Clarity around CAC imbalances, voltage imbalances, bad bricks, and battery warranty - 2015 90D

Probably lots of factors at play in why SMT and other apps' nominal capacity don't match the straight V * A * bricks * modules math, the main ones being: - Voltage drop is not linear from 100%-->0%, therefore estimates of 50% voltage are just that, estimates. Though estimating from 51% should...

Clarity around CAC imbalances, voltage imbalances, bad bricks, and battery warranty - 2015 90D

I’ve been fed this info many times, and heard lots of conflicting info on whether the buffer is accessible or not. My drive well below 0% was after recalibrating my BMS many times (more than a dozen) as recommended by Tesla and others on here as one of the bricks in my battery was dying. High...

Clarity around CAC imbalances, voltage imbalances, bad bricks, and battery warranty - 2015 90D

I’m fairly confident in the SMT buffer of 4kWh based on how far down below 0% I’ve driven my 90D on the old dying battery. I’ve gone 11 miles past 0 at ~310wH/mi = 3.4kWh. And I wasn’t dead yet, just too scared to keep going. Not sure how temp plays into the calculations.

2021 Model X, Monroney Sticker Range Increase

Old thread I know, but I can’t find many other threads that discuss the G vs H battery revisions (2020 LR+ vs late 2020 and 2021 LR++ should we call them?). I’m interested in picking up a MX of this vintage. Was anyone ever able to assess capacities of these batteries through charging, Scan My...

    90D replacement battery under warranty?

Interestingly, on SMT the last 6 bricks (1 module) on the refurb HV battery seemed to initially have a slight but distinct lack of capacity compared to the others after the replacement. They would be the first to reach a higher voltage at higher SoC and vice versa at lower SoC. I’m suspicious...

    90D replacement battery under warranty?

Sorry, life and a growing family got the better of me for so many months here. Tesla gave me a refurbished 90kWh battery. Took about a month to get it all done. Car is better than when I bought it now, but not as good as the brand new 87.5kWh batteries some have received when refurbs are on...

What Constitutes Battery Replacement Under Warranty for Older Batteries?

Can’t be calculated from other values in SMT. Sounds like only the iOS version gives them out. Not sure if other ways to get that data, but it’s a value calculated and reported by the BMS directly it seems.

Battery defect for IT brainstorming BMS_u029 - P85 MS 2013

I essentially figured that, but I’m more curious as to why in this situation, as it would involve taking a full brick out of series, not an individual cell out of parallel. Individual cell removal has clearly not been an appropriate solution.

Battery defect for IT brainstorming BMS_u029 - P85 MS 2013

Is this (a u018 error) at all a case where the the “snip out” method of “fixing” the battery would work? It seems like creating a 95/96 brick, 396V battery by taking the one degraded brick out of circuit would maintain brick balance and “restore” range since the BMS limits capacity/range based...

    90D replacement battery under warranty?

Old battery had no label unfortunately. Fell off or was removed. Could see the residue where it was. I think some of the gurus on here have mentioned it’s not uncommon for the label to fall off.

    90D replacement battery under warranty?

Alright, after some additional digging, I found a reman 90kWh battery in the parts catalog. It is technically not for my 8/2015 build Model S. Practically, it's probably just fine. Googling that reman part number nets essentially no results. I'll keep TMC updated on what I end up receiving as a...

Battery defect for IT brainstorming BMS_u029 - P85 MS 2013

Makes sense. I didn't realize that the u029 error reduced charging capability that much in all cases. Again, seems like with a chance of thermal runaway/fire, no matter how small that chance, that some level of urgency might be relayed by the warning. I've seen "pull over safely and tow...

    90D replacement battery under warranty?

I don't dispute that at all. But I haven't found one in the parts catalog, nor have I heard an anecdote on here of someone receiving one.

Battery defect for IT brainstorming BMS_u029 - P85 MS 2013

I find it interesting that the u029 error reads: "Maximum battery charge level reduced. OK to drive - Schedule service." The "OK to drive" part is starting to seem highly questionable to me. I can see that message being appropriate for the u18 imbalance error, where a brick is just losing...
