Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Anyone excited about not having to think about buying a Tesla…was never going to buy a Tesla. You’re looking at other manufacturers’ enthusiast groups - of course they’re anti-Tesla. But they are still enthusiastic to pay Tesla for electricity.

I’d roll it. I think we still need downside protection for deliveries but maybe not this week.

Bought puts 150-160 for next week and sold some calls 165-175. The fear and capitulation right now does make me fear a bounce so I'm trying not to sell too many calls but I just don't see any rally coming for the next two weeks with the delivery numbers being feared so low.

When puts get DITM, I like to split them 1:2 because it brings the strike down a lot. It of course doubles your downside risk. You could open 2x 9/20 -p200 for each call you close. You could also roll at the same time and open 2x 1/26 -p175 for each call. The easiest thing to do without using...

I'm hoping for a DCB this afternoon. Seems like buying puts is too obvious today and I wouldn't be surprised to see a bounce to clear them out by Friday.

Wiki Selling TSLA Options - Be the House

If you look at the option chain: 100 strike calls (any exp) are down more than 180 strike calls on an absolute basis, even though the 180 strike is down more on a percentage basis. Because the 100 strike is a higher dollar amount - even a lower percentage of that is a higher absolute amount...

You can consolidate to fewer contracts, but then if we rebound you won’t have as much upside. I would do some combination of adding cash and consolidating. It doesn’t have to be an all or none thing, you could just slowly roll contracts one at a time as you make money scalping weeklies. If...

The calls. It is pretty expensive with a lot of contracts, but for example you could add ~$6000 to get a 1/25 180c to a 6/26 100c, which gets you $80 in strike improvement and another 18 months. Plus you can still sell calls when SP is sub-180.

Wiki Selling TSLA Options - Be the House

I would consider rolling down some of those 2025s to lower strikes by adding cash. It makes them safer and gives you more positions to sell calls against when the SP is down here. I think of it like this: the new lower-strike position has lost even more than the current position you're trading...

I think this is very possible and I’m hoping for it, but that’s still 2-5 weeks away. Don’t know what would make us go up before that.

Closed puts and short calls. Expecting 175-180 close this week but more pain next week.

Wiki Selling TSLA Options - Be the House

I’m wondering if the inertia of all the contracts that have accumulated are keeping the SP near max pain for this week (via delta hedging or MM rebalancing or whatever). So what happens next week if we still have no buyers? I fear it could go…lower than this. But I have no idea and would love...

Volume’s been low and stock is weak AF on a big NASDAQ up day. I think the fear of weak delivery numbers will be an overhang the next few weeks and then ER after that if numbers are as weak as expected. Nobody has FOMO on this stock right now. I’m wondering if maybe the quarterly expiration on...

Wiki Selling TSLA Options - Be the House

Depending on how much flexibility you have, you could let a few exercise for cash. Then buy LEAPS and use those contracts to double the number of short calls you have to raise the strike up to maybe ~590. You could also focus on fewer contracts at a time and get the strike higher on those...

They are spreads, but safer than straight spreads because the long leg buys you more time. The risk is that on a big rally, the short leg price increases way faster than the long leg.

Bought 175/170/165p for next week and only have a handful of -c185 and 187.50. Would rather lose the premium on the puts than have a bunch of NTM calls get run over on a rally down here.

I’m now out of all short calls except some 192.50s I expect to expire. It’s nice to clear out the calls but on the other hand the shares and LEAPS backing them obviously lost much more. This is the tough part for me - where the SP is too low to sell calls but I’m too exposed to downside not...

If they’re big buyers, the SP will be going up whenever they buy - so if they bought in the afternoon we’d be seeing a different pattern with the price rise in the afternoon. Look at the volume drop off right around 8:30 ET today, which is the start of the slow drift down. Looks to me like...

I’m now holding -c190/195/197.5/202.5 after doubling some contracts to roll up. But I think there’s more risk to the upside in the short term now that we’ve overtaken and are holding 200, on higher volume than last week. I wonder if the big boys are starting to load up for the ER while we’re...

2016 Model S P100D L to Model X Plaid: Your experience with new Model X?

The 3 modes on the old X were creep, roll, and hold. The new X only has hold. Creep is like an automatic car that moves slowly forward if your foot is off the brake. Roll is like a manual car that will roll back or forward on a hill with gravity if your foot is off the brake. Hold means the car...

2017 to 2024: Did they fix...

I was always annoyed by my 2016 X's FWD - they were finicky and hesitant and usually would not fully open. I was happy to see that my 2024 FWD open much more quickly and fully so far.

Bought a few puts for tomorrow (197.50 and 195) and will prob buy more for next week tomorrow. The chart looks like a big rally today but only because of the limited range - it's only up 2.5%. I have a hard time seeing a gap up tomorrow with this anemic volume lately but who knows. Still holding my -c180/182.5/185s.

Just upgraded from a 2016 X 75D to a 2024 X LR. Big difference in terms of quality - everything just feels more solid and substantial, and of course the tech has improved a lot. This is what has been holding me back from really trading NVDA. I see NVDA longs talking on social media and it reminds me so much of how TSLA longs used to be: confident and fearless. But I just don't have the mental energy to follow NVDA as closely as I've followed TSLA for the last 12...

2017 MX Supercharging in Late 2023

I just sold my 2016 75D, I think my max range on that was not much more than 200-210 miles. On that car I'd guess it's about 45-60 minutes to go from almost empty to 80-90%, depending on the Supercharger.

I’d be very careful. Remember TSLA in 2021 and gamma squeezes. Just because it might not end up over 1300 doesn’t mean it can’t scare you out of the position at a loss sometime over the next year.

Premiums seemed terrible to me, probably because of the low volatility. But the share price is lower than TSLA and NVDA so maybe selling 2-4x as many contracts would help.

As you get deeper ITM, time value becomes less and less of a factor. So an option 2 years out that’s DITM may be almost priced the same as the same strike just 6 months out. This is why it makes sense to buy DITM LEAPS, because you aren’t paying a whole lot of time value. E.g., a 1/25 50c is...

    Deliveries after 1/1/2024

Ordered 12/20, stealth gray tax edition. Picked up a 2024 VIN today. I went over it pretty closely and didn’t find any flaws. Coming from a 2016 X. I miss my vertical screen, but otherwise seems like a big upgrade.

I did make a thread for non-TSLA options once, but I don’t think anyone really wants to flip back and forth between two separate threads.
