Illinois Green Energy Bill - $4,000 Rebate - Good/Bad News

Yet those of us who already own EVs are stuck paying a fine every year, and there's still practically no fast chargers in western Illinois.

    Supercharger - Speedway, IN

For people thinking of attending the Indy 500 in the future. Getting into the Speedway SC before the race when coming in from the interstate was really easy and with 250kW adding enough to get back out again was fast. Be sure you charge before the race. After the race, traffic control is...

    Supercharger - Speedway, IN

Was able to use it just fine. No congestion problems.

    Supercharger - Collinsville, IL

I really doubt income from Supercharging is funding roll out of the Supercharger network, its really more of a situation where Supercharger build out generate sales of Tesla's cars in areas which then fund more roll out of Superchargers. What a CCS adapter enables is more places to invest in...

Supercharger - Peoria, IL - N Sheridan Rd

Had a chance to use the Supercharger over the weekend when I was in Peoria. Showed up in the phone app, but the car's navigation wouldn't allow me to set it as a destination yet to get pre-conditioning. Otherwise totally trouble free.

Supercharger - Peoria, IL - N Sheridan Rd

Seeing construction pin on supercharge.info at what looks like the right spot!

Supercharger - Peoria, IL - N Sheridan Rd

Its not where I would have picked for a Supercharger in Peoria, but that's really not bad. Just off War Memorial near the I-74 exit and relatively easy to get in and out of from the Interstate.

    Supercharger - Mt. Pleasant, IA

Supercharge.info had put a pin on their map early last year, but this is the first that Tesla have acknowledged it.

    Supercharger - Waterloo, IA

Didn't get a chance to stop in Waterloo since I was catching a ride. Disappointing that it sounds like its been pushed off to next year. Infrastructure in this area is still really bad and Tesla really needs to do something about it. Even if its just discounts for the CHAdeMO adapter.

    Supercharger - Waterloo, IA

I'm going to be passing through Waterloo this weekend and I'll try to check out the Hy-Vee to see if there's any sign of Supercharger construction. Disappointingly, I'm going to be catching a ride in an ICE car for this trip. Without a SC in Waterloo there's just no way to make the trip without...

Supercharger - Buffalo Grove, IL (Woodman's)

Yet another Chicago area Supercharger, but still no word on Superchargers for I-88 or I-74 in western Illinois. Illinois needs more fast chargers outside of Chicago.

    Supercharger - Waterloo, IA

Thanks for the pictures, I hadn't actually seen one of their stations yet. Is it two combo CHAdeMO/CCS or just one combo and one CCS? Third-party L3 chargers are really starting to be a thing for driving around in Iowa. Makes me want to order the CHAdeMO adapter, and wish that Tesla would hurry...

    Supercharger - Waterloo, IA

Are you sure they're going to be L2 chargers? Waterloo was also supposed to get another L3 charger as part of the network MidAmerican was building out across Iowa. They've typically been installing two which would match what we're seeing in the ground. EV fast-charging network across Iowa DC...

Supercharger - Peoria, IL - N Sheridan Rd

Didn't notice any obvious signs of new chargers, or any work to upgrade existing chargers while I was in Peoria yesterday. Spoke to a manager at the Grand Prarie Hy-Vee by phone the other day, and they didn't know anything about getting Superchargers or any other L3 charging upgrades. Lockdown...

Supercharger - Peoria, IL - N Sheridan Rd

Has anyone heard anything or come across any information about the location of the upcoming Peoria IL Supercharger? I'm going to be heading that way down I-74 for the first time in a while this week, so I could drop in and take some pictures if we know where its going to be. I've looked, but it...

    Supercharger - Mt. Pleasant, IA

That would make travel on US 34 a lot more practical as well as north/south travel on US 218. All they'd need would be to put in the Supercharger at Peoria, IL and a new one at Osceola, IA. Is there no similar database available for Illinois? I haven't been able to find any information about the...

    Illinois Superchargers (location speculation, discussion)

I've been trying to track down the precise status of the future Supercharger location in Peoria for a while now, but so far no luck.

    Supercharger - Waterloo, IA

Locations known now for Hannibal and Waterloo, just need to find out where the SC is going to be in Peoria.
  20. midwestLemur

    Supercharger - Dows, IA

I think Dows was chosen simply because it was halfway between the West Des Moines SC and the Albert Lea SC with no real regard to anything else because yeah, its a half-hour detour if you want to use it if you're travelling East/West on 20. One possibility for a SC location between Waterloo and...
  21. midwestLemur

    Supercharger - Dubuque IA

That's awesome. That's exactly where I'd been hoping it would be in Waterloo. Though there's also one of the MidAmerican chargers that's supposed to go in potentially at that location as well.

    Supercharger - Hannibal, MO

Just noticed on supercharge.info that Hannibal is listed now as being at the permit stage.

    Midwest Supercharger Christmas Wishlist

A bunch of my Christmas wishes for Coming Soon pins just got answered: * Hannibal MO covering the Mississippi river / current end of I-72 * Peoria IL serving traffic on I-74 west of the Illinois River * Waterloo IA serving all the traffic on the I-380 diagonal * I-88 between the Quad Cities and...

    Midwest Supercharger Christmas Wishlist

Since we're coming up on the Holidays I just thought I'd check up on how my holiday wishes from last year went, and think if I have any new ones for this year. Only one of my wishes came true with Altoona IA opening. Its not the best location for a long stop, but its way more convenient for...

    Illinois EV Plates

We're still less than 1% of the vehicles on the roads in Illinois, and the need to get people into EVs is still acute. The whole point of this law was to discourage adoption of EVs especially with the initial scare headlines of "$1000 annual fee" followed up by the second page correction to...

    Illinois EV Plates

This is a problem even without electric cars because gas cars keep getting more efficient as well. If there was a gas car that was as efficient as a Model 3 you'd have to drive over 30k miles a year to pay the same amount in gas tax. If a single higher plate fee is the best way to pay for roads...

    Electrify America Kansas Locations

Its really unfortunate that Electrify America is building these along the same routes Tesla is already serving. If they served different routes, and filled in the dead zones in the already existing networks it would be way easier to convince Tesla that there are compelling CCS charging networks...

    Supercharger - Hannibal, MO

Maybe we just need to start planning regional meetups in places that don't have super chargers. Hannibal is a bit of a tourist destination, so its not a terrible choice for one anyway and Springfield and STL aren't so far away that we'd need to worry about getting stranded.

Illinois Tollway doesn’t recognize EL plate

The EV Penalty will bring in maybe 4-5 million dollars tops, money that is in no way earmarked for EV infrastructure. They would have raised more money with a $2 increase in fees on gas cars. Make no mistake, this was all about penalizing ownership of EVs under the guise of 'fairness' and the...

Can anyone in SE Iowa lend/rent me a mobile connector for 2 days

Yeah I was going to bring that one up but decided against it because it seemed unlikely that you'd forget the mobile adapter and have that one. How terrible to have to spend time at a Casino / Arcade / Bowling Alley / Waterpark :D

Can anyone in SE Iowa lend/rent me a mobile connector for 2 days

Assuming you mean Kahoka MO, abetterrouteplanner says you should be able to make it, though you might want to take some slower back roads if you're in the SR+. Forgetting your mobile adapter is pretty serious business in this area though, I've done the same thing and now keep a spare one in my...

    Quad Cities Iowa/Illinois

Had a pretty good time up in Galena over the weekend, and turn out was good with a number of other members of the Iowa Tesla owners club turning up. At least 7 Model 3s including 2 performance versions, a Model S, a Leaf, a Volt, 2 Bolts, a Kona PHEV, and a Toyota hybrid SUV. First time I'd...

    Quad Cities Iowa/Illinois

Saturday is the Drive Electric Week event in Galena. If anyone else from the Quad Cities is planning to attend and would like to meet up and drive up as a group, I'm planning to be at the SC / Hy-Vee in Davenport early that morning and plan to leave from there around 6:15. That should give...

    Supercharger - Hannibal, MO

Agree completely. Its one of the big missing locations in the region that need a Super Charger. Right up there with Waterloo Iowa and Peoria Illinois. I went through the Hannibal/Quincy area myself a while back and arrived at the St Charles SC with more charge than abetterrouteplanner had...

    Quad Cities Iowa/Illinois

Not sure I'll be able to make it to either one of those. There's more of us around than I'd known though, ran into my car's slightly older twin the other day, it seems we're just divided up between multiple online services. So hopefully word gets out. My trip up to NW Iowa was successful. The...

    Quad Cities Iowa/Illinois

I can't make it this time, but I went to it a while back. It has a nice location right near the Dead Poet's coffee shop. Going to be testing the limits of my mid-range car in northwest Iowa, and might get a chance to check out the future Sioux City SC location.

    Quad Cities Iowa/Illinois

I'll be there. Before that I've got a question: Is the Tesla Ranger the best way to go for a tire rotation, and if so how much do they charge? Or is there some place locally that has experience with Tesla that would be more reasonably priced?

    EV plates (Illinois)

This penalty got passed because it was tied up with a bunch of other fees. Hopefully it won't take too long for someone to introduce legislation specifically intended to incentivize people to drive electric cars. The fee doesn't have to go back to $35 for two years, but $250 a year is still...

Illinois Infrastructure Plan Would Raise EV Registration Fees to $1,000/yr

It just seems that at the current time penalizing ownership of EVs by going from $35 to $500 for two years creates the perverse outcome of people avoiding EVs. We're still very much in the phase where we need to be giving people an incentive to switch, and starting up higher fees on high...

Illinois Infrastructure Plan Would Raise EV Registration Fees to $1,000/yr

There just aren't enough EVs on the road in Illinois for this to be a real problem yet. You'd get far more money to fix roads from requiring a higher registration fee for low mpg vehicles like trucks and SUVs.

Illinois Infrastructure Plan Would Raise EV Registration Fees to $1,000/yr

Anybody want to have a meetup in Springfield to protest?
  47. midwestLemur

Illinois Infrastructure Plan Would Raise EV Registration Fees to $1,000/yr

This may have been true in the past, but with affordable used EVs now fairly common and the Model 3 as the first full EV actually capable of 100% replacing a gas vehicle within reach of the masses, I really doubt its true now. There's a lot of people out there in Illinois driving EVs who aren't...

Illinois Infrastructure Plan Would Raise EV Registration Fees to $1,000/yr

This is still penalizing ownership of EVs which is crazy when we're still less than 1% of vehicles on the road in Illinois, and the revenue they say it will pull in is laughably small. They really can't find fossil fuel subsidies they can cut that would produce more savings than this would bring in?

Illinois Infrastructure Plan Would Raise EV Registration Fees to $1,000/yr

Find and contact your Illinois state senator, house representative or Chicago alderman | Illinois Policy Here's another handy website for finding representative information. This really is crazy, its 10 times more than my old gas car ever would have paid in gas taxes at the new rate, and five...

What happened to all the charging adapters?

It seems like they get them in batches that don't quite keep up with demand. Its probably good for the bottom line, but annoying if you realize you need something when they're between deliveries. Just got a new mobile charger a few weeks ago after they'd been out of stock.
