Portable Solar Trickle Charge for Camping

I didn't end up doing this! It was an interesting thought experiment but I didn't find a practical need for it, and I was looking at a minimum of $1-2k to get panels plus inverter plus buffer battery needed to make it all work. I'll check out the kickstarter! Thanks for the recommendation.

    EAP upgrade coming back

EAP for $4k is a fantastic deal, since to me the vast majority of FSD's value is currently in NoA. That is priced very competitively with Super/Ultracruise, offers better features with automated lane changes and navigation, and also has wider applicability.

    Odometer on Model 3

I agree that there should be a user accessible lifetime energy usage meter. The car actually does track this information and it's available if your get Scan My Tesla. I believe it tracks total AC charging, total DC fast charging, total energy usage, and energy usage while stationary. With that...

"Elon’s tweet does not match engineering reality per CJ." - CJ Moore, Tesla's Director of Autopilot Software

Sure, but that also doesn't mean I can't roll my eyes when we have the millionth thread on TMC about someone being "punished" for being incapable of keeping their hands on the wheel or complaining that autopilot doesn't work well on a windy mountain road. I'm all for personal responsibility...

"Elon’s tweet does not match engineering reality per CJ." - CJ Moore, Tesla's Director of Autopilot Software

Absolutely agree. I personally think human driver + active safety features will probably be safer than city streets beta + human monitoring because of the complacency factor, at least for a while. On the second point, I sort of agree, although in general I support the philosophy that the...

"Elon’s tweet does not match engineering reality per CJ." - CJ Moore, Tesla's Director of Autopilot Software

To be fair, miles per disengagement is a much different metric than miles per injury. For a L2 system it's fair to expect plenty of situations that it can't handle at all or to the skill level of a human driver. Hopefully an observant driver combined with a L2 system is safer than a human driver...

"Elon’s tweet does not match engineering reality per CJ." - CJ Moore, Tesla's Director of Autopilot Software

Absolutely. If it's released to the general public in the form of a download button or otherwise it'll clearly be L2 for the foreseeable future and possibly forever.

Model 3 LR for LONG daily commute?

Thanks for sharing. It sounds like you are using the drive time really well. The grass is always greener on the other side I suppose. I was flying almost every week for work, and I was initially thrilled to take some time off and work from home. However, a year into it, I've discovered that I...

Model 3 LR for LONG daily commute?

This is a bit off topic, but what do you do in the car for those long commutes? It seems like that would be a perfect opportunity to cruise through some audiobooks or podcasts!

Standard Range Plus Autopilot Removed Remotely [by Tesla]

Although if someone paid $10k for FSD, they bought it within the last year and therefore should have known that they weren't getting a L5 autonomous system! The best thing Tesla could do is to change the name to reflect the reality of what people are buying to avoid confusion (or the less...

    random beeps

This happened to me as well a few updates ago. It seems like the there should be some other visual indication that the purpose of the chime is a speed limit warning for it to actually be useful!

Gaps between underbody cover and rocker panels

I had the same issue shortly after delivery too that was fixed under warranty. I believe it was a plastic clip or fastener that wasn't properly seated and it ended up being an easy fix. Good luck!

Why Autopilot Safety Claims are BS

To be fair, most of these scenarios apply to the non-autopilot comparative data set too! Underreported and mis-reported accidents impact both sides of data for sure. Rather than the absolute number of accidents or the number of accidents per mile, the key question to me is: what is a baseline...

Why Autopilot Safety Claims are BS

But at that point, the crash isn't the "fault" of autopilot, so I think that's fair to exclude. Of course it skews the statistics when you are only supposed to use autopilot in already-safe driving conditions, but at least they aren't excluding accidents where the car is about to slam into a...

Why Autopilot Safety Claims are BS

I more or less agree with cherry picking data, but Tesla does count crashes that occur just after autopilot was disengaged in their stats. So if someone sees an imminent accident and disengages autopilot and then crashes, that will still count as an accident with autopilot engaged.
