I had this behavior also but I noticed I didn't have my seat belt on, as I was just testing in our parking lot. Once I put my seat belt on it started working!

I don't know if it is "necessary" or not. I just wanted mine to say LTE instead of 3G. It made my 2015 car look old. 3G is so 1990s ;-)

Had my LTE upgrade done yesterday at the Marietta GA Service Center. Much snappier performance on the browser for me - 3G is marginal in my area. No new rattles and all my setting survived, as well.

Got it. Installing now.
