Please don't count on Uber or any form of riding sharing here. Both of our political parties are in the pockets of the taxi cab industry here, and the unions, who keep donating to them -- bribing is probably more accurate --to keep ride sharing out of BC. It's embarrassing when people come to town, especially in the tech industry, which Vancouver is suppose to cater to, but they can't even use a ride sharing app. The taxi cab drivers also often refuse rides to the suburbs, since they can't make more money staying downtown:

Many people from the suburbs won't even go downtown when drinking because you're at the mercy of taxi drivers, and if you can even find one when the bars closed, we know what we see on the news can happen to us. So the restaurants and bars suffer -- but our politicians get their pockets lined and that's all that matters to them. We even lose conventions over it but that doesn't matter to our politicians, nor do potentially more drinking and driving deaths because they make it so difficult to get a ride home. As long as they get political donations.
