They usually do cover gas, unless they changed their policy for the Model 3 but I haven't heard of any change. You just need to keep your receipts.

Be thankful your delays are before you took delivery. I took delivery in January and still don’t have my car. I am declaring it their car at this point.

Good call on refusing delivery, you probably would have had a long and painful repair process if you took delivery. The car likely went to the next in line.
