Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I understand the sentiment, but there are regions where CCS chargers are extremely reliable, such as the Circuit Electrique network up here in Quebec (FLO in the rest of Canada). You still have to contend with the small number of chargers per site (wrt to SC), but they have many more locations...

Montrealer here. We keep our brushes in the main cabin, usually on the floor in the rear passenger footwell. It is easy to brush off snow above a door by hand before opening it, with minimal ingress into the cabin. Once done the brush (the flat model we use) does not affect rear passenger...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

This Zeekr 001, despite the flagrant plagiarism of the Tesla UI, seems like quite a reasonable deal for the price. 100 kWh battery and what seems like decent build quality / materials for 60K Euro. Vehicles with similar battery capacity from Tesla or MB are +/- 40K Euro more expensive (as a...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I may well have missed it but this is the first time I read that a non-S/X Tesla does not use steel panels. The latter are often the corrosion weak link in winter climes with use of road salt and abrasives. Good news if accurate, but I wonder if the process can be grafted to North American...

Youtube resolution now locked at 360p after update?

Yes, settings are also locked in my 2022 S with AMD. Given that I did not update my car firmware recently I also suspect it is a YouTube-side change. Hopefully temporary.

My 1 month old model 3 loses 4-5% battery parking overnight

Do you have Sentry mode active overnight ? It prevents the car from going into deep sleep, and will give constant drain similar to what you are experiencing.

Weird buzzing sound after updating to 2022.24.6 [Fixed in 2022.36.1]

Gifting TSLA shares to family members / minor children - Canadian Edition

My query was not to find ways to game the system, but rather a tax-efficient way of setting up investments for young family members (as close to a win-win as possible). There seem to be some financial mechanisms to do this (within limits) in the USA, I was curious as to whether anyone knew of...

Gifting TSLA shares to family members / minor children - Canadian Edition

Hello everyone, I came across an interesting thread in the investing forums about available options to gift TSLA shares to family members while minimizing their tax burden (with focus on minor children who can potentially benefit from a very long investment horizon). That thread was...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Question for my enlightenment: In the event that a large number of additional shares are approved (let's say Dodger's trillion), is the dilutive impact on existing shares accounted or adjusted for ? Is there any adjustment to their intrinsic "weight", or do they just become of much smaller...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I noticed the same in Quebec. Several of my team at work are actively looking to buy an EV (after 8 years of spreading the EV faith I feel some sense of accomplishment). The only one who was able to get a car quickly (within a few weeks for vehicle prep and charging station install) bought a...

Optimus = Beltalowda ? The Expanse storyline would have played out rather differently, but it is certainly a possible future variant of accessing the near-unlimited resources of the Belt. The economic potential there, once the technical hurdles are sorted out, is truly mind-boggling. Optimus...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I agree, but this being TSLA, logic rarely applies for very long (except over multi-year timeframes). Q4 delivery beat effect lasting 12 seconds (I jest?) is the latest example. Still HODLing my shares since 2012, irrespective of short-term noise.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I'd be curious to see what in my post you considered fearmongering. I simply stated that in my (8+ year) ownership experience of Tesla vehicles cold weather issues occurred with novel features designed in warmer climes (windshield ventilation, or as you stated, the door handles). I also noted...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The older Teslas you refer to have resistive heaters (as does mine), and indeed work well in cold climes (it is -30C now in Montreal). While I do not doubt Tesla will eventually fix whatever the issue is with their new heat pump, the reputational damage among existing or potential owners may...

Thoughts on buying an older Model S P85

    Early 2013 P85+ to 2022 Plaid

KOL2000, I am going through roughly the same process, I have a March 2013 P85 (with literally no options aside from the trunk seats - "parking sensors, folding mirrors", what are those ?). The P+ was indeed a beast for its time, the suspension was clearly improved compared to the original P...

    Model S Plaid - 6 Months Later

Much obliged for your insight. Mine is also a v1.0 car (the first batch of non-sig S delivered to Canada) with zero bells and whistles, and I confess an illogical attachment to it. Hi Omar, After more than 8 years of enjoyment I am thinking of upgrading my 2013 P85 (VIN 55xx) to a current S (likely LR, wife will be difficult to bend to the Plaid imperative). Curious to hear your thoughts as to what has changed the most in your experience of the car (for better and...

    Model Y or Used X?

I am in the rather niche group of owners with 4 kids, an OG 2013 P85 S with the rear-facing trunk seats and a 2017 X 6-seater (which replaced a Sienna). While I cannot comment on the Y 3rd row seats, and while it is possible that Tesla will pull something amazing out of the existing vehicle...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

One thing I noticed is that the "technique" to input voice commands changed over time. In my MCU1 cars with firmware 9+ I had to press the "talk" button, speak, and press the button again to advise that I was done. Used to work well. With the "spoken sentences" firmware 10 update doing this...

Brake Pads/Rotors seized at 45k miles. Warranty?

Exactly the same issue with our 2017 X. I live in Montreal, so we get long winters with profuse use of salt de-icing on all roads. The ranger told me brake maintenance in similar conditions should be yearly (I seem to remember reading q2 years when I got the X, but may be wrong). He could...

2019 Firmware Updates for AP 2.0?

I tried both features on our MCU1 X with an iPhone running iOS13. All voice commands worked, with rapid transcription and execution (I was pleasantly surprised). Texting via iMessage also worked very well, including voice dictation to reply to incoming texts. So far so good.

I was just about to write about this then saw your post. V10 on MCU1

Why do you assume they just “threw something together quickly”? It’s just as possible that they have been working on this drivetrain and used this as a severe track test. As well, this is a prototype. Prototypes break. Finding how and when they break is the whole point of making prototypes. If...

Don't buy FSD for $2k more. [from 2019 - FSD upgrade not available for 2k at this time]

You cut out the rest of my post, including the very next sentence where I said that AP2.0 cameras MAY be able to do the trick with a more powerful CPU, my point is that to this day Tesla has never confirmed that to be the case. I don't definitively know if the CPU is the only limiting factor...

Don't buy FSD for $2k more. [from 2019 - FSD upgrade not available for 2k at this time]

You note these feature upgrades as if they are a given. Have you seen, in writing from company management, confirmation that AP2.0 vehicles getting the HW3 AP upgrade will get access to dashcam & sentry features ? Both of these rely on cameras that have been upgraded on v2.5 vehicles, and...

So what exactly do you get when you buy the FSD upgrade? (for AP2.0, EAP owners)

Also on the fence about this upgrade on an AP 2.0 Model X (which also happens to still be on v8 software, I am conflicted about the absolute need to upgrade to v9 for AP3, but that's a separate issue). Quite curious about whether we would get the dashcam & sentry modes with an AP3 upgrade, but...

All I can do is just laugh

That will happen with pretty much any sedan-type trunk if there is enough snow piled up. It is a good habit to swipe a gloved hand along the hinge edge to mitigate this. Agree with the other posters about keeping the brush in the cabin behind the driver's seat. FWIW, I live in Montreal, and...
