that weren't warranted. Not loving the update so far.

    Using the Frunk

Best part about the frunk: it's completely isolated from the cabin. So if you have something stinky you need to put in the car briefly (this occasionally happens if you have little kids for example), frunk is much better than trunk. And it's closeable with one hand. Just have to be...

    Autopilot - positioning in lane

I get it. You took my quote out of context. I think general computer vision is hard, and accounting for the issues you need to account for reduces to having to solve that if you lane-position. My point is that lane-centering indicates they are not that close to solving this (admittedly hard)...

    Autopilot - positioning in lane

Adjusting for that stuff doesn't seem hard... As noted above, I think the issue is probably that they're not confident in the car's ability to see/understand what's 100ft+ down the road. ie, if there's a pedestrian or cyclist in the shoulder, you want bias in the other direction, and you want to...

    Autopilot - positioning in lane

My layman's alg would be: If traffic only to the left, stay slightly right. If traffic only to the right, stay slightly left. Else, center. Adjust for pedestrians/obstacles/jersey-barriers and semis. ... My guess is that last bit is really hard and/or the car simply can't sense far enough away...

    Autopilot - positioning in lane

That would be good. I haven't experimented much on the highway yet. But it's definitely not the best on double-yellow-line roads. If there's opposing traffic, I take it out of EAP every time - too scary. I get the concern re pedestrians and things in the shoulder.... But you would only program...

    Autopilot - positioning in lane

Yeah, I only use autopilot for stretches without anything like that. In any event, I disagree with keeping the car dead-center. Sure, I'd probably get used to it. But isn't it safer to position a foot or two farther away from traffic if you can? Especially around turns, opposing cars can ride...

    Autopilot - positioning in lane

Had my Model 3 AWD for about a week (and loving it). I haven't had a chance to do much highway driving, so I've been experimenting (with my hands on the wheel) with autopilot on local double-yellow-line roads. I find the car positions itself dead center, which is rather sub-optimal on these...

    Connecticut (Mt. Kisco) AWD delivery

I took delivery in Mt. Kisco today: AWD, black. Went fine: 1) Scheduled for 11am. Waited for an hour before they were ready for me to do anything (sign paperwork). 2) After paperwork, another hour before the car was ready. 3) Drove half a mile to the lot where you actually get the car. Not...

Taking delivery this week - things to look out for?

I'm taking delivery in a few days. What should I look out for when inspecting the vehicle? I know the obvious stuff - panel gaps, glass issues... But what else? Anyone find things after taking delivery that they wish they'd found at the delivery center? Thanks!

CNBC reporting a criminal probe over Musk's "going private" statements

Thanks for the info...especially regarding reminding them about the CHEAPR program. I might not have otherwise realized that needs to happen when I pick up the car...
